Disagree Vdubs...cant see why ..he is not OH. If Hawks pick him he probably stays. If GC pick him and he wants out ... id think its the Pies who he will want.

If all players had that same choice as a Rookie B... is there any doubt that he would choose Collingwood?
fair enough- What is OH? Why Pies? You know more about Clark than I'm aware of.

We don't really need anything, it is about picking something that will actually get used. The expansion teams make this mistake all the time picking something they already have is spades and burning the value of their what they draft or what they end up throwing away to accommodate the new player.

Given our recruitments starting mid age is a bit irrelevant, our transition plan is plain to see.

The MC backed in Kolodjashnij while he was suspect, now he is a premiership CHB, he turns 28 next year, he'll be there for the next 3+ years bearing injury. a big spend on a KPD would be a waste. I expect us to grab a pair of KPP with our later picks. Sav is a purely break in case of an emergency option.

We drafted four inside last year in the national draft (I see the bunch as probably all close to pure inside mids ), traded in two this year. Any pure inside mids we draft now is just being added to that huge pile, if you over target the area you just kneecap some investment without even giving it a chance. We just dumped Stephens cause we wouldn't be able to give him a chance to show what he could do, be silly to repeat it again.

You can always fit in a player with decent leg speed and a decent kick. We'd actual be able to see some use from in the in the next couple of years. A pick 8 isn't going to stay at the club after two years and near zero games at AFL level. That flanker isn't going to stay a flanker but at least has a chance to find their way into the 22 in the next two year.
Good post. Unless you’re a ruck or KPP your getting itchy feet before your career goes down the toilet from yr 2 onwards.

Disagree a bit on the key defender. We do have a need imo. We can get away with one monster (SDK) surrounded by athletic flex talls in Henry, Kolo, ZGuthrie & Stewart but if SDK missed significant time we’d be exposed badly. It would be the Blitz back move etc etc which is poor list management. At least we keep Sav for the off chance he’s not injured and could come in.

Busslinger makes the most sense to me but Clark will be irresistible.

I also reckon the labelled inside v outside mids gets way overplayed these days. You just need “great” midfielders. I can maybe cop that you need different height midfielders for balance. The good teams seem to have this. We have a lot of mids on the list but you need to break a few eggs to get the right ones. If Clark is a gun then there are future roles for him and very soon.

The worry for me is that the main glut coming through is Clark, Parfitt, Atkins, Willis, Bruhn, Whyte and Kroeger who are all 182ish or below.

Danger, Blitz, Guthrie (our A team) and Duncan are all 30 and 186cm plus and we only really have Knevitt, Maxy, Bowes and Dempsey coming through there. Add in Menegola and Smith who are tall runners and we have some list spots there. Probably why McKenzie is now allegedly in the mix. Tsatas would be perfect but don’t see that happening.

I like Clark... I do agree that he is a bit same/same as some other younger inside guys we have that are also on the shorter side.

Clark, Bruhn, Willis, Parfitt, Atkins... all shorter inside mid types.

McKenzie looks very neat as a player... I agree with people saying he has some Guthrie about him... Just looks solid in most parts of the game but not really mindblowing in any either (basically like Guthrie)... Just a good solid looking 188cm mid.

Tsatas gets a shite load of the pill and is the best option for balance for mine... I do look at him any worry about his efficiency though without seeing his raw numbers on that, but 34 touches a game at NAB level 23 uncontested/11 contested, 8 I50's, 10 score involvements, 5.5 clearances with only 1.3 tackles is huge numbers. It shows he works very hard on the inside and outside. looks like he could fit in nicely after Duncan, Smith move on... mid, wing + flanks... He just gets the ball. Reckon he will be hard to pass up... But still feel we would take Clark if available.

In the end if we can choose correctly and pick a guy that will have a long career and push AA level we will have done well.

Because I'd be pretty sure in saying some of the names we are mentioning will turn out just ok and others will turn out AA level players... Whilst I'd love to just pick the eyes out of it and get the best of the bunch that's available... Realistically if we can nab a guy that ends up in the AA basket and not take a guy that turns out meh... It'll be a good selection for mine (no matter what position, size or team balance the player offers) just make sure we pick a very good player in the long term.

And only time will tell how it's gonna unfold.

We are pretty much playing with house money with our first pick aswell... What a bonus it is to have it after winning a flag.

I suspect this is one of those drafts where the stars will end up coming from later picks, like Shai Bolton, Chad Warner, etc. Names like Hewett, George, Hustwaite, even Lemmey could be anything.

Busslinger isn't a monster type, he also 3 pre-season away from adding meaningful depth. He isn't covering for SDK anytime soon. We do need to add in a developing KPD, We'll have one late national and two rookie picks to grab one.

The big difference between us now in 2022 vs 2020 is that we went all in on respecting the concept of outside midfielders, most lists don't have the depth to be able to afford to, we can which is why we were so dominant this year.

You can only fit in so many inside mids in the 22, once you hit the limit (4, with Blicavs we had 5, if you want more you have to rest them forward) you get little additional value from the next ones on the other hand good outside mids can fit in almost anywhere and you can never have a enough.

It the cake v cream. Once you have enough cake you lather it in as much cream as possible.

Vdubs ... OH ... I was not trying to be enigma like ... the boy who dreamed of playing the hoops. , was celebrating our victory with a beer even before he was on our list ... Jack's brother of course..

where as... JClark has a family deep into Collingwood. I doubt our locale would be the driving force to see him pick us but in professional footy I guess there is a chance..but if I was guessing id say his choice would be to play anaza day for the black and white

I would love to go back a few pages, and count how many times a few on here have changed what they want, but can not be bothered lol

It’s a clear top 7 for mine:
  1. Will Ashcroft
  2. Aaron Cadman
  3. Harry Sheezel
  4. George Wardlaw
  5. Elijah Tsatas
  6. Jhye Clark
  7. Cameron Mackenzie
If we get any of these players I’ll be rapt.

Anyone watched much of Josh Eyre? Drafted 2020 pick 39 at bombers. Just delisted.

I liked him in his draft year, left footer and athletic. Plays at either end of the ground and 198cm.

I'd almost prefer to try and pick him up, take pick 7 and trade out our later picks into next year.

Already has two years development and big guys can take time.

We have 3 i guess 2 and save 1 for midseason draft
We have 2 primary lists spots and 2 Cat A spots.

CAT A ??
CAT A ??
CAT A Riccardi (99%)
CAT A Dempsey

CAT B Clohsey (hopefully)
CAT B ??

Hopefully we can trade out to next year or bundle up our extra ND pick (#53 & # 56 after bids). Trading back would be ideal as we have nothing next year.

I agree it makes sense to “pass” on the second rookie spot incase we need something during next season.

Unaware of the Pies connection.
Is Clark a Pies supporter?

It seems to me there is a distinct top 3 or 4 . By the time it gets to us ..it depends on personal taste. Ess then Gold Coast will define the next 4 or 5 selections. If Phil get select by Ess and Ginbey get selected by Gold Coast for example ... might create a few selection wobbles for haw.

Go back over every draft and the top 7 are NEVER the top 7 in the years following. Let alone in order. Not dissimilar to tattslotto so it is. Most of us are only going off a two minute highlights package. I still wake in a muck sweat over Jordan Murdochs back in the day. I’ll just be happy that

a) this is basically a free hit courtesy of our list management and contracting expertise and
b) Wells/Mackie will have the bigger picture of who they’re looking at via free agency etc. when weighing up talent/need

My thoughts are the top half dozen seems to be settled. The next dozen or so are around the same mark. Clark wouldn’t get a tenth of the chat if he was on the other side of Melbourne. Something like Sydney’s 14 & 17 is a live option we could use on a KPD/George.

Either way reading with interest and looking forward to the first hour of the draft for the first time in a while.

I’f I was having a punt on a framed market for us I’d take Hewett for a bit of value with Ginbey my roughie.

wouldn't Mind trading back for George if Clark gone
Needs a year off but perfect environment to do that
Top 10 pick when healthy
Talent

Yes....interesting that he isn't being talked about. Apparently plenty of talent and unlucky to do his ACL at just the wrong time.

Can you imagine the response if Wells picked him...it would be epic.
