Riley Knight understands point 3. Drew a couple of nice frees for too high by doing the limbo yesterday.

Yeah, look, I'm not saying certain individual players don't know how to do it... I'm saying as a team, it's not an agenda item.

If it was we wouldn't get reamed 21-11 in a contest we dominated for three quarters.

How many ****ing times does it have to happen...

Why do we have to take the fault for this again?

And here I was told Otten couldn't play because he was way too slow
Andy's football I.Q. is probably only 2nd to Eddie on our list IMO. Smart footballer....bar for an atrocious run of injuries I believe he would have been a player I'd be confident we would be talking about in the same discussion as Roo, Macca, Ben, Nigel, Tyson, Mods and Goody at the end of his career.

I've gotta say that our pace is very exciting this year. And our structure actually looks better with 1 of the key forwards missing imo, a bit more mobile and unpredictable.
Anyone that still can't see why we traded Lyons and delisted Grigg only has to look at the style of football Pyke has us playing, even Derwayne, King and Roos were commenting on our speed and speed of ball movement during the coverage and it was the same last week.

I think tex might shade Andy, but he's up there.

What the actual ****?

You are absolutely bloody right. Think about all those times in years gone by when a hawks player would just punch eddie in the stomach and the umps would simply ignore it. you could see that the hawks were trying to pull the same type of stunts today, but the difference today was the crows ignored it and focused on the game. This approach showed a high level of maturity and determination, this is some thing the crows have been lacking for a long time.

And we're the far better team now

I outlined that it isn't entirely our fault, but some of it is.

Ok. I just wanted to give you the opportunity to state the case more compellingly, because whilst I'm sympathetic towards the view point that we as a club arent ruthless enough, I'm far from convinced in this instance.

There was nothing we could have done differently about the Puopolo decision yesterday. There was nothing Hawthorn did to achieve it.

So
Burton had a very good game, he will be out of contract this year maybe we will swap Doedee and a first for him

2 x firsts, sound familiar
Sounds ****ing stupid

Wow I thought Lynch had a stinker but he managed 31 disposals. What game was I watching?

Don't usually post on here but why not! We're a few changes and a year or two from being a powerhouse of a team.

  • Brown = 6/10 (Didn't do anything special but held his own and didn't make any monumental mistakes. Didn't think he had the best of games against GWS but was solid yesterday. Still only a young bloke and is clearly best 22.)
  • Talia = 8/10 (Absolute gun but think he could take his game to another level and be that Rance-like player who takes the game on more, from a offensive point-of-view. Don't get me wrong though, was great yesterday!)
  • Laird = 7/10 (Didn't have as much of it yesterday but reliable as always. Has the best 20-40 metre kick in the 22 and very rarely misses a target by foot.)
  • Otten = 7/10 (Still question marks on his physical attributes, in particular his agility, but what he lacks in agility and speed he defintely makes up for in football IQ. Smart footballer that reads the game well. Also showed that he can be used in multi positions that will help him keep his position in the 22.)
  • Hartigan = 5/10 (I love the way Hartigan goes about it but always makes mistakes when it matters. He's fine as our 2nd KPD but would prefer him never to kick the football again, give the hands off to Smithers, Brown and Laird.)
  • Smith = 6/10 (I never used to see Smith as an extremely great 1-on-1 defender but this year (and probably last year as well) he has added this skill to his bow. Again, not an extraordinary game by any means but reliable as always.)
  • Cameron = 8/10 (Hits the ball extremely hard and has improved his field kicking out of sight in the last year or two. If he found the pill 5-10 more times yesterday there was nothing stopping me from giving him 10/10.)
  • Crouch = 6/10 (Thought he was a bit quiet yesterday but still offered that in and under work rate that we need from him. Question marks over his kicking from me still.)
  • Atkins = 6/10 (Not his biggest fan but has started the season off brightly. Loves the outside ball (which is why he's in the team) but would love to see him put his head over the pill here and there. Needs to improve his 1-on-1 contested plays to be an A-grader.)
  • Milera = 5/10 (Didn't really stand out yesterday but only young and will be a very good player. Whenever he got the ball yesterday he seemed cool, calm and colected.)
  • McGovern = 7/10 (He's a very lucky man he's getting the opposition's 3rd KPD. Although I rate him highly and he's still a kid, I think he could struggle against the best in the competition. Was good yesterday but had patches where he went missing.)
  • Lynch = 8/10 (I see this bloke as the most in-flexible bloke in our team. He plays the role given to him to perfection; however, play him in 20 other positions on the ground and he turns to s&it. Played fantastic yesterday.)
  • Betts = 7/10 (Flashes of brilliance that only Eddie can do. Went missing in patches yesterday, just like McGovern. Still a good small forwards game.)
  • Walker = 7/10 (Couple of strong contested possessions and his wide array of skills makes him a valuable contributor to the team. Still think to this day that he'll never be as good as he ways pre-knee injury.)
  • Jenkins = N/A
  • Sauce = 9/10 (Stood up against inferior ruckman. Needs to do this more often against teams that don't respect us and play spuds like Vickery in the ruck.)
  • Douglas = 2/10 ("We're a few changes away from being a powerhouse of a team" - The game has passed Richie and his time is up unfortunately. Have enjoyed watching him over the last decade but we have enough mature players in the team now for him to be dropped and gone from our best 22. I hope he proves me wrong. Thanks for your efforts over the years!)
  • Sloane = 9/10 (SUPERSTAR!)
  • Knight = 7/10 (Showed composure and patches of brilliance, puts his head over the ball and can be used in outside and inside roles. Versatile player that can be used in multiple positions. Will get better with more consecutive games.)
  • Kelly = 3/10 (His kicking action scares me to death. Was caught out in multiple contests yesterday. Needs dropping and continue to refine his game in the SANFL. Only a young blood so can still see a future at the club but needs to be omitted for Lever.)
  • Mackay = 7/10 (The whipping boy! Before half time he done nothing. However, proved to be the match-winner somewhat with these important three goals. The jurys still out on Mackay but at his age he is arguably in his 'prime' and he has played a solid first two games so until he plays crap I'm happy for him to be in the best 22.)
  • Hampton = 7/10 (You can see this bloke will be good when he gets upto AFL speed (if he isn't already). Be patient with him.)

We're pretty powerful right now.....We will be right in contention at the pointy end... will we fold like years gone or will we embrace the challenge in 2017 and not choke if we are in a position to control our destiny?

The 2 players i have highlighted. I thought Brown was instrumental yesterday. Rioli normally gets off the chain against us and Brown shut him down superbly. Deserves at least an 8, if not a 9 IMO (he kicked as many goals a Cyril!)

Hartigan was also really great yesterday. Always make mistakes when it matters? No. He sometimes makes mistakes. And i don't remember him turning it over at all yesterday? I reckon he's a better kick than Talia (comparing KPD here)

Just my 2 cents

I think the best part about Mackay's game for that no one has really mentioned, was his gut running.

Year after year this bloke finishes in our top 3 for the 3km time trials and etc, but yet he never has seemed to be able to use his engine to his advantage.

Similar to Knight in the second half of last week, he ran his absolute socks off in the 2nd half of the game and was greatly rewarded with 3 goals. He got himself into some good positions and worked his ass off and deserved all 3 of them.

This is what we really need to start seeing more of from him. Yes his first half was really poor, but by God did he put in the work and grind out a brilliant 2nd half.

Even that kick from just outside 50m would be usually be out of Mackays range. Is this a contract year? :p

And what those stats don't tell you is how many two on ones he either won or broke even. He controlled CHF for us after quarter/half time.

Agree wholeheartedly.

The mark he took straight after Jenkins left the field was a real statement of intent, both to his team, but also to his opponents.

His direction of traffic was wonderful, too.

What I noticed yesterday and even last weeks from a Hawks perspective, they have shot themselves in the foot in the short term trading out Mitchell. Whilst run and carry is an important factor in breaking zones, so is the 30 metre kick and Mitchell could do that brilliantly of either foot. Spot up a target 30 metres away and get them to run 10 and kick it and you break the zone everytime.

What they have replaced him with are two great players but neither is a two sided player like Mitchell and neither seems confident to hold the ball a touch longer and hit a target by foot

Not too far off that after playing 2 of the better teams in the comp. Would be a great record to hold if it happened

Will put GWS in that category.

Reckon Hawks might do what happened to Brisbane in 2005 - Brisbane fell off a cliff, they were competitive earlier in that year but towards the the end of that year, their stars had lost interest. Reckon the same thing will happen to Hawthorn. Might be wrong but watch it unfold.

And after his game yesterday it may still happen :thumbsu:

Otten is an outstanding footballer and I'm very happy we've been able to throw him back into the side. He deserves to stay for the time being, and hopefully can build further into form

Everyone we've recruited has played an AFL game at some level I'm pretty sure. Though some hadn't played many at all.
Very few draftees have.. unless they previously played for another AFL club. AFL is not a sport, no matter how much the AFL tries to convince us otherwise. AFL is the league, which is the sport's elite level of competition. The sport is Australian Rules Football.

Dumb post is dumb.

AFL DOES now refer to the sport itself, weather special butterflies like you like it or not.
