Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

I don’t see the point in targeting Bowes simply for a salary dump. I hope it’s also with a view that he can push a spot in the best 22 straight away and that there is a role for him. He’s capable of playing as a defender and as an inside midfielder.

Could potentially release Hardwick to a mid/forward role. Pick 7 would be the cherry on top.

Even if Bowes is a box hill player for his entire time at the club if we somehow get pick 7 the trade is a massive win.

The ability to add two high end midfielders to our team is massive.

This. I don’t care if we have to put the Suns water runner on the list - if we end up with pick 7 then pull the damn trigger.

How much time in the middle can Bowes play?

Surely that is a huge focus for us and should be the 1st question asked of anyone we look at.

As for Hardwick elsewhere. Maybe for stints but he is the best small lockdown defender in the game.

The whole salary trade/dump option plus a pick is a fascinating development in trading.
So what happens if 6 clubs all say yeah we’ll take him and his salary plus pick 7?
Does the player essentially have the choice then of which club he goes to?
Or does the trading out club, ie Gold Coast, do a sweetheart deal on the side with the club they want him to go to..

Don't forget Morris,

Is Bowes a better option than our own Morris, who is on the rise IMO? Bowes as a depth player if it brings in pick 7 is definitely worth it.
Bowes has played good AFL footy for almost 100 games, before doing his shoulder last year he was playing at close to an elite level for his position in the first half of that season. Morris hopefully keeps building but Bowes right now is definitely a better option.

Haven't been reading this thread fanatically the past few days so apologies if it has been mentioned but isn't it funny the AFL are finally okay with these salary dump deals and coincidentally it is the same year the Suns seem to be completely cooked cap wise?

In the scenario where a club wants to salary dump one of their players wages then a lot of the motivation for the player to leave the club is coming from that club. The player in question is still contracted and has the right to refuse any trade no matter how favourable the trade terms between the clubs are. If their club is offering up something like pick 7 just to take their contract on then they're clearly quite keen to do a deal. So if there are 6 clubs interested in taking the same deal then the player is going to get their choice, otherwise they can just refuse and blow it all up.

I'm choosing to interpret this as a good sign from an ITK. Just let me have this one.
Sorry I have not heard a word on the matter. Just interested to know as I understand we have concerns about Bowes leg speed. If comparable or slightly less then go hard for Bowes, as someone else has said we are forgetting about Morris. I would love to get Dimma permanently further up the grade to take advantage of his grunt, smarts and beautiful kick.

Who cares about Bowes leg speed, it’s pick 7 we are after
Bowes is just an added bonus

Agree, but don’t care Cap wise. GWS cap is in a bad way. We all know Collingwood is. We have cash. Let’s spend it and if it is speculated we could end up with an additional first rounder, go hard is what I say.

All that said, I will ask.

Oh i totally agree, the AFL absolutely are years late on finally allowing clubs to do it and i hope we get involved.

Just pointing out that once again the AFL will do whatever they can to help the Suns, not that we didn't already know that.

Cats have shown interest in Bowes along with Saints , they wont be able to pay the contract to make that deal . Most clubs wouldnt be able too.

If thats on the table we do it , pay full whack and get it done .
Financially we are in the drivers seat
How you going mate? You seem to have a finger on the pulse of a few things, so do you know if there’s been any talking between us and Bowes?

It's going to be front and centre in the news cycle for sometime mate. There's a negativity over our club that will rightly take time to go away.

Like us as supporters, plenty wanting to tear up memberships, players will be absolutely horrified to read the allegations... it will factor in, it's human nature when you read yesterday to feel sick.

While that isn't untrue, why would actions from a different coaching staff a decade ago prevent a player from taking up a great financial offer at a rebuilding side?

Nothing I saw yesterday implicated anybody currently involved with the Hawthorn football club.

I'd find it strange if Jack Bowes was promised a spot in our 22 and turned it down because of the actions of a past administration.

There are many scenarios. I just hope we can exploit them without AFL HQ getting involved.

Don’t forget, Taranto and Hopper out of there already. Got to help their Cap issues.
Tops, question for you. Do you know if this salary dump the afl are allowing is limited to players having to move club or can teams simply pay other players wages for draft picks? For example, Hawks paying 2 years of Grundys salary at the Pies (allowing them to keep him) for there 1st?

Personally I think the club as a whole needs to own this mate, not push it onto a few individuals no longer involved.

My view is if Bowes had the same opportunity at another club, and HFC, this matters.

Different story if we're the only option available, but others will be in the mix.
