ok before i get people digging in the "its just one loss" claws, i'm not saying that harley isnt a great captain, i just didnt see much leadership out there from anyone except for gazza, yet ive never heard anyone rate him as a future captain. why is this? who is better placed?

I think harley's record is pretty good. 1 year as captain = 1 flag.

I've been pretty critical of last nites performance but this and the Bartel BOG threads aren't really helpful and at best reactionary.

yeah, i dont think i was that harsh, but who is our second in command?
ling as captain? cause when the pressure has been on us it hasnt been harley getting us over the line.

I think that's not neccesarily true. How do you know what goes on behind the scenes? Sure Harley may not be kicking the goals, bt perhaps his confidence and inspiration get the others fired up?

Forget who you'd like it to be. It will be this bloke:

Gaz and Selwood both have claims following that.

toby thurstans?

nah seriously gary ablett is an absolute standout. he inspires the team with his play and handles the media pretty well these days. think its best to have a midfielder as captain also.

Byrnes or Mackie....

...oh..wait...you asked Geelong's next captain! Ahhh...

I think after this years performances it would have to be Gaz. Maybe later Selwood.

Still, for now, Harley is definitely the guy.

Just one point: how many people guessed Harley would be our next captain last time around? What I'm saying is that the players will pick someone they respect, and it could well be someone who isn't a bit out of left field from where we sit.

One thing I'd be pretty confident of - Selwood will be there one day.

Definatley Selwood in the coming years, no question, but I would hate for Gazza to go through his career and not captain his side. Shows possibly the most leadership out on the ground already. Chapman and Ling also

Could Chappy be to honest to be a captain though??? I mena that more from a tact point of view. That would be the only Issue I reckon as he is a very good player.

G Ablett would be the standout though, on Friday night when things were at their worst, he was the one that stodd out. Has everything, is tough at the ball, works hard and presents all the time, has class, good with media and most of all, a bit like Judd does, just inspires the team with things he does.

Ling. Handles the media much better than Chapman and Ablett who should not have the extra pressure of being captain. The best player(s) dont have to be captains as we've already established with Harley. Ling the Selwood.

id like to see lingy as captain too. but id definitly wanna see gazza as the vice. everyone talks selwood up as a certainty, but how much do we know about the kid atm?

yeah, we know he is bloody good but that is pretty much it, though he is popping up in the media already. eg.chip ads.
anyway what im saying is we dont need to pile all our future plans on this kid.
