Truck - another really solid performance leading defence. Yeah I know I know, he's not fast, but speed isn't everything. He absolutely pantsed Tarrant last night - to the the point that Tarrant was subbed before three quarter time. And yes I know that it was Tarrants first game back but still... A great game from the general. Scottie as well - please could someone put up his stats from last night? Heard them coming home in the car and want to make sure I heard it right - they were damn good if I did!!!

Good - the fact we did this coming back from Perth on a six day break.

Good 2 - the posters on the kangaroos board were saying before the game that we have an overrated midfield. Who's overrated now?

My thoughts re the Perth game exactly. I thought we would struggle considering the way we faded in the second half against Freo. Some players looked jaded. Jenkins, Danger but overall looked fresher than North.

I thought bannister was umpire number 2.

Ps Apologies to banister as was fleer who was the dodgey umpire. Never heard of him before & hopefully never see him against at a crows game!

I'm usually the last person to criticise umpires - they do a tough job - but last night was a shocker. Umpire 2 - was terrible - had trouble working out if he was biased or just completely incompetent.

Umpires please note:

1. You are there to be seen and not heard - stop being so chummy with the players - It gives a strong perception of bias! If you need to talk to players use numbers or at worst surnames and stay perceptually distant. You are not there to be friends.
2. You are not there to be the stars of the show - if you are, then you are doing a really bad job.
3. Stop undermining the goal umpires with these stupid Goal reviews - they make you both look really foolish when it comes back 'inconclusive - umpires call' and ruins the games momentum. It also undermines fans and players confidence in the umpiring. Fans and players aren't stupid - we know occasional mistakes will be made - it's the nature of the game - but by using crap technology you are simply undermining confidence in your role (essentially saying we need a back-up) and causing confusion. Either set up the technology properly or don't use it at all. You are professional umpires - so I'd prefer you don't use it at all.
4. You know that silver thing in your hand? It's called a whistle. There's also a rule called holding the ball - learn it love it. If any player gets hurt at the bottom of a pack (which are starting to look like dangerous scrums) because you've lost control it will be on your head.
5. Control the game - don't influence it.

Umpires like players need to start somewhere - we accept that - and that inexperienced umpires will probably make more mistakes. But last night was terrible. Even the North board is complaining about the standard of umpiring last night while at the same time acknowledging it was biased their way.

Rant over.

Ripping win, North are a decent side.

Love in particular Tex's efforts, just that bit of passion/mongrel/spirit has been sorely lacking in our games.

Was sitting on the wing and was quite drunk so can't comment too specifically on the game.

Good:

Intensity from the start. Not sure why this is so hard to replicate. North are a completely different team to Freo. Their pressure is no where near the same so I thought we might be in with a good chance.

Played well as a team ala the Collingwood game. So nice to watch.

Smith. Gun. I'm seeing what I was hoping to see last year before he broke his collar bone. So much confidence now it's great.

Sloane's work rate and marking. Ridiculous. Disposal a lot better thus week.

Jacobs. Having an unbelievable year. What is most impressive is his work when the ball hits the ground. Getting a lot of clearances.

Otten. I think he's been great coming back from injury. Solid as ever in the air.

Pods

Kerridge. Knows where the goals are.

Jaensch

Thought Reilly was pretty good.

Thommo. Prob up there with Smith and Jacobs as our best this year.

Bad:

One of the worst umpiring displays I've ever seen. Completely one sided as well.

Laird was schooled by Harvey. Harvey not too damaging, but Laird got lost time after time. Good lesson for him though.

Do you think?

Yeah he was solid ....but he also wasn't exposed due to all players around him playing well

For those there was Otten playing CHB on Black ....Talia at FB?

Was Rutten FB or in a pocket?

Free kick count was 20-17 to North, I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

Intensity is the key. When they run and look energised, we're a totally different team. heck if we don't show up next week i'll go insane.
It was the numbers ....it was what was awarded and what was missed ....which was obvious even to me :straining:

Point WW - it was a good game without passengers last night - but I've also seen the way that defence falls apart when he's not there. And we've had a couple of examples of that this year. And I say again, while Talia is technically superb and AA in the making (under Trucks tutelage I might add), his leadership is not there - yet. So yes I think so - that's absolutely how it looked at the game - Tarrant being subbed is fairly conclusive IMO.

I NEVER COMPLAIN ABOUT UMPIRING ....................................................TILL NOW

Dumbest display & one-sided i have seen all season
Was poor but was only 1 of the 3 umpires that was the issue.

Good: watching Reilly beat Swallow in a chase for the ball half way through the 2nd quarter.
Made me think what vb's pace will be like when he returns from achilles injury.

I think people are jumping the gun a bit by writing off Jenkins. I'm curious to know where he's been the past month, but let's not forget he had a ripper month before that, where some people were calling him the inform tall of the competition.

He had a terrible game tonight but still kicked 2 goals
Yeah, I don't get the lack of love for JJ.

Kicked two goals on an off night.

He did pull back from a couple of contests which is unlike him. Carrying an injury or just down of some confidence?

End total means little, most of the time. The fact that North had the first 5 frees in the first quarter and the first 6 frees in the last quarter, indicates the umps' mindset. Over-correct and Umpire against the crowd in the first quarter, and in the last, do everything possible to make a game of it. They were truly shitful.

My issue is we can't even get a positive free kick count at home.

No wonder we find it hard to get ump love away from home.

Last night if we play like that we're as good as any side in the AFL

List shit ....my arse ......only the pessimists on this board (EC) can't see the glass half full.

Henderson, B.Crouch & cameron still to come back in .........Essendon, Port, GWS, Hawthorn .....have to win 3 out of 4 games to have a decent chance & make up for the easy losses so far.

That's a lot of speed to come back in ......and there's no need to rush them in until they're ready

Dangerfield was again ordinary ....particularly defensively ......not sure he has a defensive side to his game, but his positioning and defensive intensity is ordinary.

Kerridge ......twice he has been played as a forward and twice he's kicked a bag ..... a natural forward and superb finisher

Walker ......gee he's a magnificent & natural CHF .......we really miss that tall marking FF ....Jenkins FFS start playing like a 105kg player and not an 83kg rookie :(

Douglas ....hasn't hit top form yet

Jeansch .....he's still one of the dumbest footballers i've seen and i was one who said he was a list clogger & the selectors were stupid for playing him ......i was wrong!

Jacobs ....in superb form and better than 2012

Thompson ....unfortunately at his age he's still the barometer of the teams performance ......in absolute standout form

Sloane ....he's all heart & guts .....he worked his arse off....if he could just get his disposal up to scratch ...unfortunately our midfield has the worse collective disposal in the AFL & the best collectively at getting the ball

JPod ......Yes Elite Crow JPod can take and was known as a contested mark

Smith .....WOW this kid has elite talent, speed , and a low penetrating kick that is just a weapon

Crouch .....just didn't get up to speed with the game and was ineffectual

Mackay ....:D

The defenders followed their opponents so no real set position. However talia mainly fb. Otten & rutten floated between hb & fb line.

Otten has added stability & poise to our backline. He may not be quick but he smart & rarely gets caught or wastes possession.

Danger was often used a kick behind the ball which I don't mind til he gets his body right. Ie keep him out of the packs.
