He’s a very black and white individual- at work he’s just incapable of a “water cooler/cafe bar conversation ”, it’s always work related.

I was cringing so hard reading that. These are adults. I would have reacted the same way as Tuohy.

Then to consider that offering an explanation as to what your thought process was, as challenging the coach ... that's some ego. Brings back the worst memories of my childhood. Children should be seen, not heard and explaining yourself is considered 'talking back'.

Bugger that. This is one side of the story obviously, but it has altered my thinking and doesn't make me feel sorry for Bolts getting the boot anymore.

Yeah, that excerpt from Zach is horrifying and it highlights the difference between someone who can be an effective assistant coach vs the senior coach.

The senior coach needs to be able to relate to a diverse array of people (players and coaches) to get the best out of them.

An assistant can afford to have a more limited personality that resonates with a subset of players. You can be a super intense footy nut, a technician or just the kind of laid back, fun person who can take the edge off the situation. The players who need what you offer will gravitate towards you and get a lot out of the relationship. Those who don’t can largely ignore you with no consequences.

A senior coach can’t be so polarising. They need to be whoever the people in front of them need them to be. They need the jokes to calm down the stress heads, the data and strategy for the analysts, the wisdom for the philosophers and the bold assertiveness to help people walk taller.

We were hardly an attractive place to coach at in 2016 and Bolton was clearly not all bad, but he was limited and the people who appointed him didn’t understand the key attributes of a successful modern senior coach.

Disgrace, I liked Bolts more than the average bluebagger because all I saw was in the media but reading this article he was clearly jekyl and hyde.

Just unprofessional nitpicking

Yeah there's a reason the pies footy department fell into an absolute mess after our new man left and bolts was one of the most powerful guys left...

Sounds like Neil Craig was the moderating influence, no wonder it all went to shit when we didn't replace him
