Dodongo is craving a big juicy steak now

Just rewatched the Carlton game and two improvement areas really stood out.

1. Dev Robertson’s disposal was quite poor and he needs to improve on this against Collingwood. He applied great physical pressure and he had no problems getting the ball, but he often turned it straight back over.

2. Brandon Starcevich needs to think harder and play smarter. Against Carlton he gave away a pointless 50 metre penalty in the first quarter (goal Carlton) and in the second hit Cripps high to give away a free deep inside 50 (goal Carlton).

Both Robertson and Starcevich deserve to be in the side and they are both valuable players. If they can improve on their performances against Carlton, it is going to really help.

Anyone know what time they train today?

Who do we bring in if heaven forbid Lincoln McCarthy doesn't get up for the game?

Shadeau Brain likely the only one who could come in new... from inside the current best 22 Bailey, Robertson, Zorko could play a similar pressure game to Linc, then the issue is who comes in?

Lyons/Gunston/Prior/Sharp/Tunstill? Or go taller and go with Fort.

Personally I would go with one of the younger guys as Lyons/Gunston would have a negative affect on our defensive pressure game.

Cockatoo would be an option although he played the later stages of the VFL season like he had a foot out the door

Wouldn't surprise me if it was Gunston

Mathieson. He will apply plenty of defensive pressure. We don’t need another tall in our forward line.

Hadn't thought of Matho, not all that keen on him coming in, he is an inside mid and we have that area of the game well and truly covered, also don't think he is fit enough to play a full game of elite defensive pressure.

Yep, no to Cockatoo, he was atrocious in the VFL finals.... I think you may be right re Gunston which I would be 100% against though.

On 360 last night Robbo says "Brisbane won 3 in a row, beating Collingwood in one of them". Idiot.
I assumed he meant 2023-2025?

Nah, that 50 is still BS. You can see in the replay afterwards on the telecast that the umpire is still in the process of blowing the whistle and signaling the offence when Starcevich contacts the ball in the background. It was just bang-bang, and unrealistic to require him to instantly freeze in position at that point.

It'd be a major shock if McCarthy didn't get up but do you think replacing him with the opposite of what he brings would make any sense ?

Agree 100%. Matho would be a huge mistake and won't happen..... not played an AFL game this year so why would you bring him in for the biggest game of the season when we know his tank is small & his disposal is average. The Pies runners would slaughter him.

Fingers crossed Linc is good to go as his contribution this year has been very important. Should he not get up, Prior for me would be the best choice.

Agree . Easiest to manufacture like for like of the others available. Probably play Ah Chee forward and Prior wing/back.

But after all Linc's been through I don't think he's missing this.

Cupboard is pretty bare, which is why I thought Mathieson, playing the Mitch Robinson role. Obviously we want McCarthy to get up.

Yep , trying to think if Prior would get the gig, but I think that may push Cal Ah chee forward, and I'm dead set against that.
Not because Cal is not a great forward , but his reliability in transition and defending is first class.
Hmm, not Cocka, maybe Forte or Gunners, don't think Harry is up for it just yet, Tunstell -same.
I think it would come down to Gunners and Prior ,it's a tough decision.
Either way I will be cheering.

Could this week drag on any more?
No it couldn't.
I've done all the work I have to do this week and only need to do a few quotes and order materials , so not exactly under tha pump.
So , arh , spending ime on bigfooty and checking for Lions stories all the time.
Wish I was down in Melbourne already, but don't get there until 7 tomorrow night.
Might go into the Gabba to buy a new Guernsey for the trip.

2 Lions legends in Chris Birchall and Grant Fagan.

Can't read the article but if this is what they got wrong it's hysterically bad.

Professional writer, professional proof readers and editors.

Having said that, if I was fagan I'd be holding that up and using it as motivation.

Time to put ourselves on the Afl map boys. We have to let them know who we really are. Jack, you need to win your battle and stick it to them in a post game interview.

It wasn’t that, so much. Cripps wasn’t going anywhere. He was stationary. The contact was nothing contact that really could only result in a free. Would have been better to try and wrap him up.

Happy to agree to disagree. Sadly the umpire thought it was a free. The fifty metre penalty we could have done without.

In his defence, Starcevich is one of the most underrated lock down defenders in the league. If he gets on top of his opponent(s) it is going to be a massive bonus for our chances.

On another matter, how many of our Brisbane based fans are coming down to attend the game?

Feels like heaps based off the finals tickets thread. Mainly just full of scalpers on new accounts now but if you go back about a week to the ballot you’ll see heaps of our regular Brisbane based fans got tickets.

The other amazing one re whistle is Berry. Watching the replay he blows the whistle after i reckon 10 steps. It’s so early. Immediately after carlton player appeals for it

I don’t buy certain umpires dislike certain teams. I do think they get biases against players. Joe hasn’t flopped for ages but couldn’t buy a free even when getting thrown aside on the weekend. I hope we sent some tape to the afl

I do think their interpretations can hurt certain teams or players

I also think there are certain players all fans dislike just because of how they officiate. Williamson and Stevic like to impose themselves. Always err on the side of paying frees, and get agrressive in their posturing. That puts all fans off

The Daniher one was unfathomable.

He's never going to get a free so just stop appealing for them and keep playing as if you're never going to get one. Maybe after a while the umpire sentiment towards him will change.
