Possible depending on results - that Carlton finish 15th and Adelaide finish 12th....how did you get them as low as 13th??!

worst case has now become Carlton finish 16th and Adelaide finish 9th - cant see them beating doggies by > 30 points.

I liked BB and wish he was still in charge at the moment. It’s just too hard to understand why he refused to adjust. I get frustrated thinking we have squandered a year.
Many of us would agree but ifs buts and maybes wont change a thing.
Just lucky for us that Teague eased the pain with a magic clipboard.

I’m doing three things at once at present...I’m slipping...
eating steak, mashed potatoes and peas is not what is usually considered doing 3 things at once............just saying..............

Now they are trying to justify their finishing position compare to ours, staggering

Reality is, they supposedly had a top 2 side according to Champion Data( yes I know, wankfest), while we were rated 3rd last

One meets expectations, the other fails miserably

Next year we will continue to rise, while they will again miss the 8

I wonder if they still have grins like a split watermelon :watermelon:

Both clubs would be content with the deal.

Lets be honest though, it wasn't looking pretty prior to Teague taking over.

Adelaide can still make finals but our pick could be as high as 7 in the ND.

Lets hope results go our way :)

Without some kind of minor miracle with their percentage North can no longer make finals or finish above Adelaide.

The lowest Adelaide can now finish is 12th.
Freo and North, you suck. Now Freo needs to win both remaining games, including beating Port in Adelaide.

North are eliminated. Now Adelaide lowest possible position is 12th.

Now to next week. Here's what we need and want for Adelaide to finish in the lowest possible position.

Round 22

Need:

Collingwood defeats Adelaide ✔
Fremantle defeats Essendon ❌
Port defeats North❓

Want:
Hawthorn defeats Gold Coast ✔
Bulldogs defeats GWS ✔
Freo still sucks. Fancy letting a garbage team like Essendon play finals.

Looks like that minor miracle might actually happen. Even Freo can technically leapfrog Adelaide. And Port just needs to lose by slight less than Adelaide to pass them.

For Adelaide to finish 13th

Need:

Western Bulldog to thrash Adelaide by 80 points.
Freo to thrash Port by 70 points.
North to beat Melbourne.

For Adelaide to finish 12th

Need (roughly):

Western Bulldog to thrash Adelaide
Port to either beat Freo or lose by 10 points less than Adelaide.
North to beat Melbourne by enough to bridge a 70 point deficit between them and Adelaide, e.g. if Adelaide lose by 20 points they need to beat Melbourne by 50 points or more.

It certainly wasn't looking pretty, but pick 3 for pick 7/8 + 19 is a loss for them. Especially given the apparent evenness of those outside the top 2 and Adelaide's need to bring in fresh talent. They don't have first round picks to give away.

I reckon pick 3 for picks 8 and 19 is about right if there's a specific player you want and they're available at the selection.

In saying that, I'd probably prefer 8 & 19 if the draft was regarded as fairly even across the first round.

Crows fans are a special bunch let me telll ya. I've watched loads of games over here in their company.
When things don't go their way they fall like a house of cards.
Generally when they're down they go quiet and if there's a sniff of things not working out they are outta there.
Seen it many times.
A chap sitting in the row in front of me (cows v blues) at the MCG this year removed his jumper immediately after the siren.
I'm talking 10 secs. Jumper off and in the bag. Someone else outside burning the jumper.
Give me a spell.

And here we are last year, getting belted by them by what was it, 100 points +?
And we're singing the song. You'd never see that here.

The pick swap saga has been interesting. Early on I was copping it from all and sundry.
Reminded fairly consistently at the incompetence and ineptitude of SOS.
It was Crowey on 5AA with his '#pick1 here we come' BS.
Now they hardly speak of it. And it still looks like they'll get something decent!!
ON top of that with the suns looking for some PP's it's a whinge fest.
I've had one crows fan telling me that if the AFL hand GC anything in terms of a PP they'll rip their membership up.
ha ha. go right ahead. I'll hold YOUR beer.

In May they were top 4 bound. We were bound to finish last.
They had the easiest draw. We had a hard draw.

Eat s**t Crows you pathetic club.

What do you say we give you pick 21 and our 2020 1st for your 2020 1st?
I think they already have our second rounder. But if we didn’t, it would still be a good deal for us.

This is a realistic outcome I can see happening:

- Dogs beat Crows by 35+
- North beat Dee by 35+
- Port win or lose to Freo by no more than 35
- Hawks not losing by 60 points or more to Eagles

Ends up Crows 12th and Blues 16th.

The idea of Crows finishing 13th or Carlton finishing 15th is awesome dreamland.

So Pick 3 for Pick 7 and Pick 6 with a year of development (that's where we would have taken him so that is what we got) is brilliant business!

What I really wanna know is how SOS knew what he knew when he knew that Reid didn’t know what he knew.

Unfortunately for SOS, we’ve underperformed this year. So badly that we sacked our coach. And there’s the 4 losses by under a goal.

SOS got really unlucky. Even with that hindsight, we’d still do the deal.

1. The deal signalled on the night it was made what Carlton's expectations of ladder position was expected to be - significantly higher than where we are now - despite 7 wins ( so far) and on 16th position
2. People have to factor in the timeline in which these expectations were made - it was before: Docherty's second ACL he was fit and coming back strong/Before Pickett wrecked his knee, before Charlie wiped out a season, before Cuningham had another interrupted season/Williamson /Marchbank and before McGovern damaged his back in a training accident - and before Carlton lost 4 games by less than a kick or some such...

SOS wanted Stocker - simple as that and at #19 ( he had tried for the pick before but (port?) knocked him back, it is all on TV and on the record) ...why did he want him? Well (again on the record) SOS fancied Stocker as a top10 pick easily in a strong draft and as low as 6...

In Carlton's mind it was going to be Adelaide (probably somewhere in top8) and Carlton expected to be certainly out of bottom 4. So Adelaide finishing say 5-8 and Carlton finishing say 14th- 12th ie something around a 6 pick downgrade..

Adelaide got a bit ahead of themselves in expectations when Carlton's season went off the rails and it looked like another spoon. Adelaide have also peformed below anyone's expectations - set to finish between 9th and 11th.

11 V 16th ending up being a (you guessed it) a 4-5 pick downgrade for Carlton ie pick 3 for pick 8 and pick 19.

If Stocker works out as a regular starting player- it is a win for Carlton and Adelaide haven't 'lost' that much - or have they?

Honestly, I think we’ve finished exactly where the Crows expected when they made the trade. Unfortunately for them, they’re a lot worse than they expected.

I think there is a way to look at this that some posters are overlooking for pure numbers/draft points and that is the quality of the draft. Obviously it's speculative at this point but the top 2 this year are absolute standouts. Once you get past them there's not a lot of difference between the next 8-10, which will probably fluctuate based on a teams needs and where they pick.

In a way, the Crows could be considered to have given us pick 19 in a 'super draft' for essentially nothing except having their first choice of that group of 10ish players who could have a blanket thrown over them in terms of their draft standing.

Not only would we take that again, we also supposedly drafted a player who we rated much higher. IMO, we have already won this trade and it is only a matter of interest who the crows take, how they develop and what the net outcome is for us; either trading that pick, how they turn out or selecting one of the next rung of 10 and how they develop for us.
