Is the top end of this draft considered poor?? Very rare to hear a club willing to give away pick 2 like WCE is.

If they do trade it ...I suspect its because they have assessed that the WA talent is a little further back and strong next year.

Clubs are quite enamoured by Ginbey and it's easy to see why. The West Australian started his campaign as a third tall defensive option but developed across the year into a midfielder with strength and force who can get things going his team's way. His last game of the season came for East Perth's colts side when he had 19 disposals and kicked two goals, having also had a taste of senior experience through the year. Ginbey has been one of the season's big risers.

Hewett completed his season by impressing at senior WAFL level with Swan Districts. He played four straight games and averaged 16 disposals and a goal across that block of footy, showing he could match it with senior bodies and hold his own. Hewett is a confident player who can hustle and bustle through the midfield as well as hit the scoreboard. His best game of the year came against Vic Metro at the under-18 carnival when he was a physical force.

Key defender

The key defender has been off the radar since shoulder surgery in July after playing with the injury through the first part of the season. Busslinger is an intercepting key back who can mark well and drifts into the contest. In his last game of the year he picked up 26 disposals and six marks against the Allies for Western Australia.

As I said... Life after HAWK. That is the elephant.
Cameron doesn't replace he compliments what we have... very nicely i must add.
As for Neale. 1 year contract for a hybrid Ruck/Forward. Showed a little.. But has a ways to go.

So you're saying MP is no good?? We shall see.
Seen enuff of him to know he's gonna be a ripper.
Too much Vic bias when it comes to ranking prospects for me.
Cheers

A key feature of 'Life after Hawkins' will be Cameron - yes they are currently teammates & compliment each other very nicely, but having Cameron signed for the next 4 seasons will help with the transition when Hawkins does decide to retire

We're not in the same situation as a few years ago where it was Hawkins up forward & trying to fit in the other pieces, instead we've not got a much more rounded forward line in which Hawkins plays his role but so do the others. So while Hawkins will be a loss when he retires, we are now in a better position to transition into life after Hawkins than we were even 2 years ago

And while it was only a 1-year deal that Neale, he's looked good up forward in the VFL - no doubt he still has a lot of development ahead of him, but he's a natural forward (more so than a ruck), and wouldn't be surprised to see him getting more senior opportunities next season and with a focus in the forward line & maybe the second ruck, but long term I don't see him spending too much time in the ruck

I think Hewett will be a player too but in this day and age it's safer to stick with the local product.

That sound like utter spin... what does the restriction on the future trades ...have to do with the 2 R1 picks in 4 year rule...

Lack of twitter characters to expand further maybe?

I think it's the idea that the AFL have the 2 x Round 1 picks in 4 year rule, but have been open that clubs can apply for exemptions to that and it'll be considered on a club by club basis, and that you're not just "throwing away" round 1 picks on 34 yr olds...

With the trading of future picks, the rule has been you can trade your future first but no other future picks, or you can trade away as many future picks as you want on the provision that you retain your future first - I can't remember the AFL ever mentioning that teams can apply for exemptions to that rule, though it seems some clubs are seeking just that this year

I have been thinking about this. I would not mind adding a big lump FF type. Its unusual type these days but just like with Conway ... its that type you build around. A big value kid like Scully if one appealed. Most of these guys will take 2 years plus.

As things have turned out I can understand why we would have offered pick 38 as first offer for Ollie. The Bruhn deal was probably a lot further down the track, we had probably committed to the player and had discussions with GWS and offered pick 18.
Pick 38 was the next best we had so we offered it. You can’t give what you don’t have nor offer on what you may get.
You can always lift your offer but you can’t lower it.
Hopefully things play out as I would love to see Ollie at the Cats.

Correct but once we trade into a higher pick we offer that

The post was about why ... the Eagles may be prepared to trade back in draft from P2

I like Hewitt too...but im very much on the pick Vic players for us ..especially while the Eagles are near bottom.

4 seasons? I thought he'd signed for 5 years? 2 years ago...

Apologies, but you're right. The Eagles can't go wrong if they traded back.

5 years with a trigger for a 6th...

"Foxfooty.com.au understands the Cats’ offer to Cameron is a five-year deal, plus incentives, worth around $900,000 per season. The deal also features a games clause for a sixth season, which will be triggered if Cameron plays 14 matches in his fifth year."

Happy with Bowes and Bruhn. Use No 7 pick to bring in a young gun. Not concerned whethef we get Ollie H. Would like to see Esava stay and given more opportunities to play. SDK, Ratugolea, Cameron, Hawkins is a powerful spine. Sav punching and occasionally clunking a mark is not too much to expect. A year playing back might just be the medicine for him.

Neale could well become the next Blicavs, as he has the tank albeit no-one will be able to equal Blicavs in that department. But he can run very well for his size, is a much better kick, can pinch-hit in the ruck and drift back like Blicavs to help out in defence. Yes..? No...?

Dear Lord.

Can I please ask a quick favour. When Mackie is on Trade Radio today can it please be timed to coincide with Matt Rendell being in the chair.

Amen
Now Jack, we've talked about these last-minute requests.

I'm a busy woman, and I've already given you the premiership, Bowes (along with the heads up), Bruhn, and I'm working on getting Clark and Henry right at this minute.

Best I can do is the Smite button at the end of trade week.

Don’t think so. Looks more like a KPF that can pinch hit in the ruck to me. Can’t see him racking up enough ball to play as a ruck rover.

Great post; perfectly summarised. It's smart list management and will help in our list transition. I reckon Bowes aside, the other two trades are every bit about 2024 and beyond. Not to say Bruhn and Henry won't get games next year as they will.
Yep and I back the club to convince all of those drafted over past 24 months to see 2023 as a great development year playing mostly vfl (in what should be a finals type team) and gear up for more games in 2024 and 2025. Of course risk for those young guys is that some of our players look ageless (Hawke, smith, 2E) and we will continue to being in those types so you do need to back yourself being good enough.

For those like Neale and 2022 first years I think a no brainer to back yourself. I still think I would think twice if I was cooper Stephens. the only spot opened up is Selwood and he now has tanner and Bowes to compete with (and Parf wasn’t in 22) with anyone of the younger guys who could rapidly develop (mitch, Willis, Whyte, pick 7 could all play similar roles And who knows how quickly we find out). Anyway I suspect he backs himself but if an offer from Collingwood came it might be tempting?

He started last season in the VFL in defence & looked lost - no doubt with development things could change, but he looks a natural forward & understands how to play the game as a forward; rather see him develop in that role

A year playing back ahead of who, though?

Our backline is absolutely set for years with Stewart (29), SDK (21), Henry (24) and Kolodjashnij (27).

I'm happy to hold Sav as back up but he is well within his rights to look for more guaranteed gametime elsewhere as there's every chance he'd only play a handful of games next year, and be relying on injuries to do so.

also I don’t know how quickly this will come up - life after Hawkins. Frankly looks immortal to me! Hasn’t he played like 3 seasons straight now? 😯

Yeah fair enough but I've prayed for a few other wins recently and haven't had any luck on those. Once you've got Clark and Henry sorted, and if it's not too much to ask, some assistance in those areas would be greatly appreciated.

If you could help an old digger I'd be forever in your debt. It gets cold and lonely some nights :p

Life after Hawk is the time of Shannon Neale
