The cap space will be very handy yes but i still think the future 1st is going to the giants (with stuff back the other way) and pies will take 18 on the last day with the threat of us getting him at 18 in the nd in play. Ollie just needs to hold firm on not signing at the pies and tell them he wont go back.
Surely nobody else takes O Henry in the draft and he gets to 18 anyway

Have we even offered 18?

Weren't you also 100% sure that Menegola was coming in for the grand final? Maybe you need to get a better 'source'
I don;t know why we rag on people who provide information. They don't have 100% accuracy as things move quickly all the time. Personally, it is very appreciated whether or not it is 100% accurate. And if it doesnt come to be true, then really, why give a f*ck? It's only football.

McKenna would really fit into our style of play. Just burst through zones in formation with Gryan, Stengle and Close.

Really hope we get McKenna on deck, VicW for the very reasons you’ve identified - hey was he the guy who busted out a Gaelic Footy style ‘solo’ on the run a couple of seasons ago? If so, he has a certain, how does one say, je nais sais quoi…

got very confident literally after Stevo said the Hawks were getting more confident...
that flog doesn't actually know at all and is just doing what people on twitter do

Apparently Mack just declined an interview on SEN - so it's all pointing to Bowes to Hawks, IMO. Put it this way, gonna be more surprised than I already was when we were announced as the front runners, if he does pick us

People already changing there tune.

Didn’t want bowes he’s not best 22 at GC.

Never heard of him

Good, we can spend money elsewhere.

Most likely the same people who posted they hope to get him/liked those types of posts.

Would I take bowes in a trade by itself with no contract over his head, maybe.

Would I take bowes with his contract at pick 7
Absolutely I would

Becoming a bit boring and repetitive, but I'll repeat what I've said a few times already.

This is a chat forum and people share things they hear of have been told. That does not mean that someone posting in here has spoken to player X or the CEO of club Y. It simply means that you just post what you hear or what someone tells you (particularly when they're confident in what they're telling you). Is that not the very loose and non serious objective of these boards.

If we're mandating that people only post what can be proven to be 100% factual then can I kindly suggest, that it makes the whole concept of Big Footy somewhat irrelevant and we'll all just sit around and wait to be told by the reporters. I'm not sure the whole objective here is to post something in the absolute knowledge that you're 100% ??? Think about it and don't over complicate it too much - people come into forums like this to share what "they hear" or what they've been told". If people sit in front of their screens hanging on every post thinking it's life changing and 100% accurate then I think a walk outside in the fresh air could be a better alternative.

So in terms of two recent examples that people seem to want to focus on.

1/ Bowes - I spoke to someone with very close connections inside the Hawks. Simply passed on what they thought and what they anticipated would happen.
2/ Holmes - not going to go into too much detail and betray a person close to me and out them publicly - but I can guarantee that the view Max Holmes was playing was absolutely from people about as close to the kid as you can get and there were some pretty distraught people late in the day Friday that didn't prioritise calling me to tell me that the situation had changed.

Can I suggest for the sake of everyone's enjoyment in here that people just lighten up a bit and not take everything so seriously.

I won't be losing sleep over a guy who couldn't crack his way into a Suns side...pick 7 however.
Let's be honest here....how many of us could honestly say we give two hoots about Bowes as a player of interest? If not for pick 7, his name would probably have not been mentioned in this thread.

This whole deal is about the lure of pick 7. Bowes is the steak knives that no one really expects to be a regular, and if he does, it's a huge bonus.

Once again if Mackie couldn't close this out it isn't good enough would be the best draft pick since 2006

We still have Stephens Neale Conway Willis Kroeger Dempsey Knevitt we need to get games into before we even draft more players, so things still on the up

I just like the romance of getting Pick 7 the year Joel retires.

Like someone said above, I'd rather see Willis, Stephens or Knevitt in the middle next year above Bowes.

Henry I do want though.

I think you're being a bit harsh on Mackie. You can't win every draft or trade scenario. Lot's of factors at play, and in the case of Bowes and the way Geelong manage player payments, it might have been a bridge too far to compete with dollars the Hawks are prepared to part with.

But no firm decision as yet so it could go either way.

Disagree. You don't know what factors are driving Bowes and the Hawks can a) throw more money at him and b) pretty much guarantee him a Rd 1 spot.

The point of draft and trade equalisation is to make things harder for the teams up the ladder - and right now, we're sitting at the top of the pile.

If we get Bruhn and Henry done, that's mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned. Anything like Bowes etc. would have been a nice bonus but nothing more.

I still think if we make out of this period with Bruhn and Henry after just romping in a flag win we have made out like bandits

That isn't to say I wouldn't like getting pick 7 out of it either, but I am not too greedy haha

We could do both , stop being tight arses and get the deal done

100% I said that a few days ago. The pick 7 was a nice to have. Get Henry, get Bruhn and add two promising homegrown talents to the young core we are already building. SDK, Holmes, Henry, Bruhn, Stephens, Knevitt, Willis, Dempsey and Conway, all under 22, is a great young nucleus to build around.

I think your info on Holmes has been proven correct. Holmes and the medicos thought he was playing, it was only a late call from Scott. Unless you're Scott himself, I'm not sure how you could've known any different. Your mail was good.

Even McKenna. I suspect if we miss out on Bowes, we'll go much harder on that once we've secured Ollie and Tanner. Really can't complain...such a different feeling winning a flag. Honestly couldn't give a f*ck who we end up with or what we give up lmao :tearsofjoy:

You weren't the only one on here and other boards who had info that Bowes to Geelong was a done deal - so there's no need for people to hang sh*t on you or call you out. Can guarantee, majority of people appreciate yours, Jack the Godfather's and year of the cat's inside info we've gotten the last couple of weeks. I'd rather speculation than absolutely no info at all - so kudos for at least making it interesting, haha
