The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Trade Period Opens: Monday October 7 at 9.00am

Same people who go on about how terrible it is to live in Geelong, yet we constantly attract players here because it’s a bloody good life here (especially if you have the money). Those same supporters live in tinny little units cramped into each other, hearing your neighbours, not having a garden - living pretty ordinary lives overall - and they call it urbane (if they even know the word).

Point B is the really important part here for me.... they are absolutely still entertaining it... to the point they clearly have had discussions with us already, watch this space.. as things change and the next 10 days evolve this is still absolutely on the cards I think

Point B also goes to what a lot of us were saying here earlier. That is, It will be extremely difficult to find an outcome that both Geelong and Melbourne (and Oliver) are willing to accept. I see the size of the contract as such a big impediment that it will be challenging to find a resolution.

Clearly the Oliver thing is really a cluster#### of Melbourne and Claytons making. We have done the right thing by putting our case, but I bet we were clear on what we would pay both in trade and salary. If Melbourne want to continue to make the hole they dug bigger, fine. We have Martin, we will land Smith after some grandstanding rubbish from the dogs, so lets see what unearthed gem for the midfield the team come up with to add depth for next year. Just quietly, we spent an under 10 pick on Jhye Clarke and he has yet to show any real value for that pick. If he is a long slow burn, fine, but next year needs to be where he steps up to regular senior ball. SO he could still be the next piece of real depth there but I’m less confident as time goes on.

Forget Wines that bloke is cooked, like Boak he had a chance to come here a couple years ago and chose to stay. Sexton is a has been, was good early in his career but can hardly get a game now.

If I were Clayton, I don't know if I would feel all that comfortable in my skin hanging around that club over the next 12 months, not from a 'will I be traded perspective' more from a 'am I actually a valued and appreciated member of this club' feeling... which I don't think is a great thing for someone trying to achieve such a high level of excellence.

After the last few days I’m not sure they would have even done that.
Has the stench of a shitty PR stunt to appease the masses.
We’ll see how this has played out by the end of trade week.
Still think there are a lot of balls in the air and no one knows how they’ll land.
