what has missing some mids got to do with blicavs being smashed in the ruck? Absolutely nothing. It was a double hit that day bevause darling also monstered kolo in that last qtr. probably doesnt happen if blicavs is at full back on darling. Just like in last years prelim when lynch smashed us because we were playing our full back on the wing where he was being very ineffective.

its one thing to lose because of not being good enough or because of injuries. Its a completely other thing because the coach is wrong about a really dumb move he initiated and refuses to learn out of stubborness. Bluvavs did not play full back in any of his 3 finals last year out of pure coaching stubborness. It cost us a grand final. And this happens year after year after year. And you wonder why fans are upset with the coach.

Can't help but think Guthrie playing on and getting caught was a major turning point in the game. Little things like that and others in the last 5 mins or so cost us the win.
West coast was already in front by then. That wasnt what turned It. It was when we decided to start playing chip kick around the half back line in the third qtr when we were up by over 20 points rather then going fast down the line like we had in the first half.

the eagles had been a man down all game and we had a 20 point lead. We should never lose from that position when we have an extra player advantage. But we slowed the game down making it easier for the eagles to conserve energy and reduce our advantage.

The ump clearly called play on in the replay I watched but by that time Duggan was already into the tackle, he either had great anticipation or there's a lag between video and audio.Question on notice for Daz that might be in his field.
There is no audio delay, the sound of the tackle is in sync.

100% a fifty. You cannot cross the mark until play on is called.

Myths grow incredibly fast on this board.

Another fun fact, Rohan is actually averaging less of everything this season than over his career (and obviously those numbers are already pretty bad) - that's less disposals, less marks, less goals, and less tackles. This tackling machine that opposition teams are scared of is laying a whopping 2.1 tackles per game.

Terrifying that is not.

You should adjust his averages to account for 80% game length before you make stupid comments like this.

Anyone that loves their footy couldn't possibly want the season reduced on a permanent basis.
I see it differently. You enjoy the games more cause they're more important.
I don't really wanna sit through us playing Freo twice.
& I hate the bye rounds too.
Maybe if they stuck an extra final in or something, and a draft pick final for the crap teams it'd be allright.

We were chipping it around a bit in the first half too until something opened up further down the line which is when we moved it on quicker. The Eagles cut off those options further up the field and also manned up a lot quicker so we couldn't pass the ball with as much accuracy as we had earlier in the game.

Its about evenness in the draw. The afl is one of the few professional leagues in the world that has biased fixturing. Can easily be fixed with a 22 season though by adopting either 17-5 or switching to group stages.
Could easily do it on a rolling even-up basis over 2 or 3 seasons as they used to do with the old 12-team 18-round draw where every team had 9 home and 9 away games each season..

But it's not going to happen while all club admins are wedded to the "maximum cake" fixture concept.

Not impressed with Atkins or Dalhaus. Close looks a better option. Cockatoo would be a livewire down forward if he could string some games together. Perhaps even James Parsons. Rohan may not get a lot of the ball but he crashes the pack and scares the opposition with his speed. Plus he kicks straight.
I agree that Close/Cockatoo is potentially an upgrade on Atkins/Dalhaus. I still believe Dalhaus's best is Best 22 but he's injured now and was below his best before that. My point remains that without Ablett, Selwood and Stanley we were severely hamstrung yet nearly pinched it.
Ablett's delivery into F50 is second to none and he demands a lock down defender. Selwood is....well...Selwood and needs no justification. He was having an outstanding season prior to injury and is our Captain. Stanly is an enigma but at least he is an actual ruckman. Hell...I'd have been happier with just Fort in the ruck over Sav and Blicavs. Notwithstanding that having Blicavs unavailable down back robbed us of an AA KPD option against a team with multiple quality KPFs.
I remain optimistic that we are somewhat as good a chance as any in this "Franken-Season" should the injury Gods look favourably upon us.
The real optimist in me still hopes Cockatoo comes in and lives up to his promise, completely energising the side...

we kind of already have such a system with the top 6 given a tougher draw the next season compared to the bottom 6. But thats not even though for the sake of flags. Premierships are determined each year not on a 2-3 year cycle. if a team has a really easy draw one year that helps them get a flag its not made up by a tough draw in the next 2 seasons. teams change each year. We want to know who the best team is each year. 17-5 does that along with having so many other advantages that makes the season more interesting. Fairer and more exciting. Its a win win. Mindless that we havnt adopted it.

SA Clubs don't need to hub again because their government allows for clubs to FIFO between SA and QLD. Both teams are scheduled to play games in QLD over the next four weeks.

WA is making it difficult (rightly or wrongly) hence why finals/GF won't be in WA, and WA clubs will have to hub even though their home state conditions could allow for a FIFO situation like SA.

Does that also mean a SA club can FIFO for away games? Or if they leave they need to quarantine for two weeks?

My understanding was if they flew out for an away game they needed to quarantine coming back. Could be wrong or old rules. These covid rules change wevery 2nd day in some respect.

Not nearly to the same degree. And if they are manning up quicker that suggests you move the ball quicker and down the line to contests not slower and sidways. The whole point of holding it up and kicking it sideways is either to time waste or encourage manning up to make it more even up the ground at the contest.

Parfitt is our clear leader in pressure acts and tackles, close to double the output of his more high profile and better paid mates. His distribution is terrific when he is playing a more outside role, but I've always understood recent and Scott's constant references to his "elite balance of inside and outside" as meaning "he covers for the show ponies". Or pony. So his recent poor disposal rate (not much over 50%) needs to be read in the light of where he's positioned, and what he's being asked to do. Without him, our midfield turns into a sieve.

I'd like to see more improvement from him but I do agree with that.

Nic nat and grundy had the same hit outs each. thats not what happened last night.

If Rickman were judged solely on hit outs Blake would be the best ever. They aren't.

Not overly fussed if we miss out. We’d just be making up the numbers again. Nice to have a single digit draft pick.

This year with no u18 footy that isn't as useful as you think.

What did he say? I haven’t caught up.
Sorry, I missed this.
I wrote it earlier.

He said they'd planned all week to stop Geelong controlling the ball.
And it wasn't working.

So they dropped the plan at 1/2 time and went with a man on man plan.
And if that worked they'd just let everything else evolve from there.

I must admit I liked that their planning came to nothing. But I also respect that wc threw everything out of the cot and tried basic footy.

Sure it is. Geelong have to play every interstate side interstate. Think that's fair?

The only truly fair system is every team twice. Which will never happen. 22 games is better - much better - than 17. Quality rises the more games are played. The better, stronger, and more durable sides win out in the end.

What i also like about a model like this is it would promote alot of younger kids to get a go and some exposure compared to every club just playing the same best 22 week in week out. Plus who doesnt want to see more footy in general?
