I don't agree with the Doedee suffering because of Dawson part. Between the two of them we should one of the better intercepting teams going around.

Doedee is just in some horrific form. He is under zero selection pressure which probably doesn't help and seems to think he can run through congestion.

Maybe this talk of him being a captain in waiting is going to his head.

He has spent half the season playing as a KPD and the other half essentially playing back pocket.

Hasn't had a go at his proper role this year. The role he was elite at.

Both him and Dawson can't both intercept the ball. Dawson is taking his role.

In terms of team balance, we need Dawson up the ground and Doedee in his more natural role.

It’s called talent

We could have Polly Farmer rucking and I’d still back Petracca and Oliver to get hold of us given they’re both top 5 maybe top 3 mids . Viney in some decent form too

Langdon hurt us more than anyone though

We would have got beaten by much more if Gawn / Jackson were playing

Delusional ? Touché

I'm not even blaming the ruckman, I specifically mentioned the way our mids are coached to play. You should try reading my post next time before responding. Even when our ruckman puts it down the throat of a mid, the result is still almost always a dump kick from the pressure area. The only mids we've had that could regularly end up forward of the pressure with ball in hand was Danger, through raw power, and Lyons. We're going nowhere until we start working out how to get our mids and those near the stoppage delivering forward properly.

So my complaint is that our coaches are stat focussed and have no clue that we get destroyed in the middle because of qualitative differential. Changing the ruckman won't change that issue. I only want ROB dropped to tune him up a bit and as another warning to likes of Smith, who's also underperforming against what should be his benchmark. And if we lose by 2 or 3 extra goals, having sent a message, big ****ing deal.

I think this is a very good point. Winning against a poor team like North Melbourne papers over cracks, and even being competitive against a better team. Yesterday really showed us who is up for the fight and who is just out of their depth. Rowe and Murphy were out of their depth. McNenry would also have been. Jones is borderline.
And the poor disposal skills of Laird and Keays- and Crouch - if he had played - can't be papered over in an elite environment.
In better news, Berry continues to step up, Soligo looked at home and Dawson is just amazing. And some ticks for Hinge who was encouraging, Fog until he was injured and Thilthorpe in the second half, who woke up when we put him on the ball.
I sit right on the boundary right in the middle on the eastern side and see lots of amazing close up play. It's very easy to see the difference in quality of players. The one that stood out the most yesterday was Langdon. Creative, aware, highly skilled, fast - and in the play and off the play. Let's get one of those!
Traded in for the princly sum of a 2nd rounder iirc and not on a heap contract wise. Shrewd business by the dees there

I agree 100% with this, but we're rebuilding, so nothing is lost adding him into the rotation for a few weeks to see what he has in there. Despite it being a bad move, I was happy that Nix actually tried to use him where he can directly impact scoring. I would have preferred we see him as a mid though, that's the area that needs immediate attention.

Nicks was a little inventive for a change but I can't bring myself to give hin a tick for making a weird change that didn't really pay off.
Surely you make the obvious choice/change first? Especially when there are other more suited candidates waiting in line for Midfield minutes.

I think Doedees and Smiths form has resulted in us putting our best player back to mop up and to use his elite disposal.

We have 2 key defenders in the past few weeks so there is no excuse for him not being able to play off his opponent and take some intercept marks. Like both May and Lever did for Melbourne.

Doedees disposal is too poor for him to be our main rebounding man in defence anyhow.

Did you watch the game? I did. The handballs were to advantage this week. There was only one instance where he put a player under pressure. He was much much better today.
I think the issue in the firsts is that we really can't afford to play him and Laird together. The mix looks better with only one of them and some more outside players. We could move Laird back to half back again I guess, but I think we'd need to bring in more speed into the CBA's to counter Crouch's lack of leg-speed.

After sleeping on it, we might not be a rabble but we are further back this year than last in the rebuild.
Nicks puts faith in the wrong players.
Our senior players - Smith, Doedee, ROB, Keays are shitting the bed.
Our youth are holding up best as possible.
Our defense is untrustworthy.
Our midfield are vanilla.

My expectations are probably way too high but so called professional footballers making junior football errors is so frustrating.

Plus selection is mind boggling.

I need to get used to us being sloppy. Thats the new norm.

I’m not blaming the ruckman either !

Agree , we have many holes in our list and another one is a ball user off half back while Dawson plays wing , mid ; etc

Problem with Murphy is how many bad games he's allowed to play in between his good ones.
I reacon most of the Newchurch detractors dont even watch the SANFL games..

They just read others bewildering comments of Newchurch and regurgitate it.

I’ve watched every SANFL game live this year and even watched replays of them as well.

Newchurch has been bloody good in 90% of them and, in the couple of games he’s been quiet in like yesterdays, he’s still managed to get involved and had a hand in numerous goal assists in those games.

How anyone can be looking at the return we have been getting from Mchenry, murphy, Rowe and, at times, Rachele as our small forwards this year and be thinking that we shouldnt give Newchurch a run yet is beyond me.

There is literally nothing to flipping lose from putting Newchurch in the side for a solid block of games in a row.

He shouldve come in for the West coast game.

Murphy should never play another AFL game for the club again.

Rachele looks completely lost at the moment

Mchenry aint a small forwards arseh*le.

Rowe.. i mean, if anyone wants to go on about a player that goes missing for long periods, look no further than little Rowe.

We are “supposedly” rebuilding.. yet the small forward on the list with a shitload of speed, x-factor, skill and goal sense cant get a run and instead we continue to play proven failures in front of him because he’s apparently not ready?.. fk me..

The sensible, proactive move would be to drop Doedee or Smith.

Smith is hugely off the boil , actually played like he was a rabbit in spot light . Zero composure yesterday like he’d never seen that much pressure in a game before

Given our small forwards have probably overtaken our midfield as our weakest line and Newchurch is in form I completely agree

No brainer

Rowe has been in pretty good form against the weaker sides but when the heat goes up like a high pressure game yesterday was he’s found wanting

Not enough speed , intensity , contest , tackle , brilliance

Very solid and clever when the game isn’t quite as hot
