He coaches them to 6-7 wins in each of his first two seasons then they trade Gibbs, lose All Australian defender Docherty and Murphy misses most of 2018. Most teams would struggle losing their best three, let alone such a young club.

Been competitive this season. That first half against the Hawks was the best they’ve moved the ball in years. Harsh on Bolton, hopefully lands on his feet with an assistant role somewhere

Sorry mate, don't take it personally but it's just an opinion and one that is very important to our sport.
It is why a female will never become a senior coach at AFL level.
Fagan is also about 6ft and not 5ft'1 or whatever Bolton is.

Fagan ain't 6 foot. Go have a look at him standing next to some of the players.

I'm not taking it personally, I'm just pointing out that it's stupid and wildly incorrect.

Seems ludicrous if they're about to move him on.
Thought they'd have learnt some serious lessons after Ratts > Malthouse.

Your right.
Maybe he needs to talk more about his love of his players and how they have impacted his life and the journey they are on together?

Bolton comes across as top bloke and all but as a leader of men, he just doesn't stack up.
Never played at the top level and when your his size in stature, you need to have some kind of intimidation factor about you.
He's more suited to a assistant role where he can mentor and spend more time with individuals on their roles.

So, if he was built like Jono Brown, he'd intimidate those wins out of them?

Ok then.

Except that Ratten was a far better coach and his sacking was a kneejerk reaction (despite injuries, only missed the finals by a couple of games)

Not really they are going backwards, might as well do it now and look for another coach.

we were only okay in those first 2 years because docherty quarterbacked the team.

watching carlton try and move the ball out of defense without docherty is like watching an amputee trying to solve a rubbick's cube

even in games where they've played well this year (the port, collingwood and hawthorns games) they've succumbed to the sheer weight of inside 50s late in all those games because they just couldn't get it out of their back half.

C’mon, Goldie Hawn did it in ‘Wildcats’, anything is possible ;)

Clarkson is hardly Andre the Giant ;)

Surely the board, Judd and SOS goes before Bolton.

There are problems at that club far greater than the coach, and they keep repeating the same shit they always do.

How much longer does the league have to supplement them with picks, money etc when they refuse to make the right calls internally.

Feels like Leppa all over.

Spent a few years gutting and rebuilding the list but the losses and teams inability to implement a competitive game plan eventually got him.

Next appointment is super important for Carlton. They need to get the right people in from the CEO down. The next coach needs to finish gutting the list and brining in talent while implementing an honest and sustainable game plan. Could see Carlton doing exactly what Brisbane has done, only quicker due to the structural advantages it has.

If the board think Scott is the best person to take them forward then I reckon get him in ASAP if that’s possible, so that proper list management and talent acquisition can happen at end of season.

Tough trot for Bolton who I can only imagine is a decent coach, but I would be excited if I were a blues fan. The organisation is primed to make its way back up if it makes a few hard calls.

The win-loss covering effectively two seasons is horrific. There are also strategic decisions that he would’ve been party to which he should be held to account. If keeping him on costs key players as well as members and sponsors they have to make a move.

That said, it seems to me that he has had a bum steer. He inherited a mess from the Malthouse era. Cripps was injured for the final stanza of 2017 where the losing streak started. Docherty has missed two seasons with an ACL. Murphy and Kruezer have barely played unhindered. Trading Gibbs may yield long term benefits but loading up the midfield with skinny kids has meant that Bolton is coaching with one arm tied behind his back.

Unless the situation is untenable behind closed doors, I think he’s never really had clean air. Similar tenure to Dean Bailey in a few ways.
