No Oppo Supporters Hawks and Pokies

Anyone know how much cash we were profiting each year from these two venues that we need to replace?

So the sale of these venues will mean we no longer have to pay a rich tax every year to propping up other clubs. I am okay with that

Thankfully, we’ll be able to put our hand out and ask for the AFL to fund us like all but a few clubs.

And we will be able to join the chorus of the majority of clubs that we no longer have pokies. Yay for us

You know what? You're right. I think from here on in, we shouldn't accept money from revenue streams that can harm families.

Carlton Brewery, pubs and hotels, you're out - alcoholism is a pandemic. Insurance companies? Definitely exploitative. Chemist Warehouse? Prescription drugs are some of the worst things out there. Banks? Screw those places, making debt slaves out of families and bankrupting small businesses. Coca Cola, KFC? Obesity is right up there with alcoholism. Football itself? Sports across the world have been shown to have some link to spikes in domestic violence, just being a consumer is contributing to the problem.

If you're going to have this nonsensical outrage about one thing, at least be consistent and apply it to everything. It's fine to not like pokies and prefer that we aren't involved in them, but this whole "selling them is a PR stunt, we should have put them on a barge, set them on fire and let them float out to sea" thing is ridiculous. Be a reasonable person.

Sounds good but I don’t think any of it is true

Hate to alarm you, but the AFL have always funded us. We just get less funding than other clubs.

The revenue would be in last year's financial report.

You’d probably want to go back a few years to get a good estimate - dare say hospitality venues didn’t exactly earn much in Melbourne in either 2020 or 2021.

Good point although 2021 was vastly better than 2020.

In 2021, we had revenues of:
Gaming. $7.6M
Bar and Bistro. $3.6M

In 2019 they were:
Gaming. $12.1M
Bar and Bistro. $7.7M

Geez people really hit the tradie’s laptops hard inbetween lockdowns

When you add accommodation income from those venues as well, they collectively accounted for about 30% of total club revenue.

It is a big hole to fill.

no they won't

anyone know the sale price of Waverley gardens ?

Yes they will. If we have a dip in financial position the AFL formula will ensure they’d pay a higher allowance to us. This ‘they’re out to get us’ mentality some have is just bewildering.

The league does have an anti-hawk agenda, but they won't want to give our new president an easy platform

No. The standard amount clubs get is earned. By group revenues generated by clubs playing football.

The AFL then funds the weaker clubs who cant survive on their own.

Remove the AFL and 10 clubs would stand on their own feet. 8 would disappear.
