Don't get upset by anything said in trade radio Ffs... It is purely a vessel to get clicks and create headlines and traffic, accuracy isn't at all important and even when something accurate is said the tweets and reporting focus on something else.

The sooner people see it for what it is and stop losing their s**t over it the better for all involved
I don't lose an ounce of sleep over trade radio. I don't listen to it.

Just reading through the news and a few comments in here and clearly Rendell was telling porkies for the sake of making a story appear out of nowhere. That type of garbage, whether it's Rendell or anyone in the media, should be called out. Zero accountability. Just seems some of these fools think if you start a sentence with "I'm told" they can pretty much say anything .

Do you think there's a chance we try to turn the pick 7 into their pick 3 somehow as part of this deal, in order to secure Clark?
If we make it semi-attractive to them perhaps involving 18 (3 and Bruhn for 7 and 18?), it could be win-win given they'll be assuming Bruhn is out the door anyway, and the top 7 draft prospects are pretty even? We get our 2 men and leave them with a handsome 5 picks in the top 20.
18 may be needed for Henry though I guess?
If we were to get pick 3 - then I would be chasing Cadman/Wardlaw etc instead of Clark.

Agree and we will imo.
We will do what we always do.

We always get the deals done without embarrassing the other party. Collingwood will get our pick 18, wright will be able to say that he played hardball to get what he wanted, we will say nothing but welcome the player to our club. Collingwood will be able to sell the deal as a “win” to their clueless fans and we will laugh all the way home.

It is classic Wells, Mackie is learning from the best.

If I was Mackie and Geelong, I'd be having a quiet conversation and demanding he make an apology on air and retract his incorrect remarks which might damage the clubs reputation.

Rendell would get very nervous I reckon.

IIRC, he 'resigned' from his list manager position at the Crows after comments he made about recruiting indigenous players.
That's the thing when he was sacked everyone in the AFL was saying you can't take him seriously.

Now, he is the all-knowing oracle of the AFL whose word we need to take as gospel

I have to agree with JJ. His value is hard to ascertain. 24-year-old key forward who has shown glimpses he can play at AFL level.

He's more of an athlete that a footballer, but key forwards / backs that can play, albeit inconsistent output, will always have some value.

They do take time to really come on the big guys, 59 games in 5 years and he might be ready to come on if given a big run at it.

Opposition clubs will certainly recognise his potential to continue to develop and improve with the right coaching and enough game time. But he could still amount to nothing. Big guys are afforded much more time.

Ideally I'd like to keep him, after 59 games and 5 years in the system, and with a change in position to defence, I'd like to see us persist with him and hopefully reap the rewards for the time we've put into his development.

Many key forwards have failed in that position but gone on to succeed as key backs. I'd hate to see him go to Port of where ever and burn us by becoming a good key defender, a position we don't have much depth in.

Isn't JJ a club employee? Seems strange for him to comment like this.

He works part-time with the club, but he also had a radio gig commenting on the AFL & that includes chatting about Geelong when required - not sure it would work if he excluded himself from discussion every time that Geelong was raised, and pretty sure he'd know the line to be drawn with what he can or can't say

Agreed. Speaking of mackie he will be on trade radio at 11.

I wonder whether the Cats/Pies could be thrashing out a deal that placates the Pies want for our pick 18 and our need for a FF2? If there is a bit of a discrepancy between the Pies perceived value and what they offered (apparently low balled) then the Cats would rightly be reticent to part with just pick 18.

So perhaps we get Henry and their FF2 - they get Pick 18 and a FF3. Will be much easier getting a future third in (Sav etc) than another future second.

Listening to it again, that actually went even better than I thought, haha. I thought I was actually a lot meaner, but it actually just sounded pragmatic and easy going.

I did love how Rendell basically had nothing to say to any of it, and pretty much agreed with everything I said - which was unexpected, haha.

Shows he's just doing s**t for clicks and controversy, and doesn't stand by what he's said at all - which is the exact reason I called in, was to see if he would double down on his claims with evidence, or just run in the other direction from them (shocker, it was the latter)
But you were spot on... its like buying a 2nd hand car... you not going to offer them the top price straight away..

Don't forget it's actually 6 years in the system - spent his first year developing in the VFL before debuting in his 2nd year

Is he an employee or a volunteer? Might be able to get a way with a bit more as an unpaid worker & potentially used as a strategic mouthpiece.
Whatever he is the bloke gets one of the best seats in the house on gameday

We may want a future 3rd pick for ourselves, but we look more in need of a future 2nd - so getting a future 3rd at this stage isn't likely to be a high priority

I think all the more reason to keep him..he's worth a lot more to us than what we'd get in return IMO.

If we get a really good pick, sure....but that's unlikely to happen especially with Port having tonget a deal done for JHF and they've got Rioli to work through too. I can't see Sav being a big priority for them?

He is more likely to get a game at Port than he is at Geelong.

Who's spot does he take in the Geelong side?

He may be worth more to us in 2023 in terms of being a back-up option than we could may get in trade value, but not sure he's necessarily going to play a lot of senior footy for us next season & considering he's then out of contract, we'd get even less in trade value

If Port are willing to stump up something like 35, let alone something like 20 - then surely we take it & run because that could help us with other trade pieces that we're trying to fit into place and us better placed going forward

I'm not sure why people think clubs like Hawthorn be scared in taking Clark as he might want to go home to Geelong.. just because that's happened to a few doesn't mean I will happen to Clark... he is more then willing to play at any club
I agree Foxdog. Not many ex Falcons that have been drafted by a Melbourne club have 'come home' to Geelong. We've done well with interstate guys coming back or players wanting that country lifestyle, but not many from Melbourne clubs that were Falcons initially have come back. Most go on and have good carers at those clubs and are happy there.

I can't see Clark coming back here if he gets to Hawks. If he goes interstate, maybe..
