Well this is music to my ears (and a lot of others who have said the same thing re. keeping our first/not giving up too much to move up any further):

"GEELONG list guru Stephen Wells says not being part of the first round of this year’s AFL National Draft will give the Cats “a bit of an advantage” when it comes to their turn in the second round."

Has basically said we're going to sit back and see what happens, and then start our draft on Thursday night. All but conceding we won't be trading into the first round/trading up any further - which is 100% the right move this year.

Tbh those are very generic comments re the process..to me it doesnt rule out trading into the top 20 at all.

The below is heavily rumour-based, sorry Pure_Ownage I've left Tom Brown out, just haven't heard any strong rumours about him.

1. North Melbourne - Jason Horne-Francis
2. Western Bulldogs - Sam Darcy
3. GWS - Finn Callaghan (apparently won't bid on Daicos)
4. Collingwood - Nick Daicos
5. Gold Coast - Mac Andrew (has been the strong rumour forever)
6. Adelaide - Josh Rachele (has been the strong rumour forever)
7. Hawthorn - Matthew Johnson (Sam Mitchell very keen)
8. Fremantle - Josh Ward (Longmuir says they'll take best available, not just local talent)
9. Richmond - Ben Hobbs (linked in his interview with Cal Twomey)
10. Fremantle - Jye Amiss (linked for a while now)
11. St Kilda - Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (rumoured as of this morning)
12. West Coast - Campbell Chesser (rumoured as of this morning)
13. Essendon - Neil Erasmus (he and Gibcus look to be the sliders from the top 10)
14. Port Adelaide - Josh Gibcus (as above)
15. Brisbane - Josh Sinn (traded from GWS)
16. Brisbane - Darcy Wilmot
17. Richmond - Josh Goater
18. Sydney - Jacob van Rooyen (rumoured to take a KPD)
19. Melbourne - Tyler Sonsie
20. GWS - Blake Howes (traded from Brisbane - allegedly want to pair Howes with Callaghan)
21. Adelaide - Arlo Draper (traded from Fremantle - expect Crows to make a big offer to take Draper)
22. North Melbourne - Leek Alleer (rumoured to take a KPD)
23. Hawthorn - Mitch Knevitt
24. Geelong - Angus Sheldrick (rumoured that we're very keen)
25. Geelong - Connor MacDonald (traded from Bulldogs - rumoured that us and Carlton are both very keen)

Maybe

Geel In- #23 #47 out #30 #34 + F3rd Carl
WB In - #34, #42 & Carl F3 (#42) out #23
Nth In - #30 out #42, #47

Not sure what North get out of it. 42&47 are basically back to back after bids. Lose a 3rd rounder to move up 9 live picks I guess.

On the night we’d have roughly 25,26,36,43 and 46. If we just stayed and let another team do the deal we’d have had 25, 34, 36, 38 and about 45 and pick 42ish next year of course.

I'd want a better ball user with a top 25 pick especially if we've just picked Sheldrick but can see why they like MacDonald, can win his own ball and applys good defensive pressure at the stoppage.

Mmm... I thought I had it figured out, but the Dogs don't have enough points again with my scenario.

This is literally all I'm watching tonight for, as I really can't wrap my brain around how they're going to do this/how it's going to be beneficial for all clubs. Gonna be fascinating

Ive literally deleted my post in the prediction comp, as I cannot figure out how this is all gonna work, and who the hell we're gonna pick. Too many machinations and too many different outcomes.

No-one ever knows what Wellsy wants...must be hell for his wife when they're deciding on what to have for dinner/pick a movie :tearsofjoy:

I'd be pretty happy with that. Would be happy with Taylor or Sheldrick, I'm confident both will play some decent footy. More confident in Taylors ball use but Sheldricks competitiveness could fill the hole of Selwood in years to come.

I wonder why they'd prefer him over Taylor (if they in fact do), given they seem pretty similar players but Taylor the much better kick.

Macdonald has a lot more speed, so perhaps that's what they're prioritizing?

Cal T

“A three-club picks deal is in the works involving the Dogs, Cats and Kangaroos. Upshot is Cats would get 23, Dogs get more points/futures, Roos improve draft hand and get a 30s pick
I hope this means it's just the 30s picks we're giving up. With the retirements we likely have coming next year, having as many decent picks as possible is ideal. Plus, it always gives us the chance to bundle them for anyone that needs points.

I meant gun mids still in our team.
Drafted in the last 5 years..

Would of been good if Telly had of stayed..

Yeah, but if you apply the fact that he's gone, then you have to apply the fact that JC is here because of the picks we got.

I'd say that it's best not to move the bar. Who did Wells draft in each yaer? Are they currently a hit or a miss? Therefore Kelly should be counted.

The top 6 i agree are set unless adelaide trade down (which i doubt they will) from there it gets tactical..fremantle might take amiss at 7 if they think richmond will take him at 8. Then richmond could go hobbs or go tall eg gibcus. If i had to guess i think freo take amiss and erasmus (assuming johnson is gone) and rich will take hobbs but these picks shape the draft.

From there its interesting i dont think port will take a tall their recruiter yesterday talked a lot about sinn and NWM i think it will be one of them or draper and they want a runner. I think if gibcus is still on the board at ports pick rich or syd will try and trade for that pick to get him
I think gws will just take howes at 15 if they trade back sydney might bid on fahey and muck the plan up.

12 is early for chesser so eagles might trade back (again someone might trade up for gibcus) and i still think ess probably take goater (or ward if he gets all the way to their pick thanks to go home factor) so the teens picks are wide open. I agree about adel going for the freo pick and draper.

That scenario leaves some really good players on the board for our picks personally im not sure we'd take both sheldrick and mcdonald as both are quite similar. I think sheldrick and knevitt/sonsie/brown if they get through otherwise sheldrick and taylor imo albeit that there will be a few other good mids around that pick. I think we try and take a kpd and or conway at 34/50 if they are still on the board.

If he cant run into the 6.0's then forget it. Just will not get picked.

This isn't accurate to be fair. I had a recent discussion with recruiters on this very thing regarding an SA based player for next year. It's all relative. There is obviously a time for 2k that becomes quite concerning but it really depends on where the kid is going to play on the field. How fit they are and where they can get to. I would be astounded if Danger ran below 7mins for 2ks heading into his draft year.

I assume the deal is we give up 32 and 34 and get 23 north for eg get 34 and wbd get 42 and 47 off north plus 32 off us with later picks being swapped between the sides. Or north is only giving up say 42 and a future 3rd (instead of 47) for the 30s pick or something like that. Id say the dogs want a future pick to trade back in this year but that will come from north not us. If we get a really good slider at 23 it will be well worth it.

It also might be an out and back in deal ie wbd trade 23 out with us for 2 picks then they trade one of those picks (especially if its a future) back in with north post bid etc.

Sounds like NWM won't get to Port's pick. St Kilda heavily linked, and this from Port's recruiting boss:

I’m already melting for the fact I think we will pass on Taylor for a reach or for go for someone like knevitt…

Order of who i think would be best for 22/23 (assuming no major drastic slides):

1. Taylor
2. Draper
3. Brown
4. Sonsie
5. Sheldrick
6. Butler
7. Alleer
8. Macdonald
9. Chesser
10. JVR

Would be happy with a combination of the above.

Would melt if we spent 22/23 on the following:

- knevitt
- Conway
- bazzo
- hough
- roberts
- soligo

Tiger's are trading their first pick (15) out of this year's draft for future pick/s. Source.

Sounds more like they're putting it up for grabs, but only at the right price from a club in the teens. Can't see it happening as there's such little talent differential between 15 and 20.

It's very hard to agree with the pick swap when you don't who they have in mind: if it's in order to secure Knevitt and Conway then forget it.

If it allows us to pick up a classy mid/utility - Macca, Taylor, Chesser, Howes, Owen - and a good defender such as
