The lack of taps to a mid- is worrying, not Jacobs' fault, maybe lack of movement as you say.
The Crouch brothers' high possession count is not the key factor --- it's their contested possessions, and efficiency, that have the most impact. CPs rough up the opposition and leave them feeling beaten in the contest. Efficiency means finding a teammate with the disposal and not bombing to a multiple-player contest.
During the Melbourne game I thought Jacobs was confused as to where the game was being played. He seemed to think the game was being played at the MCG, such was the regularity with which he tapped the ball straight down the throats of the players wearing white.

I thought through the 2 week losing streak Jacobs persistence in tapping to Sloane was super frustrating. The amount of time I saw Atkins standing 3 meters clear behind the pack and Jacobs just completely ignoring him so tap to Sloane with 1-2 players draped over him was doing my head in.

If teams continue to not man up Atkins we have to start using him better. Top end speed, top end skills, and not afraid to take the game on.

Curtly out for a few weeks. I wonder if someone like Greenwood might cease an opportunity to lock down his spot before the bye round. I like his intent around the footy especially in the centre bounces, seemed to be sticking it to Sloane's tagger better then most when he was in there too.

The question is who comes in this week. Thomo, Menzel, Knight, Wigg or Jenkins. Tough call

They're not manning him up because that way they have an extra player out the other side of the stoppage.
And if we're getting smashed getting the ball (and when we are, we are) that's to their advantage. And that's the model to stop us - more players around the ball, don't let the crows clear it, because we're so offensively set up around stoppages, we're totally out of position when we lose it in the middle.

Or none of the above...

David Mackay has clearly proven he's back in form by being the travelling emergency so he'll be in the mix too

Laird said it was the slipperiest game he had ever played. Couldnt get the hands or ball dry. Ground was very dewy, and humidity was horrible. Might explain the fumbles?
same conditions for everyone and the Brisbane players were a lot cleaner early.

granted they probably get more practice in it, but it can rain in September and we need to be sharper in less than ideal conditions. Not being able to adapt to poor conditions is half the reason we got annihilated in Tasmania.

He showed good form in back slapping and drink carrying. Showed quickness and good hands in the massage stakes

I love the rat but Atkins speed isnt anything special. His major weapon is kicking accuracy and smart ball use. He generally doesnt take on opponents in a foot race unless hes already got an advantage. Its not a problem really because if his opposition outspeed him hes knows exactly how to spot up a short kick or flick out a handball to get himself out of jail. I'd say his ability to use his skills to offset his physical limitations is what makes him a good player.

Some of his kicking has been shocking lately. Needs to clean it up

Also has great agility in traffic as another skill

Some of his kicking was shocking last year as well. To me, it's specifically when he pulls his kicks. There is nothing wrong with the kicks, but they seem to go lace out to the oppo. When he kicks freely and long, there is no problem. The worst examples are when he is running through the 50, where he should be kicking the goal, but laces out the defender in the square. Puzzling!

I feel he gets too cute with his kicks at times.
