Guys like CEY, Doedee, Hartigan, Greenwood, Seedsman really stood up tonight.

This. Our 2nd tier all grew enormously tonight, by far the most exciting part of the game for me. To do that without the Crouches, Douglas, Lynch gave me a slight growth down below....

Only one that has been woeful so far is Atkins.

Should the AFL have a card system like soccer or a Sin bin?

Well thats another good option yes. Though it may have some contention, the umpire has to make a call on the spot unless it we had a system where it was sent upstairs. Surprising how easy it is to come up with improvements to the AFL really.

Credit to hamish, thought he made a mistake picking Doedee over Burton.
Where is marty36 ...

Surely time time to concede we have a gem in Doedee... no matter Burton's career.

CEY responded to his sloppy, fumbly 1st half last week.

He has blown the cobwebs out quickly coming back from injury. Good to see. If he can maintain this it would be great and hugely strengthen our midfield stocks.

Likewise Greenwood, into last weeks game underdone. Was a stirring performance.

Really want CEY to make it but he made some clangers last nite including handing Dusty a goal with a poor handball.

"Greenwood had a more settled preparation than this time last week when he was a late inclusion for Sam Gibson, who injured his hamstring during the club's final training session in Melbourne on Thursday afternoon.

Coach Don Pyke and head of football Brett Burton urgently tried to get in contact with Greenwood to tell him he might be required to face Essendon.

"I was having a nap and I woke up to about 10 missed calls from Pykey and Bird (Burton) and Emma Bahr, our welfare manager and I called them back, half asleep, asked them what's going on," Greenwood said.

"They said ‘we need you to get on a flight by 7pm, Sam's pulled up a bit sore, he'll have a scan in the morning, but you might be playing’.

"So I was like alright, I rolled up out of bed, got a haircut and I was on a flight."

The motto "next man up" seems to resonate with the AFC.

We've been thru so much misery but most of it was unexpected however feel the players perhaps realise that the GF was within their control unlike all the other issues. They let themselves done, they let the club down and let the supporter base down.

I'm expecting we will only get better and just look out they want to redeem themselves and no distractions by the flog media will stop it.
I think back to Bickley's comment "Ifs, but and candied nuts" in a presser when he coached us.

It seems to be a value that is part of our club culture.

That's the issue, making the call on the spot. Imagine a gun player being 'sin binned' then being found not guilty?

Can we have that Jenkins every week?

One thing I have noticed in the last two rounds is sides making the loose men intercepted players accountable. Geelong did it with Lever and we did it with Rance. Rance was only effective during a period in the third when Jenkins played off him or was Rucking.

Rance really is a poor one on one defender and we exposed this.

Given this trend it could be a good thing we ain't paying Lever $850k a year now. I can't wait to see what Tex and Jenkins do to Lever.

If we're six goals in front with five minutes to play, Pykey can we swap Harto and Tals up forward for a few minutes to see if they can get some marks and goals one on one just to troll lever!? :D

That Jenkins wins us the 2017 premiership

I’m more concerned about Gov than Atkins and Betts at this point. Betts handed off a heap of goals and Atkins was 2nd or 3rd in total distance covered during the game (15kms+ I think) so his work rate is there (I think his role is that release player on the opposite side of the ground that isn’t getting used - not to say he isn’t out of form). But Gov just seems out of sorts. Wonder if Lynch not playing is throwing him off a bit.
Gov had a few almost moments. Give him some time he'll come good I reckon, he's quality.

Should Nankervis get looked at for kneeing Crouch in the back? Could put it down to him being a big, clumsy doofus, but it didn’t look great.
I thought that was the least likely of the 3.

I didn't realise the Caddy one was a handball and not a mark. He mite have a slim chance of getting off because of that.

Edwards into tex is the interesting one. Someone said edwards had the ball. No he didn't have control of it. He goes to reach down to pick it up but doesn't complete it and then loses / goes past it, into tex and into tex's head specifically. One could argue tex wasn't affected by it. But then neither, as it turns out was merrett. Only thing that will save him was that it looked a lot more like an attack on the ball than the body compared to douglas. That's what they'll say anyway. Though douglas knew merret was going to beat him to the ball so he either had to tackle to dislodge it or bump to do the same. Either way he was also trying to win the ball.

The fact that it’s even a discussion that Caddy might get a week for legitimately trying to intercept a handpass - I would be livid if one of our players got done for this. NOTHING in it.
Look at Fog's late hit on Caddy ==> 50m ==> goal. If it was high, he'd get 2 games for it (was from behind).
I'm not sure about Caddy's hit on Dmac. It looked late, was round arm more than an attempted ball-punch, certainly careless, and might have been payback. Mackay was taken off, did not return, potential concussion. My guess is Caddy will cop one game.

Just had a look on replay. Clumsy but he should be fine. He could have done a lot more damage but he pulled back

Fogerty is a ready made player. He might need to tone down the aggression though.
No, no, no, and no. What he needs is to learn to control it better, not tone it down. That kind of firey and competitive attitude is what can set him apart as one of the best key forwards in the league. I'd go so far as to say it benefits the team as a whole, boosted team spirit and made them more combative.

More please.
