The F.A. Cup is a fair way down on the list of trophies that clubs want to win these days. European Championship, UEFA cup and league title all rate higher these days. The AFL understand that the game will be sold out regardless of who does the warm up. What they are trying to do is hook some to watch that wouldn't normally watch, and provide more value to those that have paid their hard earned to be there.I have no idea why the AFL keeps insisting on trying to bring overseas artists and get so desperate to get anyone. It devalues the day as a whole.
I would prefer to liken Grand Final day to the FA Cup. There is no fancy entertainment just the basic stuff. The day is about the theatre of the game and build up itself.
Hope one day the AFL will realise we don't need this Super Bowl/NRL crap, the GF can sell itself.
Isn't our hovercraft on the bottom of the yarra?I for one would like to see Angry Anderson in theBatmobileCarlton Hovercraft
What about Bazza McKenzie to sing "One-Eyed Trouser Snake"?Bring back Barry Crocker to sing “The impossible dream” I say.
Still my favourite thing in footy is a raking left foot pass to to moving target. Better than speckies, better than snap goals.Daniel Rich Announces His Retirement
Daniel Rich calls time on his incredible playing careerwww.lions.com.au
Daniel Rich announces his retirement. A brilliant footballer and a truly good human who has represented his club superbly in the time I've been in Brisbane
I have cranked that vid every day since we beat the Suns and actually qualified for the finals - I think it is my favourite thing on the entire internet. Such a rich tapestry of Australian sporting history and culture, and surreal production questions "How long will the Batmobile need to get from one wing to the other at Waverley?" "I dunno, Waltzing Matilda on the pan-pipes ought to cover it...". But it didn't! Still the highest-performance vehicle on the field though, in amongst all the Capris...I for one would like to see Angry Anderson in theBatmobileCarlton Hovercraft
Yep, I’m up for another dose of Tones & I, G-Flip? & Baker Boy.Why don’t they do local talent…
Kiss ffs
Kiss are doing 3 songs pre game. The Aussie stuff is at half time but the line up hasn't been announced yet apparently.Yep, I’m up for another dose of Tones & I, G-Flip? & Baker Boy.
Worth the price of admission alone.
The loaf, what a performance, any time You want a chuckle read the YouTube comments. HahahahaMeatloaf was iconic too.
Has disaster written all over it !
Heard that. When will North officially have the AA side? At least when Geelong had 8 in the AA team it was a mix of great trading, drafting, recruiting and lucking out with F/Ss.I just read an article suggesting Sydney's offer to Ben McKay would be enough to trigger band 1 comp and they'll get pick 3. That's ****ing mental.
Seems like he is getting $800K for 5 years which is about the same as Weiters. On that basis pick 3 seems about the right compensation. Losing him will mean they have no AFL standard key defenders next year. Need to go hard at the best mature defenders in the 2nd tier leagues.I just read an article suggesting Sydney's offer to Ben McKay would be enough to trigger band 1 comp and they'll get pick 3. Top compo pick ‘likely scenario’ for Roos; Freo asking price for departing Docker: Trade Whispers

Was always on the cards.
The AFL did it to Melbourne years ago with band 1 compo for Frawley..
At the end of the year, the AFL need to change the band 1 pick formula so it doesn't come within the first top 10 picks of the draft
Exactly. My confusion is that losing Ben McKay nets you pick 3. What’s he worth in a straight up trade? 2nd rounder?I seriously have never seen it with Ben Mckay. Plenty of North supporters feel similarly and are rapt to see what they can get for him.
It would be easy to tie Band 1 to performance as well as contract. Like you only get band 1 if the contract terms meet certain thresholds AND the player has been AA. And then make band 1 top 5 or something.Top compo pick ‘likely scenario’ for Roos; Freo asking price for departing Docker: Trade Whispers

$800k for 5 years is nuts. As much as Weiters. Losing McKay will make North poor till they can get a decent replacement. It would be easy to tie Band 1 to performance as well as contract. I’m not anti the system overall, and I think ladder position should matter (ie it should favour weaker teams who lose players). But pick 3 for Ben McKay feels nuts
Get rid of bands altogether. Determine a points value based on age; contract length; contract amount. Have a second loading formula based on ladder position of the club losing the player. Apply that to get a final point value. Provide the club with a pick based on the points value.
Agree. I've wondered why AFL just doesn't 'compensate' in allowing club losing a player to have more freedom in salary cap to go for FA at a time suitable to them. Say NM offered B.Mackay $700,000 p.a., why can't they defer some salary cap for up to say 2 years (so pay around say 90% of salary cap next year and year after if they choose), effectively 'bank that', and then go for a FA next year or the year after (and being able to pay above salary cap then). They should just get rid of compensation completely.
2 clubs get something and 16 clubs get punished. It's a terrible system.
The 95% cap floor is a terrible rule.Agree.
