Yeah I agree it wasnt the greatest deal, or handled the best.

My understanding was that GWS wanted a 1st round pick for Marchbank and Pickett.

Touhy was leaving anyway (he accepted a better offer from Geelong) and being uncontracted we had little wriggle room. Geelong offered a 1st future round pick [and Smedts] for Touhy and our future 2nd. It gave us the currency that GWS wanted for Marchbank and Pickett. Smedts was a free hit of sorts.

I would have preferred to hand over a third and let them keep Smedts. They guy was talented, but lazy.

Apparently we're looking at picking up Aaron Mullett as a DFA. Vaguely recall him looking OK a few years back.

Whats he like? Biggest knock/ reason he was let go?

He's a magnificent kick for goal on the run from 50 out. Unfortunately that wasn't what we needed from a medium sized defender as his one v one defence would often boggle the mind. He took most of our kickouts and padded his stats by playing on for most of them and almost always roosting it long to the same talls in the same spots, apart from the odd slam straight down the middle inside the centre square in an attempt to get a fastbreak going.

If he winds up with you guys I wish him well anyway. He's a good bloke is Fishy.

I'd rather of kept Mullett than pick up Morgan.

Seems a strange strategy. Perhaps a case of better the devil we know in mullet.

I think Hibberd is being groomed as the long term running rebound def.
Having Morgan or mullet as depth seems inconsequential - unless Morgan seen to have bit more versatility and go on a wing also or something

Ahern has also had 2 knee reconstructions. Morgan was tipped to go around the 20-30 mark in a number of phantom drafts. A couple even suggested that we could grab him at pick 20 in an effort to add much meeded pace to our lineup.

He's had multiple hamstring injuries that had reduced his ability to get any continuation in his game. That is going to leave him on the outskirts of any team. It'd be a different story if he was injury free and still not getting a game but that hasn't been the case.

We will be giving up next to nothing for him. Essendon have put two years of work into him so he's got an AFL ready body. Just need to get his confidence back. The pick we use for him would go to a player that has shown less than he did in juniors.

Morgan is cheaper than Ahern. Very low risk, high reward. If he fails, we cut our microscopic losses but if he succeds, we turn our pennies into dollars!

Don't mind Taking on one project like this. Be interesting to see where he ends up relative to that kid we let the BLUWS have.
