Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

I agree, they're the two that excite me the most. Curnow is great obviously and exceeding the form I ever thought he'd return to but the price tag he'd warrant is offset by the risk of taking someone with his injury history on, and Mills is a Sydney academy lad. Not going anywhere.

Gresham and Himmelberg is our forward line covered, Himmelberg was a great tertiary forward to Cameron and he'd cover the Gunston role well. Gresham is a guy I've always wanted at the Hawks.
Gresham is exactly what the midfield needs. A break the lines midfielder who wins clearances and kicks goals. Him and Newcombe would be a lethal combo. Right age bracket to. Do what it takes to get him interested in coming to us.

I think realistically we aren't trading for any players with a first round pick.

Dream scenario would be Amon and Brayshaw as Free Agents and hit the draft again with top 6 pick. Another pre-season into our kids. Amon and Brayshaw are in our missing age bracket. Works perfectly.
I've only seen Brayshaw linked with Freo or staying at Melbourne, why would he come to a rebuilding team when he has two contenders willing to pay him the same money (Depending on which one gets Jackson)?

I'd love for us to get into the ear of Finn Callaghan. I'm still very bullish about him and can't seem to get on the park due to foot? injuries, something Peter Burge should fix.

There's some posters on the GWS board getting a bit antsy seeing as he hasn't signed a contract extension. If he can't get onto the park next year or gets held up by their midfield I'd love to see us all over him

Was a bit of talk around he wants to move back into the middle, which isn't easy at Melbourne.

He finished third in a Brownlow playing in his preferred position.

Recent talk has Cats very interested in him. So he gets both midfield and contending there.

Seems like Freo are all in Jackson, and not really a need for them as a mid you'd think.

We'd be a super slim chance, but just throw the cash at this guy. He's worth it.

My hope would be that we aren't offering him the same money and that we have learned the key to free agency is bidding over what the market would usually dictate for the player. It's not unheard of for athletes to leave a contender to go to a rebuilding side if the money talks - happens frequently with free agency in US sports.

So why hasn't he signed?
I'm thinking he's waiting on the Jackson call. He leaves, and he can get more at Dees. He's stays, well then he's out the door for mine.

He’s contracted to next year. That’s when this will all play out, unless they convince him to sign on.

That was my insinuation, if Jackson goes to Freo the Dees will re-sign him on the money he wants. If Jackson stays, Freo will have the cash with Lobb, Cerra, and Acres all being off the books from two years ago.

No point looking at FA lists in the AFL more than 12 months out, it isn't the NBA where you see lots of moves, 80-90% of the quality ones in the AFL either stay or move to the Cattery.

I have zero interest in Amon or Brayshaw. In my opinion they have peaked in solid squads. Solid players, but can they improve another 30%? Also both 26. Does it make sense to dump $600k-$750k on either of these players? Will it truly make a difference?

I believe we need to target 21-23 year olds. Similar to how we landed Gunston & Scrimshaw. There are plenty of quality young guys not getting a game.

If I was to pick one, it's Amon. Penetrating kick, also has attacking mindset.

If we are talking potential contender window (2025-2028) Morrison, Day, CJ, Bramble & Maginness would be my rotations across the wing.

Free agents don't cost draft capital though. We really can't afford to be trading first round picks for players who are currently not good enough to play at their present clubs. Plus our first and second rounders really need to be used at the draft this year I feel so I doubt we would have sufficient draft picks to trade for fringe players in their early 20s. I would rather take the punt on an 18-19 year old then end up with another JOR.

We need to build out the profile of the squad, yes Newcombe, Ward, Day, Butler, MacDonald, Moore and Lewis ect are the core of the squad going forward but a good list needs to be well rounded and we lack dpeth in that middle age profile(25-28 age bracket) we have Impey and Hardwick, that's a problem.

Here's a hypothetical;

Let's say we end up with pick 4 & GWS have pick 7.

Do you think a pick swap for Finn could interest GWS?*

Keep in mind, they might be looking at Grundy and will need a stronger hand.

*of course, there would be more to it, but has it pricked interest?

I'm all in on Amon. Would be a great get. Suspect it is going to happen

I'm even more all in on Brayshaw, just don't think it's likely.

I'm open to trade out first rounder, but it would have to be for an elite young player, and i'm not sure its happening.

I expect a very busy trade period for every club.

73 days til trade period

Agree with all but trading out first pick. We'll be taking that pick.

2023 I would be aiming for 9-11 wins, generally more consistent & competitive football.

Year two of a rebuild may not go that way, win-loss, mate... And that's fine so long as you can see the positive signs like we have this year.

Just keep building, keep drafting and keep patient.

We're on the right path. It just takes time even if every posts a winner (which is almost impossible).

Freo is a great example for mine of a recent rebuild I'd love us to emulate. For a few years win-loss wasn't reflective of the young talent you could see emerging... and then it clicks.

100% agree, not about win/loss

Give me competitive and accountable football and the rest takes care of itself
