A future second has been mentioned many times already in last couple of pages, so if someone is talking about overpaying is some how good actually, then the implication is obvious.

Just spitballing, but the pick 5 trade for Rankine might be part of the longer-term play here. If we used PSD threat to low ball GCS, there is no way they would entertain a Hollands trade next year (contracted to end 2024).

Offering a fair deal keeps those trade discussions open.

Butters does some pretty amazing things on a footy field and I agree hes a talent..

But I also agree with others who say he goes missing when guys like drew, pepper, boak and wines are getting beaten by their opponents.

And thats where Soligo looks better.. soligo has all the talent, skill and poise of Butters but he doesnt go missing when his team mates are all down and getting beaten.. Soligo did it this year as an 18 year old in his first year in a bottom 5 side.. not like Butters whos been able to shine in a much better performing list..

And this is the sign of a real gun player.. one that, even when all his team mates are down and is playing in a garbage side, still shines.

I reacon soligo will be better than Butters.

But geez, I’d still love to have Butters on our list.. i’d replace mchenry and jones with Butters in an instant!

I just bought some Tesla shares at 240 because I believe they will be worth 400 in 2 months. Should I perhaps pay 400 since that’s what I believe is their true future value?

no one doubts that Rankine is potentially going to be a star, but the fact is he hasn’t played at anywhere near the level of his draft position to this stage. In fact if the 2018 draft was redone now, then both Kings, Bailey Smith, Rozee, Butters and possibly Caldwell would all go before him. Pick 5 should never have been used, and certainly not mentioned until much later in trade week if it was our fallback position.

As a reminder Gold Coast basically have the wood over us in trades.

Absolutely reamed us for Jarryd Lyons and gave unders for Greenwood. The only favor they've done was taking Atkins off us, but he was a free agent

The fact that we're trading more than Pick 5 for Rankine does make me suspicious.

Could Rankine + his management have requested a minimum Pick standard?

Have we been notified of other trade opportunities come next year and are keeping a good working relationship with GC?

If it's Pick 5 + extra and that's it, then we've simply caved in to AFL/Public/Media pressure, and we may become the first club that has been bent over by Gold Coast at the trade table. What a miserable outcome that is.
