Unless Oliver agrees to rip up his contract prior to leaving Melbourne, not sure exactly how anything gets renegotiated once he gets to Geelong

Reports suggest that over the remaining 6 years of his current deal, he's owed somewhere between $7million & $10million - having not long turned 27, he's not exactly at an age where we can spread out the remaining money owed over 10years

His contract is what it is, it will just depend on the split in who pays what over those remaining years
When you're traded is a new contract so even just leaving Melbourne his original contract is terminated

I love the fact we are having a crack at Oliver but seemingly only our terms. I reckon it’s only a small chance it happens. And that’s fine. But if it does happen, I can’t see us paying more than 800-900K per year and not giving up any more than a future first. Maybe Oliver would agree to taking less money? Who knows but we aren’t being desperate and that is the right approach.
I think one part of our pitch would’ve been to take a cut in wages and in turn we’ll do everything to turn your life around and become a solid citizen. Still has 30+ years of earning after footy. We pay 800 Dees 200 CO forgoes the rest. Future 2nd. We walk away is still a win as one of our main competitors is stuck with a player & contract that neither is happy with. Fascinating how this plays out.

Id think paying 700-800k of his wage and dees pay the rest would be a good start, Dees will want the world “because they want to keep him” but we are under no obligation to do anything so we can walk away if they get stupid with requests
And picks/players?

I reckon the Club has Chilli as their ruck with Rhys the reliever. With a few games thrown into Edwards who has put on a stone over the past 3-4 months i have heard. With a whisper i'm hearing of a journeyman coming in mainly for insurance. Cost is the issue. A Big massive Giant Phucker. Again cost. We are short of cash for obvious reasons lol.
Preuss as backup?

On what terms would you consider it a good trade for us?
I dunno I think Oliver at $1mpa is a good contract for a late first out when you risk weight it i guess. My thoughts can't grasp a solid value because the span of outcomes is too large.

I'm not saying a trade doesn't make sense for us, rather that the cap space we've got from not giving out dumb contracts is about to be taken up with another clubs dumb contract.

I think Clark will make a lot of people look a little silly soon enough.
I really do hope so... 3rd year in the system a Top 10 pick.
So far it's been an underwhelming start to his career for whatever the reasons.
Fingers crossed it pans out but i am not holding my breath.
Especially with amount of time, money and whatever picks going into acquiring the likes of...
Bailey Smith
Clayton Oliver
and from what i am hearing the looming opportunities of a Butters and/or a Brayshaw acquisition in the upcoming year.

Preuss as backup?
Only hick up will be Scott & Co as he isn't the ideal ruck type we want nor crave for our system.
Athlete is what we want. He is a lumbering bruiser.
But the cupboard is kinda bare with what we have to offer to acquire one cheaply.

One thing to bare in mind is that we'd have way more cap space then we'd know what to do with it. We have few players locked into deals greater than 4 years. We just thinned out a bunch of unproductive players who weren't on base wage contracts. We have a bunch of vets on single year contracts. We'll have double figure players on base wages next year

We can afford to cover a few bad contracts as long as we stay challenging.

Careful what you say Mitch, dont bite the hand that put you on the radar and gave you a chance to join an AFL club, cryptic backhanded comments wont get you far, “he prefers players who get to a prelim final not one way VFL runners”, reality is you werent good enough even if you thought you were.
Did you listen to the interview?
He came across very level headed and understanding of what would’ve been a challenging 18 months. Said he loved his time at the club and it is a challenging team to break into.

Decoding your riddles again (which I love) that’s obviously Pruess. There’s no way money is the issue though, he was pretty much begging to be signed by anyone on trade radio yesterday
Yes in saying that.
The man's gotta eat.
And he is a very big/large man. lol.

Probably because now he's at a low point - coming off two average seasons and injury.

Why wouldn't he be backing himself to return to his 2022 best, when he could command a better deal.
Exactly, would be doing himself a disservice to sign a new contract at possibly yie lower ebb of his career. Holding out and backing himself in to improve and therefore increase his value ala Max Holmes last contract

Yeh my original comment may have sounded like he was being salty. He said the coaches preferred to go with players they knew when midfield opportunities came up like Stewart and Holmes. Don’t think anyone could be upset about them 2 being picked in the mids over you

Yeah im just saying dont make comments about the coach preferring players “he knows” like he hadnt been watching you, sounds salty
