Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

I just think many people look at draft picks like luxury cars. They’re shiny /mesmerising and appear to have excellent value…..until the car leave the dealership and the value begins to plummet.

Seems to be a constant that people think the untested player you could get with a draft pick is better value than one already in the system. 🤷‍♂️

I think Bruhn’s been played on the fringes by GWS and what I’ve seen him do when given a decent run is better than pretty much every kid on our list (which justifies the first round pick they used).

I said earlier I think Tom’s objectively worth 15 - 30 (which we won’t get) mainly because he’s rock solid but his best years are probably behind him. I fail to see what Tanner has/hasn’t done in 2 years at GWS to warrant a slump in value.
This is normal, with the draft there is an opportunity cost. This is because when going to the draft you have the opportunity to land an elite talent, look at Jackson for example, his value is up because he is a marquee player. By trading the pick you lose this opportunity, most players are just solid not elite.

Also clubs down the bottom would have a higher need to land the next Fyfe, Ablett, Dusty than clubs up the top who already have their core players and are just bring in solid talent to address needs. So this is why you see more top clubs trade 1st rounders for needs.

The best way to land elite talent is to get lucky at the draft because as we have seen clubs don't let go of these types easily. So by contrast if your just a solid player not elite (which most are) than your value is lower because the premium is no longer relevant.

Hartigan to St.Kilda actually makes sense. Dougal Howard and Josh Battle are fine, but they won't stop the massive forwards when the heat is on.

Looks like they still believe they have a shot at it in the next 2 seasons so are going after a mature, big bodied defender.

I think the arrival of GWS and GC has changed the way the other clubs approach drafting/trading a bit though . If we look at the AFLs strategy to get these teams competitive ASAP they were given so many draft concessions and then when they were finished these concessions they were then able to trade these for even more high draft picks , so if you recall the drafts from 2011 right through almost to 2019 seemed to be dominated by them at the high end . What we are seeing now is the inevitable overflow of talent from this that they just can’t possibly within the rules hang onto its a natural phenomenon. So far we haven’t had the stock to take advantage of this as much as some others . Hopefully this year though we dip our head in the trough a bit more too there are some young kids available every bit as young and as talented as those in the draft that are available hopefully our guys are smart enough to take advantage.

You’re crazy.

Bombers big footy around Parish is basically a mirror image of ours with Tom.

He's younger, but he has the exact limitations you and others reference with Tom.

180cm inside mid that's not damaging with the ball, isn't quick and doesn't defend.

Even with all that, he's costing a top 10 pick.

Yep, better off with Tom.

On another note, if we really wanted a 25-26 y.o inside mid, why on earth are we not trying to land Hopper?

The major difference is that Parish can take the ground ahead of him and has a more penetrating kick that Mitchell. That's if you have to compare the two. I don't believe either of them are our answer moving forward.

Bruhn exiting gws 😂

He'd cost pick 6. There's no chance he's with us.
In fact Dodo would want 2 firsts.

It’s only ever been mentioned in this thread I believe.

The Duursma wanting out has been mentioned by other fans as well, got no idea if he is leaving but seems to be a lot of smoke around him being unhappy

Duursma spoke upon arrival in Perth last night on 9 news denying any trade links following the report Port are meeting Rioli.
