Whats your issue with our 'form' of the last 2 years adding Dawson, Rachele, TT and very likely Rankine? 4 All Australian potential types over coming years. And a fit Pedlar could add to this list of A Graders. The more pertinent question is has ANY other club drafted/traded as well in the last 2 years? Add Soligo, Nank and Taylor and the year before Shoey and Worrell and any non-clown poster would see we are more likely top quartile in drafting and trading in recent years rather than the opposite.

Red Flags. Please quote facts. Is he a druggy or crim. His parents may be over enthusiastic about him but no red flags I have heard. He is a top player that we will regret not going after.

The Phillipou family are exactly what we usually seek. A very close knit family, all extremely intelligent, successful and unbelievably disciplined.

Sam (father) and Peter (grandfather) are as straight as an arrow. Probably not that easy to deal with because they are very protective of Mattaes. I have heard nothing to suggest that Mattaes doesn’t follow the traits of the rest of the family (intelligent, exceptionally focussed, very hardworking).

Mattaes would not allow barracking for Port Power to influence his decision, imho.

Lets start with the later picks (30 and later)..
I have consistently said on this forum that Haggis has a good track record here and Soligo, Nank and Taylor are yet more examples of this.. even though there has been a fair few that I would mark as fails too like your Wilson’s, poholke’s and Davis’s.. mcpherson’s also a worry at this point.. but.. i’d give the club a big tick for their drafting in the latter stages of the count.

My suggestion has always been keep haggis but only let him use the picks after 30. Because his 1st round record is fxxkin ordinary… lets have a look at it.

Gallucci. Bust

Doedee. Good player.. but is he really worth a 1st?.. very debatable. Very good intercepter but they are a dime a dozen and his defending skills 1v1 are deplorable. I wouldnt have used a first on him.

Milera… even before his injuries all we ever saw was flashes of brilliance here and there and then not much else.. not worth a 1st rounder.

McAsey.. bust. Massive fxxk up.

McHenry.. not sure who, out of he and keays, uses more energy to achieve sweet fxxk all. Bust. Barely worthy of a pick in the 40’s.

C Jones.. I’m one his biggest defenders on here at times.. but he is nowhere near worth a 1st rounder. Pick in the 30’s at best. But the clubs development/management of this lad hasnt helped either.

Pedlar.. after two years on the list he’s finally showing something but has proven nothing at AFL level yet. Jury is still out. Does his current SANFL form translate to AFL level or is he just running around like an unregistered dog in a Bgrade comp?. We’ll see.

Fog.. big tick… but fxxk me, our development of this lad has been disgraceful. Wasted him for four years. Prefered to pick an injured Tex over him in 2018/19 and left him to wallow in the SANFL. Dumb.

Rachele.. tick.. but again like TT.. top 5 (when excluding f/s picks etc) picks really should be nailed. Confident he’ll turn into a gun.

Our drafting, list and player management and contracting has been a complete disaster for a good 5-10 years now and anyone that thinks otherwise shouldnt be daring to call others delusional.

And three bottom 5 finishes in a row has been the ultimate result of this miss management.

The proof is in the pudding.

You can be happy with it… ignorance is bliss I guess.. but some of us around here don’t accept mediocrity as easily as others.

Answer me this...after the Tippett debacle (again not Hamishs fault) we had no first our second round picks in 2012 and 2013. But fast forward 5 years in 2017 we had the MOST players in the Under 22 Best Young Players squad - 7 of them. How does that happen if you have crap recruiting combined with crap draft picks (and in fact no decent draft picks for 2012 and 2013)? Seriously, how does this happen if we are so crap?

AND who has recruited / drafted better in the last 2 years with TT, Rachele, Dawson, Soligo, Berry, for starters and a probable Rankine. Answer please

fair call and apologies for going off on a tangent - its just the negativity and lack of balance with some posters that does my head in (and actually feel sorry for some posters seemingly default mindset in life but I accept I cant change it).

fk me, not sure how you can turn losing one of the best defenders and one of the best small forwards in the comp over the past couple of years into a “win” because we got alright picks for them in return. Wow. Lets all bow to the geniuses at the club for that!

What about Bcrouch?.. notice you havent mentioned the “great bluff” strategy that worked out so well for the club in the end!..

No mention on the Stengle saga either?.. I mean, hasnt that turned out well for the club. Gee… So much reward for the club for taking the moral high ground on that one!

I’ll get some balance when we start seeing some results and our list management doesnt look so amatuerish. The last 5 seasons have all been bottom 10 finishes including a spoon and two bottom 5 finishes.

That turd is flipping dull no matter how much you desperately try to polish it.

But the reality is, as good as Peds has looked in recent weeks in the SANFL, he’s still shown nothing at AFL level and only played 5 games… mostly due to injury and little opportunity.

I havent ever seen two players put in so much effort to achieve so very little..

If only every player in our team put in as much effort, energy and intensity as these two blokes do.. we’d be well on our way to a premiership..

The problem with McHenry and Keays obviously is that, at the same time, they are both incredibly shit footballers..

All effort and intensity.. no talent, poise and skill.

Talent, poise and skill will nearly always win out.. you see it in the top players in the comp.. they always look like they have all the time in the world and yet still look like they are barely even trying!.. using past examples from a crows perspective.. Andrew Mcloud, D jarman.. guys like that were the masters of it.

I was thinking watching the SANFL side on the weekend that young Taylor has little bit of Pendlebury about him in that he just seems to have a little bit of time and space and poise to his play..echoes of Pendlebury lets say

I watched taylor in the sanfl highlights and my god wtf isn't he in the afl team yet.

He looks an absolute gun doesnt he..

Unfortunately he had a broken thumb and missed a bit of footy this year..

Really only got back and fit and up to the speed of the game in the last few rounds of the SANFL..

So it’s not like they were overlooking him..

Should be a lock for R1 next season if he can show something in the preseason games..

Reads the the play very well too.. especially at the CB’s… just manages to be at the fall of the ball at exactly the right time..

Allows him to break away from the contest with speed.

Selection is going to be interesting early next year. There are a few guys who you would think will be out of the team to make way for Pedlar, Taylor, Rankine and possibly Hamill

It will be interesting to see if Turner remains on the list - looked really good in the final and another who could over take McHenry Murphy etc

I was a bigger fan of Keays than I am now. The B & F Coaches' voting will be revealing as to how he's been valued, but I don't think he's as desperately bad as the Clam says.
I watched the Final vs Norwood. Taylor and Pedlar both impressive imo, but I really loved the work of Strachan, rucking, marking around the ground, and his kicking is so much better than ROB's.
I know they won't do it (seniority, big contract) but I'd play Strachan ahead of ROB.
