Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

We will be the youngest team in the comp by round 1 next year if we lose Mitchell as well. 4 plus 30s gone in 1 season plus a 29 year old. Could be a difficult year based on this. Having said that nobody is saying we shouldn't be going down this path even our mate Cornes in the media. Need to have patience next year if we look more off the pace than this year. Things should turn around by 2024 and if we get things right be right back into the thick of it by 2025 IMO in terms of finals.

It doesn’t matter whether we win 8 games or none next year.

I would rather win 0 but see quality youth develop, than win 8 with an ageing Gunston and Mitchell the standouts.

It's a balancing act as losing culture's are hard to rid, 5 of our last 6 seasons we've been 50-50 win loss or worse.

We do however need to find a way to get more talent in and work towards our next premiership team, it's so far off though that neither Gunston or Mitchell would have been part of it.

Lots of Ifs have to go right, but fingers crossed that's how it pans out for us.

9 spots to fill.
Amon, 4-5 draftees, 2 MSD
We will need to rookie list some mature players in the SSP.
Not quite.

After retirements, delisting and Gunston leaving, we currently have 36 players on the roster, if we include both Amon (a given) and Mitchell (not yet traded) in our current playing list

That leaves us 6 spots on our list (which excludes O'Hara and any other CatB rookies we might find)

Two yrs more of Gunna is just a suger hit , zero protein in it .
This way we truly bottom out and build properly , cap space and game time now open for other players to develop .
position our selves strongly for this draft and next .
Bowes must be got ( with pick 7)
Mitchell must get us 16 ( pick swaps involved )
6,7,16 this draft must be a focus .

A future pick for Gunna to match bid on McCabe .

All strong building blocks

we don’t build to compete, leave that to other clubs
We build to win flags !
We build to win FLAGS.

Am I the only one who feels gutted by Gunston leaving ?
If Tommy goes as well, we are bereft of leadership and probably doing a North next year.
I was gutted for an hour or so...

For the last couple of hours, my rational side has been in combat with my emotional/nostalgic side...and has started to get the upper hand.

No, you're not, but we're also not bereft of leadership, it's just much younger than we've had for some time.

Sicily, JOM, Breust, Moore, Lewis, Worpel, Chad, Morrison....

Yep and now look where we are now, apparently with a Sh!t load of $$ but can't attract nada... if we don't get Bowes then Hawks really need to rethink their strategy around the salary cap as its not translating into anything.. I rather go and spend 100% of the cap and be relevant off field then being irrelevant off and on field.
We just picked up Amon?

There is still significant experience at the club and most of the senior list will have 4+ pre seasons in them come round 1 next year.

The big watch now is Bowes + 7. We need to be bold.

A Combination of Bowes, McKenzie (6) & Jefferson (7j is tantalising, adding a Brayden George (20+) and all of a sudden the gaps in the team are going, going, gawwwnnnn.

Hardwick as well.

Not to mention CMac and Ward hardly looked like deers in the headlights this year - absolutely looked capable when playing seniors. It’s not as if they won’t be equipped to take on more next year.

I hate to be so desperate. But we do really need this bloody Bowes deal to go our way. It’s just so perfect.

Geez if Tom leaves as well we will struggle to pay the minimum cap ……. something is surely brewing. Re Rama I reckon he will not be that typical tall kid needing years to develop. He runs like the wind, big tank already, very good below the knees and athletic. I’m hoping the club will give him an opportunity somewhere other than in the ruck where he would get banged up.

Many of our youngsters showed a lot this year and they will only get better. So optimistic compared to only two years ago!

With Gunners and Co off the list, we’re primed to strike , we need to pull the trigger.

Bowes is not walking away from a 3 year deal worth say $2.3M - $900 year 1, 2 x 700.

The club has gotta pull the trigger. If he walks away from it, so be it.

Yup - have to buy pick 7. Players not on the Bowes money might be a bit miffed but they’d understand the reasoning and benefits behind doing it. Club should be doing everything possible to get that deal done if we can convince the kid to come here.
