I'm calling it early, a Geelong Premiership in 2010, however...

You may well be right, but being favourites doesn't give me comfort. It did in 07, but even then I thought we were good things. Same in 08 until the Pies debacle-I struggled to believe that a flag favourite could be capable of a 15 goal loss. Last year, the injuries were so rampant, we did superbly to get up. Now, to not score in a 1/2 of footy doesn't fill me with a whole lot of confidence- last year's loss against Saints was almost a win; we did win 3/4, caught up and could have won. This loss, despite the outs, is something I've not seen from a flag favourite.

Don't you mean "pinched it" ;)

In that round 14 game I thought there were excuses but our mids played as good as they could to be honest.

We lost by 4 goals. I didn't see it so I really can't comment any further.

But no team can win a flag with 6 of the best out. And we can't just slot them back in either. They all need plenty of weeks playing together.

Considering the injured are used to playing together, they will probably only need 2 maybe 3 weeks to gel. 6 of the usual starting 22 out is a massive hole to have in the team, no matter what anybody says.

I can't see players like T. Hunt, R.Gamble, S. Hogan being in the team come finals time assuming the entire team is fit.

Any thoughts on Hawthorn as premiership contender? Much as I would love to play and beat the hell out of them in the 2010 GF, I would dread the thought of them winning the "big one" against us *again*!! :(

Any thoughts on Hawthorn as premiership contender? They seem to be going OK (and improving) at the moment. Much as I would love to play and beat the hell out of them in the 2010 GF, I would dread the thought of them winning the "big one" against us *again*!! :(

It will never happen. Geelong have improved a great deal since then and have learned their lesson. Having said that, Hawthorn rushed 11 behinds so they could stay in possession of the ball. I wouldn't call it cheating, but more like a win through tact, not skill.

Geelong should smash Hawthorn this week and during September. Our biggest threats are the Saints and Pies. Hawthorn are good, but not great enough to have any real September chance.

Hawthorn are gathering steam now and nothing would give me greater pleasure than to bring the Buddy train to a halt next Sat night. I hate these guys!! I'm also afraid of losing to them in a GF.

A pity Mooney is out as he usually does okay against them.

still not 100% convinced. they're up to 7 wins in a row now, but the bulldogs were the first of the top tier teams that they've beaten, and they only just fell over the line.

i still have hawthorn finishing about 6-8. they've got a tough draw ahead so we'll know more in a few weeks.

and i'd be happy to play them in the GF

Put the Hawks to the sword this week boys, and show them how a real team plays. I used to love the Hawks, but their obscene arrogance after one premiership win far surpassed any shown by three years of Cats dominance.

Show them how it's done.

Swans and Saints, both near the bottom, recall it clearly, not sure if Blues were raging favourites at that stage, but also recall Parko saying they'd gone from the best team to the worst team over a 2 week period.

When THAT happened in 08, I thought that was the worst thing that I've experienced in footy. Whatever has happened or will happen since then is tolerable. NEVER getting my hopes too high since then is how I cope, which is frustrating for some. Not to say I don't appreciate the team we have, but I seriously expect us not to succeed and if we do , it's a superb bonus.

So if Hawks or Saints get up, we've experienced it before

Hawks are going good, without having done much yet (most of their wins have been against teams outside the 8, and most of them have been close, so they haven't exactly blown people apart). Their draw will make it hard to finish top 4. That said, they can beat anyone on their day and will be tough next week given our injury list. Go Cats!

Yea I think we won 2 games that year loved that game did we party that night but we did too much of that back then.

heartache awaits the pussycats in 2010, Brown and Gold heartache that is, we have the cryptonite to Geelongs super powers and everyone associated with the cats knows it, and fears it.

I honestly don't buy into it. The last four times against the Cats, we've lost 3.. exception being the grand final. So, I'd say they have the edge over us if anything.

One thing I have never really understood about most Hawthorn supporters is that they seem to get more enjoyment out of beating us in a GF and giving us no end of shit, than the Hawks actually winning.

Really is it that hard for some Hawthorn supporters to just refrain from behaving like a complete ####en w***er? Keep the misplaced arrogance on your forum where it belongs.

Well, I'll put it this way. I'd rather us win a Grand Final than ten H & A matches in a row against any particular team.

Cups ARE more important...

I'm not the least bit surprised the success that was handed on a platter (by sheer dumb luck via zoning) to the mayblooms in the last few decaded attracts bottom feeders with delusions of grandeur. What else have they got to brag about? lol

The way the vast majority of them carry on in this forum you'd be forgiven for thinking they were all members of the teams that won the flags.

Hahaha yeah I'm still lol'ing at the guy that did that. One guy speaks for the entire Geelong fan base, am I right?

As a Hawks fan i would just like to say that i refuse to buy into any 'Hawks v Cats, we're better than you' bullshit. I have an immense level of respect for your footy club, moreso than any other. We have played some of the greatest matches i can remember and no matter what, it always seems to be a fairly even battle. the last 2 matches in particular have been huge. Im hoping for another good close match on the weekend and with a bit of luck we might get up this time. Im not expecting it though.

As for the flag, there is a long way to go still. There are still 5 or 6 teams that could be in with a chance if they are in form come September. But i have my money on the cats at this point. Until another team can decisively prove they are better i can't see you guys getting beaten.
