this is incredibly naïve mate. Hird was up to his neck in 'the financials' aka trying to make money off aod964 using the players as test subjects. this is a huge issue from a duty of care and ethics standpoint, not to mention actually quite illegal to conduct unlicenced, unregulated medical testing, especially if the players didn't know*

on top of that Hird was one who used charters' services to return from a career ending injury, along with luke darcy and scott west (edit simon garlic, nathan brown and heaps more). charter, who has recently been arrested again was also woewodin's 'nutritional advisor' in the year he won the brownlow, his only good year. Hird wrote him a reference when he was arrested on commercial drug trafficking charges - before the Essendon thing.

*still not sure about that myself

Not too many players come back from navicular foot fractures - ask Matthew Egan.

Wasn't Jimmy gets shots of Melatonin (for improved or actual pecker performance?) at the same time from the same jabbers?
Jimmy gets shots and Gil don't care......:musicalnote::musicalnote:

I can see the pens hitting paper now:

Carlton has form missing talent already sitting on their list. Jacob Townsend spent several years on Carlton's VFL list and was their leading goal-kicker in the VFL; Daniel Gowers was on Carlton's list for two years before being delisted, only to become a premiership player. Mitch Robinson and Jeffrey Garlett were both traded without a care without seemingly a thought.

It must surely hurt to have a former champion of the club looting a player developed from beneath your nose. Questions need to be asked of Carlton's list management division, if a player of Caminiti's caliber could slip through their fingers.

North Melbourne will overtake St Kilda as the AFL’s most heavily funded Victorian club this year in the AFL’s latest distribution of variable funding to the 18 clubs.

The AFL view the Blues as a club that will not need additional support for much longer given their vast support and on-field improvement.

GWS and GC are an awful drain.

I reckon I could do more with 50 mil to promote the game than flush it down a couple of Sydney and Queensland toilets.

Non-disclosure agreements. That's really terrible what happened but sign here and never mention it again. It's how entities make sure poor behaviour continues.

With a lot of chat this week in regards to including the early VFA years premierships in VFL/AFL history, it got me wondering.

Was there ever a push to have promotion/relegation between the VFL and VFA clubs? It’s weird to me that all the local footy
leagues, cricket leagues have promotion/relegation but VFL didn’t.

I doubt it because of the animosity that existed between the two bodies. That animosity was still there in the 1960s and 70s. The subject would probably have been raised by journalists from time to time. But by the 70s the money difference between the VFA and VFL was starting to grow and a relegated VFL team would have lost supporters, income, prestige and players.
