I personally disagree. The picks in the 10-30 range seem very even, our 32 and 34 will be 34 and 36 after bids. Here's the top 30 in a rough order:

They're all clearly better than the next group, which is where it gets really speculative:

This. Three in that top group will be a healthy outcome.

Angus Sheldrick, Leek Alleer and Connor MacDonald seem to be the stronger rumours. We've been linked to Knevitt and Conway too but that seems to be mainly because they're Geelong Falcons.

Edit: as I typed this, Twomey said on the AFL.com.au stream that we're keen on Sheldrick in the 20s.

If I'm to have a guess our first (realistic) preference for 22/23 is Brown/Sheldrick but if Brown's taken, then Sheldrick/MacDonald.

It had to be a Western Australian or a South Australian if not a Falcon. Watch us take Alleer with the other early pick to cover both bases.

Brady Rawlings (Norf) taking about sliding back 5 spots or so from 20 if they can get a Future 2nd or extra late 2nd this year. They know the Hawks and Cats are going to bomb mids and they want a small fwd.

Steep!

It makes sense if they want a non mid (ie motlop judson clark etc) as they can probably get those later in R2 whereas for the genuine ball winning mids that we want some will go in the 20s.

Here's a crazy idea - swap our F1 next year for Richmond's pick 15 now ! They probably wont take it, but if the right player was there for us this year, we could then go 15, 22, 23, 30, 40ish - go heavy on mids with one KP gun and that's a real re-boot for ya.

No no no-next year might be hawkins last (or stanleys) and the top end of next years draft is stacked with rucks and key forwards. Id hold that pick at all costs.

On the other hand if they will take 22 and later picks for 15 then yes absolutely do it for the right player.

This makes the most sense to me, for why we traded up. Richmond and WC would definitely be keen, so we needed to get ahead of their 4 picks before our 30's picks.

Reckon they're looking at Connor Macdonald (Hawks and Carlton interested), Tom Brown (Sydney and Melbourne interested), Angus Sheldrick (Richmond and WC interested) and Leek Aleer (North interested) at 22 and 23. Haven't heard a thing about Zac Taylor which is disappointing, but Macdonald and Sheldrick or Brown and Sheldrick would be my next best outcome.

I tend to think that too (re brown first preference). I also think knevitt mcdonald and sheldrick will be high on our board. Where we rank conway and long is the unknown for me and ditto the key defenders on offer.

Wells has already pretty much ruled this out - which is a good thing. We want to be heavily involved in next year's draft, as we have two local prospects who will likely be first rounders. Not to mention the other quality talls on offer. Definitely not the draft to trade out of.

If we wanted to replace Hawkins or Stanley we should've drafted their replacement 4-5 years ago, not next year. Hawkins' replacement is JC/Esava, Stanley's is Ceglar/Neale/Tsap.

Where is the constant Brown talk on this board coming from? We don’t really need his type.

Very strong links to the club via his dad and sister, just lost a speedy half back/winger and Tuohy will retire soon too - it does make sense as we need at least one in this draft. Whether or not that's Brown, is another story

Seems like it's probably:

Dogs
Out: 23
In: 32, 42, Roos' F3

Cats
Out: 30, 32
In: 23

Roos
Out: 42, 47, F3 (likely to be around 37)
In: 30

This gives the Dogs a 298 points surplus plus a future pick. Roos get their pick in the 30s. We move up the order to 23.
I would be wanting more back? I'd rather keep our 2 picks than give up a few extra spots? Wouldn't most agree?

I still question trading 2 second round picks to get one admittedly higher second round picks given:

- Bucky says this is the trickiest draft ever

- everyone seems to agree its fairly even after the first 15

- Wells is very good at finding good players later in the draft.

23, 30, 32, 34 is a strong hand given the long list of players we've collectively identified as being viable picks.

The extra pick is 'insurance' against blowing a pick.

this one is a no for me.

next year is being tipped early as a quality first round of key position players across the ground. With hawkins retiring and jeremy cameron towards the twilight of his career, i think we would be nuts to trade out of the first round next year.

only explanation is they are confident of someone they like with those two b2b picks and are not overly confident of finding who they like with their 30's picks.

not much rationality comes into my head beyond that.

You have the roos giving out 47 but it isn't coming in anywhere. If we were getting 47 in then that makes the trade make a lot more sense. It could also be the dogs get 47 and we get the F3.

If that was the case we would have one pick go about 10 up and the other go about 10 down which is a reasonable outcome. I don't hate the idea of 32 and 34 for 23 given that 91 will come all the way to the 50's. Given our rumoured interest in Bergman we could pick him up here.

Sorry yes, we should be getting the 47. I'll update the post.
