Ballsy of Scott to have a heavy training load in the first week of finals. I guess the extra fitness will pay dividends on grand final day.

It has worked for us in previous years so why change now. Chris is the coach, he has all the data, KPIs and fitness, tactical and gynecological reports in front of him, something us plebs simply do not see.

Let's trust in Scott, he knows what he is doing.

Taylor was ordinary. Motlop ran rings around him.

atkins justified nothing. Played as a mid and was terrible.

Taylor was matched on Dixon. Didn't you see the ball go to Dixons chest the whole night while Taylor just stood behind him?

Reminded me of when he stood behind Isaac Smith in the 2016 qf and let him mark that one too. After Enright basically gave it his all moments earlier

One key forward just doesn't work, time and time again in a big game we get nothing out of Rohan and the small brigade and leave ourselves short of options, stuff inside mids go out and get what we need.
If you go small, then you must have the smalls at the fall of the ball. ?instead they get sucked to the contest and arent able to crumb it well.

And Rohan must have run 1000kms last night getting to packs and flying for marks. Not a single one taken and no one there to crumb it.

TRying to win the car with every pack mark does not help us.

Go Catters

Same sh*t different year.
I note to Scott, Akins is no good seriously, why is he playing!!!!! Play another key forward!!!! Play you get players in the middle!!!! Don’t want to hear any crap need to change it up!!

Ok I'm probably going to get slaughtered by people here.

Only two/three blokes who shouldn't be upset are Henderson and Parfitt. Kolo was solid without being good or bad.

Down games from the big four of Hawk, Danger, Selwood and Ablett. They will bounce back so I'm not worried. Rohan and Stewart also.

What worries me most is the lack of speed in defence. Tuohy needs to play back, we're too big.

Which brings me to our 18-22 players, they're weak, they are mostly sh*t and it shows in big games. Jack Henry, Tom Atkins, Gryan Miers, Luke Dalhaus. They are just inconsistent and for the most part rubbish lately. Atkins, Miers and Dalhaus are providing nothing across that half forward line. Then Henry is a deer in headlights with probably the worst decision making I've ever seen at AFL level and inconsistent disposal. His disposal has improved but not the guy you want playing game plan footy. He constantly spoils his own player or gives hospital handballs. I suppose at least he is getting his hands on it unlike Atkins, Miers and Dalhaus. Slightly harsh on Miers due to his age but some seconds footy would be handy.

Not good enough to carry these guys anymore. They need to step up or ship out.
Kolo had 3 terrible turnovers and was playing on motlop who kicked tge first 2 goals of the match, ended up with 3 and set up two others. Motlop even took a contested mark against kolo.

Only chance is to bring in
Jordan clarke
Narkle
Not sure who else but plenty of omissions
Rohan/dalhaus/arkins/henry
Down at sleepy hollow they say things like "internally we really rate him". It's like an immunity idol, once you have it you don't have to prove it. The way some were singing the praises of Atkins as though he was the answer to our problems was interesting. He can tackle but hardly ever threatens the scoreboard. He has kicked 4 goals and 1 behind for the entire year! He only gets a game because Geelong has a lack of genuine forwards. We have got to stop reading our own press.

Ablett had an off night but Port had him under the pump and other players just were not releasing the ball to him in any space. Gary will hurt you with every clean disposal. I like Close but he is not in the same league as even an ageing GA. Happy to have Close come in for Atkins. He'd be a lot more creative and might be good riding shotgun for Ablett.
And PA's ability to neutralise GA was yet another example of Hinkley doing his homework and Scott being outcoached in a final with no counter-response. As someone else pointed out here, same shit, different year...

We got beaten in basics so badly in the third quarter. How frustrating to see us consistently second to the ball. Credit to Port much better than us in big moments. The last quarter after Stanley goal we lose a crucial clearance straightaway and bang they score. The set ups in the Centre bounces were baffling considering what’s was on the line.

If you said Hawk would have 6 shots at goal and take at least 5 marks inside 50 you would have thought we win. Missed chances got in his head.

A lot of players struggled when game was on the line in third. Port worked harder and looked and were able to get ball out in space. We blew this as much as they won it. We looked slow particularly in back half because the middle dropped off. I feel our biggest issue is in the middle of the ground.

In some ways last night mirrored the PF in 2019. Failed to capitalize on our ascendancy then opposition took their chances and made us pay.

Henderson was good but he came into the pack, went the spoil, took out himself, Dixon and Taylor, punched the ball to their goalsquare and Motlop ran on for a cheap goal.

We have dumb footballers.
He's also marked that ball all year yet goes the punch in the final

Parfitt was very good in the contest and by hand. His kicking is poor though. How on earth he managed to do a 10m snap to the behind post in the second quarter was beyond comprehension.
Yep 43% disposal efficiency. He gets the ball but lacks composure. He got the ball twice in scoring positions last night but made a complete hash of it both times.

Situation solved. Scott out. Who’s your pick for next coach? Are you sure they’ll do better? Happy to be missing finals as well? Most other clubs outside Hawthorn, Richmond and WC would have loved to be init every year like us. They are hard to win, but I’m not sure it is the coach that is holding us back. Perhaps we are achieving as well as we can at the minute, at least until the players work out that they have it within them to win one.
Not sure who would be a good choice to replace Scott or if they'll do better BUT Scott has had his chances (way more than deserved, arguably) and, based on finals (the only path to a flag obviously), has failed MISERABLY. Surely it's time to at least TRY another option after so many failures to perform given the fact that we are getting into a position to play finals regularly - and mostly from a top 4 placement. Scott is just not capable of getting this group (or any of the groups he's had from 2012 til now) to lift as needed for finals. All the Scott apologetics simply can't sweep away his finals record as coach which is totally SHIZEN!! And to add salt to the wound, he seems in total denial that he bears even the slightest hint of responsibility (as evidenced by his pushing back on this point in his presser). I'm just over it!

I get the feeling the optimistic want to pin it on Hawkins goal kicking and the first half misses. But let's be real here, the intensity went up in the 3rd and the old jitters came back. Very much like West Coast game early this year and Collingwood last finals series.

Geelong don't have another gear. Taylor is shot, Henry just screams panic, menengola could be the biggest front runner I've seen and Miers doesn't sniff a ball In a contested game. The ball movement is slow, the game is structured, it's never gonna win finals. I'm just numb to it, no emotion. The writing was on the wall after the tigers game.

This, so this

I think we play this style due to limitations with the lack of A Grade talent and lack of pace and elite foot skills on our list but the passing/switching game is massively susceptible in finals - this is proved every year.
We could win next week but I would be amazed if we could beat a good contested team playing well in the prelim.
Need to make elite footskills, good speed as well as filling positional gaps our draft priority — massive task and hard without a rebuild.

Outs: Henry Atkins Taylor*
Ins: Sav Clark Close

Henry doesnt offer much he cant really stop goals and isnt any better creating attack or rebound
Atkins just looked lost good depth player at best
Taylor Love harry but he is cooked, teams are starting to target Harry's man as Harry always plays from behind and legs looked clearly gone.

Sav offers team balance allows Blitz to play back and Danger to stay in the midfield
Clark give the lad the experience of a final
Close to put pressure on defenders Ports killed our forward line

* Could be argued that Dalhaus gets dropped

That was probably the worst game Kolodjashnij has played since being at Geelong. He totally crumbled under pressure, as did Jack Henry. Surprisingly even Stewart was flakey. On the other hand Henderson was really composed.

Kolo had some good moments. Took a lot of marks. Just can’t be trusted to hit a target.

Motlop becoming dangerous, and a constant focus on Dixon completely took Stewart out of the game.

Meanwhile, Hartlett did his job perfectly.
