Too early to review game in logical way...but have to say 2E you bloody beauty mate. Great passage of play and 2E getting off the ground to mark was a ripper finish...iced the game with his kick and I have been a fan ever since he came from Carlton (whilst he was there also) but he is a credit to himself and the Geelong Football Club a Star. :):thumbsu:

Yes *blushing*

Really wanted to acknowledge:
  • Jeff Sunderland of Radio 5MU - Murray Bridge, SA - one of the most passionate Geelong supporters, who died suddenly on 1 July;
  • Jeff's wife is a very dear friend + inconsolable;
  • My darling Dad - an ardent Melbourne supporter;
  • Both Jeff + Dad celebrated their birthdays on 17 July;
  • I really wanted Jeff to celebrate his first birthday in Heaven with a Geelong win;
  • Tomahawk's birthday today + kicked seven!
  • Three very fine men celebrated their birthdays this week;
  • K-rock guys were so gracious to acknowledge Jeff;
I couldn't really hear much that they said, bad line, so I was shouting lololololol

A sentimental call :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

Yep, a lot of people sticking the boots into Menz in the game day thread and in this one. He set up both of our first 2 goals when we couldn't get one and pulled off a Stevie J'esque kick to Hawkins in that last passage.

He had two frees not paid to him for which he's entitled to ask the question but not stop and plead his case.

In the 2009 gf, SJ went in with a massive cloud over him and duly had zero impact on 99% of the game. What he did do was kick the ball laterally to Scarlo for the toe poke to Gaz to Chappy for the premiership winning goal. At the time he executed that kick, there's not too many that would have attempted it let alone pulled it off.

Sometimes you just need that bit of genuis to either kickstart you or to get you over the line in a close one. It's his 2nd game back from being in a pretty bad way, I think he'll improve.

Henderson was pretty much non-existent for the first 3 quarters but did some things that we expect from him in the last.

Excellent post.

As well as being absolutely robbed of multiple goals by the umpires, a couple of insane Menzel kicks were critical in setting up that win. And at one point he saved our defence, too, ran all the way down there to provide an outlet.

But did he tackle anyone?

:p

Because once the game is lost they no longer have to play our coach's preferred game plan of guarding grass and kicking the ball to the opposition on our half forward line. Almost a carbon copy of how the game went last week in that regard.
Yeah hopeless coach, fancy sending Tuohey forward in the last minute of the game, what was he thinking!

That was fun. Screaming, fist pumping, high fiving, good time footy. In the 3rd term i was saying the Cat's have no class but the way Tomahawk played was all class. Some kind of magic spell took over and the cat's got up with some brilliant footy.

Stewart was good after a poor game in Adelaide. Blicavs did a great job in defence again. Danger was huge. Pleaseeee stay Kelly.

One of the best things about wins like this is going back through the gameday thread on the main board and seeing the anguish show through in the posts from Hawks supporters when we come back from a few goals down to win after the siren. :D

Everyone celebrate tonight, but in coming days we are going to need to discuss why our coach has a team capable of producing that last quarter playing like they did in the first three quarters.

The evidence is that the problem is not a lack of ability in the players.
Yeah, you guys can discuss that on the "we hate Chris Scott" thread, that is what it is for. The rest of us will be looking at next week's game and who is available and other important issues.

Def a confidence player and what confidence he'll take from this performance!

So fulfilling to see Hawkins' improvement + delighted with his 2018 season, so far. Looks like he's relishing his role, which takes him up + around the ground. Love seeing him succeed.

Best lat quarter Geelong has played in living memory. Best game Hawkins has played. This win could set Geelong up......then again we may struggle next week v Brisbane
