As long as the supporters continue to back him in he'll last out his contract IMO.Is this akin to shooting yourself in the foot? The noise surrounding Simpson being coach will ratchet up early doors.

The cornerstones of a rebuild:Strawman. I'm not saying that at all. That's the Kane Cornes take on it.
I'm just saying now probably isn't the best time to start with a new coach unless there is clearly one in mind - we don't have to do it just because the Media is calling for blood.
Again that was Cornes take on it - he also stated just this week that "the rebuild hasn't even started yet".
I don't even really know what that means haha. Again a bit of a brainless shock jock take.
Rebuild has just finished it's 3rd season considering that we have stocked up on draft picks (and 2 mid season draftees).
It will take a while but we've more than started the rebuild. Past 2 drafts those that (so far) could be B22 are:
Hewett,
Ginbey,
Culley,
Long,
Maric,
Hough,
Bazzo,
J Williams
These are potential best 22s with of course likely Reid, Brockman, Devon and others being added to the mix this draft period.
And nothing is black and white - not everyone else on the list is a 30+ yr old Veteran who needs to retire. We also have:
Oscar Allen - 24
Jamaine Jones - 24
Bailey Williams - 23
Tom Cole - 25
Jack Petrucelle - 24
Liam Duggan - 26
SPS - 25
Liam Ryan - 26
these all also have a chance to prove they are best 22 (or remain b22) and all are still relatively young.
Now of course I am trying to have an intelligent discussion - I'm not saying "herp, derp, Grand Final 2026 here we come!!" - but to state we haven't started to rebuild is just straight up nonsense. It's seriously a nonsense statement. Not sure what ppl think we have been doing the past 3 / 2.5 years.
well any long term rebuild is a balancing act....The cornerstones of a rebuild:
- Change of leadership
- Making hard calls on veterans
- Trading out mature players with currency
- Prioritising the draft
You may argue that WC have done those things, or don't need to do those things, but the counter-arguments are there and they are strong.
Like you say it's a balancing act.Making hard calls on Veterans. Well the squad needs to be balanced. Loyalty should be rewarded. You dont ditch a 30 year old if they are still playing good footy, even if the side is in the bottom 6. If your team has 6-8 blokes on the squad aged 30 or over, they will be phased out over 2 or 3 years not over 1. It takes years to replace certain players.
Sounds like a pure financial decision.
Going to finish bottom 4 in 2024 regardless of who is coach.
UpdatedFair enough if you believe that, but to follow with
Sure does sound like maybe it isn't a coaching issue as much as a bad list?
Rebuilding in moderation. A fitting slogan for the Eagles approach.well any long term rebuild is a balancing act....
You need to make the right calls and do things in... moderation.
Change of leadership. Well that can be easy or hard. Depends on how old the captain is too. If the Captain is 30 years old, is that bloke gonna see through a 4-6 year rebuild? Unlikely.
If the captain is 24-27, probably.

Sandilands was 37 years old when he retired in 2019. Took freo time to eventually find his replacement. Sean Darcy played 25 dockers games from 2017-9. Bloke has been our main ruckman since round 1, 2020.
Trading out players with Currency. Debatable on certain situations. Trading out players not in the best 22, fair enough.
If you have an ageing squad, you are not gonna trade out the very few 24-27 year olds unless they want to leave.
Priortising the draft. Well thats obvious. Team gets a few 18-21 year olds on the draft. Develop them and 5 years later, they are 23-26 year olds.
