If we missed out on Hopper and now potentially Bowes on reasonably big money deals, does this mean we use that cash to target a FA next year perhaps?

Possibly. There will be parish and a lot of other quality on the market.

Garbage.

Was O'Meara even at the Suns when Bowes was drafted. Line ball at best to say that O'Meara will be a factor. And from what I'm told, the whole best mates with Scrimshaw thing is a bit of a stretch. Do you work with your best mate?

Weren't you also 100% sure that Menegola was coming in for the grand final? Maybe you need to get a better 'source'

We seem to be missing out on all our major targets this trade period. The Hopper, Grundy, De Goey didnt work out...now seemingly Bowes to follow a similar pattern?

Good thing we won a flag though lol, it kinda puts any trade disappointments into perspective. Difficult to be too flat about it when we just achieved footy nirvana. 😌
This is what happens when we adhere to pay structures. We just don't overpay and that's been the key to our success over the years.

Thats true but hes never played finals and he might never in his career if he goes to hawks.
A big selling point for us is playing finals.

Definitely our big selling point, along with certain lifestyle benefits (if you’re into that kind of thing).

Depends on Bowes priorities/belief in himself.

Of course S. Mitchell (and, er, Scrimshaw?) will be spruiking Hawthorns capacity to skyrocket up the ladder… Finals just around the corner, all that …

Let's be real here, from Bowes' perspective he'd be pretty stupid to choose the Cats over clubs who can offer him much more immediate prospects of playing time (such as the Hawks or the Bombers). It makes very little sense for his career to come here. Hes in his mid-20s now. The guy needs to be playing.
Geelong have a whole bunch of older players closer to retirement than not, and a club that frequently plays finals.

The only appeal Hawks have is they likely pay him more.

I have tried but I do not understand the reasoning behind having to use as many picks as they have list spots. Does that mean when you bundle up some of those picks to get a f/s, you then have list spots that can’t be filled?

Its all pretty simple

Reasoning? To try to prevent clubs bundling almost useless picks to pay for gun kids

If we miss out on pick 7 then there’s no way I’d be trading both 18 and a future R1 for Henry and Bruhn.

Need to keep one

If we miss pick 7 we will have to trade the 2 r1s to get the deals done (unless collingwood will take our future 2nd plus our r3s this year but i doubt that unless its tied in with tom mitchell etc).

Hawks board now confident he's going there. Change in momentum coincided with Jumping's post. Just sayin'.....
Ha very funny. Which post exactly?

I checked again about an hour ago and no change as far as they've heard. But definite change of sentiment from Hawks board so maybe they upped the offer and made it too hard to say no.

These things chop and change but where there's smoke there's fire. Maybe we got nutted at the 11th hour.

Completely agree. If I was his manager, I'd be pushing him in Hawthorn's direction for that very reason.

I also don't believe Hawks will be at the bottom for as long as people think (or hope). History says they bounce back quickly and never stay down the bottom very long.

Only 5 games in 2022

Yep, fell off the radar at The Suns - which is surprising as he’s no mug, and he’s a Queenslander …

I’m guessing most players just want to play. Finals a bonus of course.

He goes to Hawthorn, he likely walks into their Rd 1 team.

Hope he (and #7) come to us of course - we’ll see!

The post where you said he's coming to us. You've got to stop relying on the local butcher's mate's stepson for mail.

If we miss on Bowes and his money ...can we do something with the cap space... and who has what picks. If we can gain an extra pick in the 20's from pick upgrades or what ever.. it will put pressure on the Pies if we can load his contract and threaten the draft.

The cap space will be very handy yes but i still think the future 1st is going to the giants (with stuff back the other way) and pies will take 18 on the last day with the threat of us getting him at 18 in the nd in play. Ollie just needs to hold firm on not signing at the pies and tell them he wont go back.

Yeah but theres silver linings as missing hopper got us bruhn and henry as a pivot.
Who knows what players or picks we will pivot to if we dont get bowes?

swings and roundabouts. ... My bet is there is probably someone else around if we have money. Pear will be stewing over the chance to grab sav going.

Disagree. He has a much stronger guarantee of playing time with the Hawks than us.

Not really in 2024 most of our vets will be gone he will get games.
The issue is the hawks can offer more $ lots of it with mitchell and gunston going they will barely hit the cap floor.

I was going to say that..pear will be annoyed if we dont get bowes as then i imagine we hold sav.
