Have to say that I disagree...we have multiple options up back....we need hard nut, good defensive forwards with some pace who will attack the footy hard and are capable of kicking goals.

Its pre-season ....why not try a few things.....if Menz and MaCarthy break down we may well have to call on depth to fill the void...

I think its fair enough to give him a run up forward...a practice match or two doesn't "burn a career" and he just might thrive in the role...I thought he was ok in Tasmania..

I'd counter that with we have minimal small defender options back. As capable lock down smalls Bews and Guthrie are our only options. Admittedly i am super critical of Ruggles and don't see a genuine spot for him.

As far as hard nut forwards go Cockatoos not shy and if Gregson was fit he is an exceptional tackler.

Although i agree with you, JLT is trials, Bews proved to me a capable winger or even midfielder. God if he can get even 50% as good as his old man we've got a treat.

Nah, Selwood's was a direct strike to the head (ie intentional), also high-impact (Guerra suffered permanent ongoing hearing damage as a result). The only real comparison was both Guerra and Lang contributed to the contact by shepherding.
Ah, the first and last ever reverse onus of proof standard in the AFL tribunal. No evidence of a strike but couldn't prove that so copped a month. Farcical.

In fact, what's more likely is that there'll be a lot of rumours about Kolo being traded for Ablett, with Geelong posters postulating that the deal isn't good enough and that GC will need to give something else, but then Geelong will wind up instead trading Kolo for a straight swap for a pick in the 40s, which will then be sold by posters on here as a "win" because the 18 year old drafted will be a superstar.
On a side note:

It's an interesting thought isn't it that Kolo was actually drafted in the 40's by us, after most other clubs had passed him by several times.

Now he's a player that needs to be swapped for quality in return. Does that mean that GFC's development is actually pretty good?

Funny how we all see things differently.

I thought Duncan was excellent on Friday night and really led our third quarter comeback. He's one of our best ball users so we need to get it to him in space as often as possible and we did that well. There were several times when Danger got a handball to Duncan in congestion and Duncan broke away from the pack to have a bounce. Hopefully it's something that we've been working on over summer, as it was great to see.
I agree. Duncan and Danger looked very clean and there were moments where it was obvious that they were top shelf. Instinctive play, took the right option, had all the time in the world.

The incident I wanted treated harsher was Stewart on Mackie. Great tackle, pinned the arm, but once Mackie was on the ground there was a defnitive raising of the arm ("chicken wing"). There's no way of suspending within the new MRP guidelines, but felt it probably "deserved" suspension.

Onto more important matters, I think this is the year Nakia arrives. Very impressed with some of his defensive positioning and intercept play, something I hadn't seen from him before. He's always had the talent offensively, but showed a more rounded game.

As a Hawks fan, the third quarter onslaught was troubling. We (Hawthorn) still haven't yet worked out how to stop teams on a roll, and the Cats are one of, if not still the best in the league with their tails up. Cannot believe how under-rated Zac Smith is, or maybe he just saves his best for us?

Thought the same, really easy to wreck a shoulder that way.

Guess this is how the Afl are keeping on top of things :drunk:.

Mackie was clearly pissed after the incident and i don't blame him.

Started a good tackle, just didn't need to go any further imo.

Keep the fake news about the Selwood Guerra incident to your own forum. There is no footage and therefore no one knew what happened.

Game was a practise match. Bit hard to read form or weaknesses off it particularly with all the rotations and players missing from both sides.

Serious question - can anyone remember the last time an opposition player copped a suspension for a high hit on a Geelong player? I'm struggling to think of the last time it happened.

In regards to the Kolodjashnij's when the draft had come around it was indicated that Kade was the brother who was most likely to be needing to be near he's brother not vice versa

Jake was supposedly the independent one

Plus Gold Coast is a swamp

And vice versa, be silly not to enquire even if we didn't have currency
Maybe. Im sure the club would get a vibe from one person or another if he was in anyway looking for a change in scenery. But generally Id don't go in and get quotes for cars out of my budget. It would need balance. The cost of get him and the role he would play , he would probably cost near as much as getting someone like 2mp.

Have a look at the game V the Hawks. Thurlow and 2e does he fit our needs. I know Thurlow played like a rusted bolt but the CRC with be sprayed in after a few more games.

Menegola is a dud mate, I don't expect to see too much of him this year. Hold onto the ball too long and turns it over.

We have seen him play under 10 senior games so I find it hard to assess him. However he does have a mature body that could take the rigours of the game and, I have read, has the second best tank at Geelong. So that I assume means he can run nearly all day. Those two qualities are worth noting.

His stats in the senior games he did play he looked good for very inexperienced player and averaged well over 20 possessions a game - which I think was a very good effort. He is also pretty hard in at the contest and gets a few hard ball gets. So a few more qualities to build on IMO.

Now he is not the best kick in the side, and has been caught with the ball, that is for sure. A few errors in decision making I think is somewhat understandable as he really is new to the tempo of AFL. So I would not write him off just yet - he has earned the right I think to be best 22 presently, and that is especially the case seeing we are missing a few good mids. He just has to perform to provide some support for Danger and Joel.

But I accept he is really unproven as yet and so needs this season to consolidate his position or he needs to make way. You do not get a duo of Selwood and Danger's quality very often in one side - so we had better make hay while their Sun's are still above the horizon.

Finally I remember a guy called Joel Corey. Big, strong, hard, ran all day and a real team player. He made a big difference to our side but was a pretty poor kick IMO - and turned it over more often than other regular mids. So Menegola does not have to have a prefect kick, he does get caught - if he can be adequate and improving in these areas at this stage, I will take that.
