I said last year that we would win both Showdowns in 2023, reckon the second one being our home showdown will get ugly (scorewise) and then we will go on a run of wins like 2015-2018.

God this feels good.

Now given we gave them a spanking with their prison bars, what is the next distraction from them? China again?

Bad:
Brodie Smith is going quietly into the night, not the same player after his 2017 knee reco.
Milera is nowhere and is swirling in the vortex of Smiths black hole

Milera just can't defend and avoids body contact. Will always look good with ball in hand but he is not a defender. Happy for him to play in another position but not in the role he is in at moment.

OK, so watched this game from behind the goals last night

Tex- I really like his ruckwork at throw ins, close up he does a great job but we really need to rest him a bit now. I'd probably make the call on him at seasons end, great player for the club but his time is coming up.

Thrilthorpe- Hamish got one right, we all saw it last night but this kid needs games, he won't influence them all but the more he gets, the more consistent he becomes, dead set match winner. As much as I think he'd make a great ruck...and he would, dangerous AF up forward

Gollant- being honest, not sure he makes it but give him some games in the ones to make sure, got better as the game went on but wasn't great before

Rankine- Haven't seen him before, must have been a rookie pick, goes OK, should keep playing him

File- this kid will be great, nice 3 goals should have had a fourth. He is like McHenry but can football.

Murph - did OK, wasn't a liability

The Fonz - Heeeeeeeeeeeeeey he'll be club champ in 2 more seasons

O'Brien defeated some up and comer who I believe had never rucked a day in his life...and it showed...imagine paying big bucks for that

Berry and Laird both need to pull a finger out, we got smashed in the centre despite O'Brien whacking the work experience guy

Hinge- I never realised until last night his name rhymes with Minge, no wonder I love him, really good game.

Dawson- Yeah he does OK...Not sure he should have been the medallist would have given it to Thithorpe, he turned the game back in the second quarter

Murray- what a beast of a young man, he was caught out of position a few times and to see him push his way back into position was impressive, good kick on him too.

Michaelanny- Can not be more impressed with him, probably should have gone higher in the draft. Reckon he is a good chance at going top 3 in the rising star, obviously wouldn't win it cause Victoria...

Rest of defence uninspiring but did ramp it up last quarter with Milera and Smith taking the game on...but that is their role so maybe effin play it

Scholl- I don't think he makes it, for all the good stuff he does, all I see is him refusing contact from Powell Pepper and letting him through 3rd quarter, it stood out as poor.

Sloane- Obviously needed Jones on the field to inspire him, great last quarters by both and Jones goal was a cracker from distance

Strange but a shout out for Powell Pepper, he embodies a lot of what the Port Magpies stand for and he is on his Mick Malone in that regard in that team.

All up, great to beat those idiots in their Collingwood jumpers pushing the "heritage" line. I actually had to read the word out to a few Port supporters when the flag was unfurled

The Good:
Rankine, Rachelle, TT all showing their potential to be elite AA level superstars
Watching some little Poort kid sulking and having a tantrum in the stand in last 2 mins of game :$
The PAP filth can now associate their 'Prizzun Baahs' jumper with a Showdown loss. :$

The Ugly:
The umpiring
The Sholl decision
That Sholl discission was at the worst end of stupid. The umpire actually pinged him htb after he called play and for Sholl thinking about playing on. The player tackle him in the protected zone. Every player is always thinking about playing on all the time.
Has 4 umpires made them think they need to be more relevant to justify being out there.

It is nearly at the point where for Boak the time to call it quits.

A courageous player who has given his all to the club but unfortunately there will be no flag for Boak.

Agree with this, one year too many. As much as Hinkley will wear the blame for their lack of success guys like Gray and Boak get away a bit unscathed. They really didn't stand up in their big games.

Disagree on Sholl, you must have missed that mark he took in defense and he laid another equal career high 4 tackles which he did last week. Clearly he has worked on this area of the game so there's a player there, offensively there's never been any doubt.

Thilthorpe was outstanding, not sure why Nick's said a couple weeks ago he wasn't quite there yet and selecting absolute spuds like Himmelberg over him
I think Nicks press conference was a good insight.

He said they saw something click with Thilthorpe in training (presumable his attack on the ball in the air) that they had been waiting to see, and he has carried that into the game.

I think that is fair. We have all lamented his effort in packs at times, so send him the the SANFL to learn to hit the ball harder was a decent idea IMO. But now it should be load him up, and he should commit to no backward steps.

It's amazing what a difference adding size AND class to the midfield did for the midfield group.

Even though you wouldn't say Dawson is massively strong, you say him walk through tackles, stand up and deliver the ball. His disposal also must be respected. This changes the opposition defensive setup and opens up opportunities for others

Your listening to the anti-JHF Media, led by King, who have continually pushed a narrative this year to discredit JHF.

JHF's presented himself excellently, given his serious op in the off-season .....and for a poorly presented Mid, he's getting the 2nd most CBA's ....that'll increase during the year, as he's being eased in

View attachment 1647229

Rozee and JHF kept Port in that game last night really. SPP as well, but their senior midfielders in Boak, Wines and lycette were shown up by that young group. All 17 other sides would be more than happy to build their midfield around Butters, JHF and Rozee going forward, seriously talented group.

Having said that, Rachelle has been absolutely amazing stepping into the midfield this year. I doubt even our recruiters would have dreamed that he would be playing full time A grade mid this early in his career.

If you disagree then I am on the money with the call. He did some really good things but David Mackay would have taken that hit from PP evert day of the week. If he is going to shirk contact, he can go, can't pick and chose.

The stats back what I'm seeing though so......lol.

I agree. Sometimes we just have to trust the coaches, as they see the players so much more than we do. Holding back Doedee and Walker really helped develop them as players, whereas throwing Rachelle into the midfield this early is bringing the best out in him.

there is no hard and fast rule, it is player dependent, and I have no problem with how they are developing Tillthorpe. If last night was anything to go by then the confidence he got from his breakout trial in the reserves 2 weeks ago was pivitol.

You could question Mackay's decision making, size, skills....but not his courage

I stand by my statement Ken Hinkley can't coach. Am I slowly converting you footy4ever?
Lol. I know he’s no wizard. Why can’t you see Ports list is bog standard ordinary? Players failing all over the ground. He’s done a reasonable job with the most overrated list in the comp.

He’s an ordinary coach, but the list is worse, regardless of what the fools on here keep spewing.

Am I slowly converting you? 😉

Mitch Hinge should stay in defence.

Makes our defensive system so much better.
Who would have thought swapping Hinge for Dawson would give our team a better balance... ;)

A few thing I liked..

Max’s courage and composure with ball in hand. Just doesn’t get rattled!

Hinge’s chase down on Finlayson.

Rachele mouthing off to Rozee on the boundary line.

Rankine reminding the ferals that Adelaide’s Oval is our house.

Pedlar is a bull, can’t wait till he builds a midfield tank.

Filthy getting some confidence in his marking ability and his ground ball work is elite for big unit.
