This board is hilarious. “Nicks was out-coached”, “Dawson has been found out”, “Rachele is selfish”, “Rankine’s miss cost us the game”. Blah blah blah.

It’s really simple. There’s more to like about that loss than dislike.

We convert those set shots and we would be talking about how far this young and exciting team has come and where it can go.

Take a chill pill ffs.

There can be more to like about a loss then dislike (and I kind of lean in that direction, but only because we're just kicking out of the tanking phase of a rebuild), and still saying "Nicks was out-coached" is true.

They're not mutually exclusive.

Yeah we're 4-3.

If you're serious, ok.

I did not mean a literal "message", like via the runners.
There's no question he went defensive when they cut the 14 points to 7.
A soon as that happens, players stop doing what they did to get 14 points up in the first place.

Hey, maybe with a minute to go, stack the backline and play keepings-off.

It's timid football. Gutless.
I'd prefer them to lose by 2 or 3 goals by attacking than by a point by retreating.
We were far too defensive too early in that last quarter

I think Nicks should put a hold on the players over the top goal celebrations until they have strung together a number of good wins against good opponents, and even then keep the celebrations in check.

I think you’ll find a lot of them have been pulled into line. Tex and Izak used to do a hand/foot routine… that stopped after Nicks mentioned something about it in the presser. Rachele will follow.

Our midfield is still a concern, but we're doing better than I thought we would be.

We're playing better football than I thought we would be, but our midfield isn't going to get us to consistent Top 4 football. It must be improved as a matter of priority - and by that I don't mean improvement from within. We must trade and draft midfielders.

It is. 32-15
From memory we’ve had a couple of purple patches against them but they’ve dominated the match up.
How many have we lost by single figures? This is 3 I can recollect that we have lost in the last minute of the game (Tarrant, Anthony and tonight).

Doedee's HTB that resulted in a goal against in the third term really s**t me too.

Just a bloke off on his Sunday stroll with no awareness whatsoever.
Had a good game aside from that.

Doedee has always been a moment too slow getting rid of the ball. Usually doesn't matter aside from him getting dumped when he doesn't need to be.

Yet we just lost to the flag favourites by a point and our losses so far are self inflicted.
Sam, with respect, how is that going to make any of us feel better about tonight?

Collingwood @ full strength might be ONE of the Flag faves, but this side was missing a star in Pendlebury, coming off a hard, emotionally tough Essendon game after a 5-day break.
They did enough to win that game by 4 or more goals at least, but shat the bed when they just had to convert their chances.

I agree that the loss was self-inflicted and it's Nicks' greatest challenge to get the boys beyond their current mindset.
Mental toughness does not come from ability, but from determination.
I thought Milera was awful again; I just don't know why there are so many Milera fans in here --- he always goes missing when things get hard. But it's not just Milera; it's a quality that several of them lack

His 24 touches and 15 intercepts weren't enough for you? Clearly one of the better players on the ground. This game was heated and both teams under pressure all day, he had like 2 seconds to dispose of it and was tackled after about 1.8 seconds.

He was good overall but that was a bad lapse of concentration from a senior player.

We need to eliminate those moments to take the next step.

It was one moment in a game with a lot of mistakes from both teams. No player is faultless. Might as well pick out a million other HTB decisions from the game where a player hesistated for a millisecond. Doedee was clean all game and marking very well, clearly in our best players. We caught a few Collingwood players that hesitated in our F50 too.

Has anyone mentioned the s**t awful sympathy/mercy free handed to Frampton that got the pies started with his goal? We were getting butchered up forward non stop and had way worse done to us in ruck, but Pies get the soft gimme goal starter.
Not to mention immediately prior to that we had a mark disallowed and then the pies got a charity free kick. Then Frampton another and goal.
