Curious to know as there are a lot of Hughes fans on this board. Personally, I still think his technique is horrible and he won't bother the score board much.

First innings: 17 Caught in the gully

Second innings: 5 Bowled

P.S. Obviously you can't chose the poll option for both innings so just average out the two scores for them both then cast your vote.

If the pitch is like any bellerive pitch this year then both sides will be luckt to post decent scores. Id dare say the amount of runs for hughes isnt really an issue, i all depends if he gets caught in the slips or not.

Not sure what happens if he doesnt make many runs and gets squared up and caught at 2nd/3rd slip. Would mean he hasnt learnt anything.

I'm afraid this may just happen. I think it's more a mentality thing for him. As soon as the baggy green goes on, he crumbles under the pressure. Yes he has made a few 100s in the baggy green, but I still believe his technique is rotten.

I don't see how this thread is in any way informative or constructive.

Me too. :thumbsu:

It's informative because a lot of people on here are jizzing about Hughes and his "new" technique. Therefore, I want these people to cast there vote on how many runs they think he will score. I am not a hater of Hughes. I am more of a realist and don't see him as a permanent batter in the Australian line up.

After the first test, we can then see where Hughes is at so to speak.

He hasn't played a Test since he's changed his technique.

I think 'pessimist' would actually be more appropriate for you.

He has played first class games though. Different kettle of fish there in comparison to being in the Aussie line up.

There are a lot more people bashing Hughes than jizzing about his new technique.

Anyway, I don't really want the thread to turn into an argument. I just want people to be honest about how many runs they think he will make.

Obviously this guy was frustrating as hell after his blistering start.
Credit to him though for focusing on being a better 'test match player' dropping BBL and all that last summer:thumbsu:

for people who have seen him bat recently..
how has he improved his game? does he still look terrible against the short stuff?

pitch against WA was perfectly decent for batting on... WA just batted like american tourists on a day trip who had no idea how to hold the thing. A day later Tassie cruised past 400 on the same deck.

He's playing a lot more onside shots through mid-on/mid-wicket so he doesn't seem to get as tangled up.

His bread and butter is still off the back foot through point.

Still gets out the same way, but he's a bit more selective, which to me says it's concentration as much as technique.

Against average bowling Hughes will make big scores. His test will come when a world class attack targets him. I've got no idea if he's improved enough but he deserves another crack. He has some unique talent and I see a future for him. 72, 36.

will get a ton, dominate the rest of the series, book his flights for England, then play horrendous over there sending bigfooty into meltdown.

Thats a pretty certain chain of events one would think. :D
