Just a lack of planning and foresight, hard to say but now it will cost if they want him.

I think they didn't participate on principle, neither Wells or Scott liked the idea of the mid season draft.

If everyone else is doing it then you need to take advantage of it too.

well it might be..id not expect Wells to spend more than he thinks he is worth. Every year there are players expected to be late and jump up... and also players who are expected to be picked..do not get picked..

We traded a pick outside the top 40 for Kreuger yeah? I don't think Riccardi has the athletic ability of Kreuger.

If he was a top 40 pick someone else would have taken him in the mid season draft.

I think it was pick 42 we traded to Carlton to gain early access to him

I saw him play VFL against us and 1 or 2 other games. He is key forward height but I don't think he plays like that. He is like a heavy set third tall and I'd question him having the athletic ability to transition to AFL.

Cameron is a RFA at the end of 2020. Speculation will be at fever pitch if he hasn’t re-signed halfway through next season.

If we lose TK I think we’ll be in a position to make a massive offer. S Selwood, Smith and Henderson gone or taking massive paycuts (estimated $1.2m between them), Taylor likely gone, Ablett potentially gone, $800+ allocated for TK that may not be used.

Its yet to be determined if the academies develop and find more talent or just syphon it... if the latter we can forget rebuilding thru the draft for a while..

Makes you wonder, with all that spare cash, we may as well try and bring in 1 or 2 outside depth players like L Taylor, or one of those mid-sized hard at it Richmond players - Lambert, Graham, Ross, Bolton, Stack, etc... Take your pick, 1 will do, I'm sure they are not on big $.
Its not like 1 or 2 of those types will cost us much on salary cap, but it all depends on the trade.

Btw, I think Castagna will be an excellent small forward. He would be an awesome type to pair with Gryan Miers for the next 10 years.

He would have slotted in and taken Duncan’s role no worries.

It also really vindicates that there are ALOT of good state league players who are good enough.

I can’t see the love for drafting 18 year olds myself. The top 10 are generally good and will potentially becoming good. The rest are hit and miss.

The proven capability of state league players, their maturity and probably their desire can trump a lot of draft combine stats.

Liam Ryan was another who impressed me.
