This is not quite the right thread but rather than start another one. Is anyone able to explain the rule about One player with head over ball and opposition player runs into him, usually falling over as a result. Last Sunday we had a free kicked paid against us being the one with the head over the ball yet tonight Adelaide player with head over the ball gets free kick after Richmond player runs into him. Looks exactly the same but different outcome.
It’s open to the ump’s interpretation, like most of our rules and this rule seems particularly hard to get consistency from. If the ump thinks your action’s contributed to the head high incident, they might not pay the free. Don’t know the incidents you are talking about but this seems likely explanation. I noticed Fogarty definitely ducked into a pack last night and it was play on.

Two different rules collide into a giant gray area
Head high contact below the knees, they generally(not always) pay it towards the player who is hit below the knees if the other player doesn't keep there feet.

Thanks for that but it is really to my mind badly umpired. Last night the Adelaide player was still with head over the ball trying to collect or get it out. Same as with Esava in our game, first to the ball attempting to move it on and a player runs over him. Suddenly Esava is at fault.

It's split second stuff where you have to make a decision. The melbourne players knee almost looked hyper-extended. It's one of those things that is beyond a 'free kick' simply because either or both players could be injured badly.

Not just channel seven though, Foxtel do a pretty good job as well, "Bounce" would have to be one of the most cringe worthy shows on air.

Definitely! With Chief, denigrating others for being fat, when he's such a SuperModel :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thanks for those photos. I noted that in the team warm up that Gary spent the entire time with Tim Kelly-handballing, kicking, that low pick up they do.
You're most welcome.

Interesting to read that ATSAM. Apart from it being a thrill to practise with Ablett, this could mean that Ablett rates Kelly. Also it's terrific for Kelly's development. Thanks for posting that ATSAM, as I only watch on TV, I miss that sort of thing, so it's great to read. Really like informative posts about happenings outside the game.

He is wondering if that Wookie behind him is going to attack. Seriously get a haircut!

Guys! Let it go about Cuthrie's hair!

Cuthrie is the Samson of the team!

The other one of note was that Menzel was on the ground alone and well before the team warm up. Practicing banana kicks and ones from the pocket for at least 15 mins. Just a pity he didn't practice from straight in front-nailed the hard ones later

Menzel's always out on his own practicing long before the game starts.

Headphones in, parked in a pocket.

It's awesome to see the way he gets ready.

Like golf, you practice the 10m putt but not the 1m ones (that count).
