Good:
Every time Pedlar attacks the ball. With a bit of injury luck, we have a left-footed Christian Petracca clone here. Maybe not the ceiling of Petracca, but even if he’s Petracca-lite, I’m all about it. The one-handed pickup and goal in the first qtr was something that I don’t believe anyone else on our list could’ve pulled off from that position, under that pressure.

Milera - hands up if you saw “Wayne Milera being the leading disposal winner for either side today at the 3/4 time siren” coming? Nah, you didn’t. Fantastic game from Wayne, who was clearly told “perform or you’re dropped next week”. He answered the call, and this, combined with Parnell’s fantastic performance, now has the selectors scratching their heads and wondering how the hell they can squeeze Murray back in against the tallest forward line in the league.

Brodie Smith - his best game for the season IMO. Attacked everything, mostly used it well, kicked a lovely goal, and there was a kick around the corner in the first qtr that hit Keays on the tit that only a handful of players on the planet were capable of pulling off. 3 Brownlow votes for Brodie today I suspect.

Tex - annihilated one of the best defenders in the game in Wilkie. Vintage performance, and his conversion was first class too. 2 Brownlow votes.

Parnell - slotted in seamlessly. I have no idea who will be dropped for Murray next week, but it’s a disgrace if it’s Parnell. Needs to play every week.

Murphy - one of the best games of his career. Pressure, tackling, improved disposal, and even a set-shot goal. Brilliant game from a player whose career looked on the brink before Round 1 this year. 1 Brownlow vote.

Bad:
Doedee - pretty obviously leaving. On a day where we dominated, he found a way to continually be beaten. His mark attempt (instead of spoiling like 100% of other AFL players would have) 2m out from the Saints goal which directly resulted in a goal was just ludicrous. He also fell over 8 times for no reason again. This is a distracted player (by his own admission). Just tell everyone at the club you’re going, play out the season, and move on. I don’t see it as a terrible thing. He has some really good qualities as an intercept defender with a huge amount of courage, but to be blunt, he plays the easiest position on the field, and we’ll be fine. We have Parnell, Worrell, Murray, Butts and Michalanney as a really nice defensive core for the next 8 years.

Rachele’s repeated non-efforts. When a team performs to this level, and there’s a 100% chance of a key player (Murray) returning next week, you don’t want to stand out as putting in less effort than your teammates on multiple occasions. He’s also missed about 15 of his last 20 regulation set shots at goal, which is ridiculous for a player with his skill level.

The disposal of Dawson and Sloane all day - pretty gross, even when not under pressure.

All in all a very nice win. Fascinating to see who will make way for Murray next week. Milera and Parnell were the two leading contenders, and both had career games today. Against a forward line featuring JUH, Naughton and Lobb, we simply aren’t going small again (ie Butts is NOT getting dropped), so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Parnell be extraordinarily unlucky to miss out, or maybe we drop Sholl for the extra tall, or even give the youngster Michalanney a well-earned rest.

Drop Doedee.
Bad
- Can Scotty Burns get across to Doedee to keep his feet in a contest

It doesnt even need to be in a contest. He spontaneously loses his feet every game. And it costs us every game.

Smith bog. What a gun performance. Has really picked up his game as the season has gone on.

Ground ball gets and midfield stoppages dominant. Should be against the Saints though. You win games when this happens.

Pedlar my favourite player. His inside game is immense. Goes incredibly intense at the contest. Just so good to watch and you know he's probably gonna win the contest.

Parnell. Love this guy. Wish he was a little bit bigger. Very natural footballer and an asset to have distributing the ball.

Milera

Tex

Hinge and Butts really good defence. Doedee as well.

Dawson and laird. Soligo much better. Good mid performance

Pedlar should be getting bursts in the middle in every game. I really hope we can get him to a point where he's fit enough to play as a full time mid. I think that's the plan long term but it's been a slow burn due to injuries. Imagine Pedlar's talent combined with the fitness to gut run eg. Keays. That would be a fun player to watch.
We drafted that player a while ago.

Ned McHenry coming on with only 20 odd minutes of game time and having 13 disposals and kicking a goal as the sub. Almost the perfect sun choice with his energy and aggression towards the ball and ball carrier.
He was great, unlucky not to be in the firsts, along with Worrell and Cook, and whoever gets dropped for Murray. Good problem to have.

Good: No major stuff ups in the box today. Happy with that. WD Crows.

Bad: 2nd qtr we let some bad habits creep back in (footskill and first give backwards) but were able to clean that up again in the second half.

If this becomes the minimum standard from here in then finals could be on the cards.

Who comes out for Murray , can’t drop Milera, Sholl or Parnell after that.

Do we rest Sloane and shuffle the side?

Good teams have players unlucky to be dropped. I’d imagine it’ll be Parnell or maybe Hinge to wing and Sholl the unlucky out. I don’t see us resting Sloane, he’s back on the midfield and Nicks won’t be reducing our experience levels.
