It won’t happen but Cats should target Josh Dunkley. He nearly left last year and he should now, they don’t use him anywhere near the centre square and that’s where he should be. Tough ball magnet, not a flash kick but he ain’t alone.
What Melbourne are doing is winning the flag which means Geelong isn’t. Do you think we can with our current list?
We are getting no where near either of those two midfields next year. Time to draft some mids and think about 2025.

It doesnt really. The only question we should be asking ourselves is whether we are likely to achieve the best possible results (ladder wise, premierships but also off field and cmmercial) for our club by pushing on the same list management plan we have now or by a full aggressive rebuild..and do whichever is likely to give us the best outcome..what melbourne does has no bearing on it.
One we beat this year and the other we were smashing for 3 quarters. Not only can we get near them but we already have. We need a crapload of new coaches and a gameplan adjustment though.
How many players did Melbourne bring in,?
Brown, Langdon, May? 3 or 4 ?
Goes to show is to build a team is the way to go
You mean a team chockers full of first round draft picks, cause they tanked for so long?Melbourne has shown that their list management, gameplan, strategies etc have been far better than ours.
It's up to CS & Co to either concede that, or ignore the evidence.

We are so far from a flag. Last 2 years were our last chance unfortunately. Our mids are just so far out of it, abs past their prime. Need 2 or 3 26 yr old gun mids to compete.
Also need a well-being coach and a few game plan make over more than anything.
And an injection of youth. They had Jackson, Pickett, Sparrow, Spargo, Rivers and Bowey. All under 21. Who said you can’t win a flag with a crop of kids?
I agree with the first part but that has no bearing on the question asked about what we should be focusing on. We need to focus on how we can be the best we can be..trying to copy another team is doomed to fail with how fast the game moves.
And they are all going to be very good players but other than Jackson none had any real influence on the game. Which shows that you need to bring in good youth but you also need quality senior players who will stand up when it counts. They won the game because their stars shot the lights out and their middle tier players put on unbelievable pressure. Not because of their kids. I agree their drafting has been very good but thats a separate issue.
Depends if he gets injured or not. I just want to see what he can do if he’s not injured all the time.Maybe we can start pumping games into Stephens next year. He has good size. Be good to see another big bull in there.
Maybe we can acknowledge once and for all that the constipated gameplan we've insisted on employing simply doesn't win finals, and study what does win them......
And our star mids are past it. No doubt. They had their time. We need to prepare the next lot.

Our gameplan absolutely is a fail. But i wouldnt be trying to copy melbournes gameplan as by the time we do they will have evolved it. We need to get ahead of that and craft a new gameplan that works to our strengths.
I agree with you on that (except for dangerfield who has been playing injured for 18 months and will be fine off a good pre season). We have some quality contributors like guthrie and menegola but we need to bring parfitt holmes stephens and some other good young mids through.
Agreed.
My point is that we've laboured an inferior gameplan for years now, and Melbourne's demolition of us, and their display tonight, SHOULD finally convince CS to do something different.
They've exposed us as being well behind the 8 ball, and we have some catching up to do.
