Re: Herald Sun | Stories start here and shit

I started reading a story about Roos sick sister in the HS think we might have a heartwarming story about adversity and family coming together to help but what do i see a mere three sentences in. A link to another story involving Roo talking about the picture scandal new zealand nixon and such. I dont have a problem with him doing an interview about this but to link this to a story that has so many positves for us, well it just pissed me off.
I might be making to much of this but it just seems like typical HS crap to me.

I'm so proud of my brave sister Madeleine, says Nick Riewoldt by: Mark Robinson From: Herald Sun October 14, 2011 12:00AM

ST Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt has told of his love and pride for his sister, Madeleine, who is battling a rare blood disease.
"We're incredibly proud of her and how strong she's been through some pretty trying circumstances," Riewoldt said yesterday.

Whilst we've been distracted of late, I can assure you guys that the Daily Filth has been able to maintain their journalistic standards.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...ust-deal-with-it/story-fn69a32t-1226169144410

St Kilda faces the prospect of losing key players for nothing after a deflating final day of trade week.

The Saints failed to ease their salary cap crisis and suffered the indignity of highly regarded Irishman Tommy Walsh walking out for Sydney.

Having failed to trade contracted midfielder Jason Gram or offload players on solid contracts, the problem remains.

Now the Saints face a round of brutal contract talks with up to a dozen players where they will offer cut-price rates.

The offer will be simple: accept below-par or walk out for nothing in the national or pre-season drafts.

AFL salary cap investigator Ken Wood has approved St Kilda's salary cap plan, but it is far from being carried out.

St Kilda is determined to fix its wage problem this year.

I heard differently - we're quite happy to just sit on our arse and get penalised by the AFL

I hate Ralphy...I tried to comment on his article on the website. Didn't get published:thumbsdown:

Seriously WTF would this peanut know about the inner sanctum of the footy club...He writes as if what he is saying is factual, when in reality it is speculation with no basis. ****wit of the highest order.

Re: Herald Sun | Stories start here and shit

6th October

The Saints are unlikely to be big players during next week's trade period despite rumours that some big names may be moved on due to salary cap restraints.

"From our end I don't think we'll be that active really. There has been a lot of speculation about our club and players being traded but that certainly hasn't been generated from discussions we've been having," Bains said.

Stories start here indeed.

Re: Herald Sun | Stories start here and shit

He's cursed the Daily Filth claim! Shame he resumed training nearly a month ago. They are all over it!

Cursed St Kilda youngster Jamie Cripps back in rehab
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...ps-back-in-rehab/story-e6frf9jf-1226235468734

Luckless St Kilda youngster Jamie Cripps has been sidelined again after tearing a quad muscle in pre-season training.

Cripps is back in the rehab group, where he spent most of the second half of his debut season after suffering compartment syndrome which required surgery on his calves.

Cripps also suffers from type 1 diabetes, an ailment diagnosed just after he was drafted.

Actually they are correct, the quad injury is a different injury to what initially had earlier in preseason. I mentioned this injury after one of the open training sessions. I think it happened just after the Mornington Swim

You give them way too much credit.

They have said he's back in rehab like it's fresh news.

You mentioned the injury on 10 Dec:

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showpost.php?p=22975951&postcount=11

St Kilda injury update of 15 Dec said he'd resumed training.

Peter Burge said around the same time that he was the best endurance runner at the club along with Geary.

Even the article the Daily Filth ripped it from said "slightly tearing his quad during the start of pre-season training".

I see what you mean, i didnt realize it was nearly month ago i mentioned. Thought it was only couple weeks... Makes you wonder why its taken so long, but i guess they only reported it because another newspaper had interview with Crippsy....

IT'S been just months, but for the faithful it may as well have been an eternity.
Footy finally made a triumphant return as a city spins on its reputation as the nation's undisputed sporting capital.
With cricket in full swing and tennis heating up, stars of the game made their first appearances ahead of what is shaping to be another tough year of competition.
Collingwood was the first of the pack to emerge for a long-awaited training session, clearly hoping to dust off the remnants of a grand final defeat and focus on the promise of a better future under new management.

mmm and we just thought it was our love of the Saints that made us seem biased
given even they had interviews with the Lions last week
and had reported some time trialls etc,
and it having been common knowledge that atleast 3 of the 'Melbourne" teams were known to be back on track LAST week.( BTW the saints were back and Players noted it Last wednesday)

Colingwood are FIRST:confused::p:rolleyes::rolleyes: pfft...

Re: Herald Sun | Stories start here and shit

stories start here. but if we don't have any stories we have to follow ppl around in an SUV then hack their phones until we get one (a story that is). and that's how journalism works. it's great! where'd harto go?

Reporting facts isn't their core business, reporting sensationalised stories to sell advertising space is their core business, manipulating the politcial landscape comes 2nd and accurate reporting with facts is a distant last on their list of priorities

Re: Herald Sun | Stories start here and shit

I wonder if the HS dumps on our club because Members can get a discounted subscription to "The Age"? (Melbourne is another club with this deal.) Long bow?

Reporting facts isn't their core business, reporting sensationalised stories to sell advertising space is their core business, manipulating the politcial landscape comes 2nd and accurate reporting with facts is a distant last on their list of priorities

The quote below from "The Age" today is not footy related - sorry - but it supports the points raised in this thread about how the HS (allegedly) goes about it's business.

Man Dead After False Stabbing Claim

An Altona Meadows man who made a false report about being stabbed by an Islander gang died this week from a suspected heroin overdose.

The 29-year-old was formerly employed by the 20th Man Fund, a welfare organisation run by western suburbs youth worker Les Twentyman. Mr Twentyman told the Weekly that he dismissed Mr Mallia before he was charged for unrelated reasons.

The day after our story broke, the Herald Sun ran a front page story with photographs "exposing" Mr Mallia. In the story, Mr Twentyman claimed Mr Mallia had "told a friend: 'I don’t really feel worthy until I've been stabbed like Les'."

The "Hobsons Bay Weekly" exclusive on January 10 (also published on theage.com.au) did not name Mr Mallia.

Mr Mallia called the Weekly in a highly distressed state the day his photographs and name were published.

Crying over the phone, Mr Mallia said he had just returned from the Northern Territory to see himself "exposed" on the front page of the Herald Sun and to find reporters at the door of his parents' home.

He said reports that he had stabbed himself for "street cred" and to be worthy like Les were "bullshit".

In subsequent telephone conversations, Mr Mallia told Fairfax that his new employer in the Northern Territory had dismissed him after media reports which identified him.

He said he couldn't even leave the house and that he would soon be homeless because he wouldn't be able to pay the mortgage.

"I can't go anywhere. Now they just told me I lost my job in the Northern Territory. The media has made me out to be a monster. I'm really hurt. I'm really pissed off. My work is my life."

The Herald Sun - wrecking lives since 1990.

Re: Herald Sun | Stories start here and shit

Maybe it's just me, but I'm finding some amusement in someone's skin being a little thin (given the amount of rubbish - and sometimes complete mistruths - printed by him and his colleagues).

http://www.insidefootballonline.com/crackers.html

The biggest footy fan website is Bigfooty. It's a place where people can let off steam about AFL, VFL, country and suburban footy.

It's come to my attention that Mark Robinson was the target of a vendetta, with a "thread" quickly racking up a stack of comments against him.

One thing about Robinson, he always has an opinion, but coming at a time when the "Chief Football Writer" crown at the Herald Sun has been vacated by Mike Sheahan, I understand he was none too pleased about such a public showing of animosity.

Re: Herald Sun | Stories start here and shit

I like Robbo.

I think he expores the human side of footy, and is good at what he does.

I do remember though, that he was the first reporter to run with the 'scandal' last preseason, and I hope that he was big enough to learn something from it.
