Maybe for a late addition to the list, say Caleb Poulter or the like?
Personally I hope we make this happen with Poulter, I know list spots are tight but he's worth a punt. Once he puts on some size could be decent IMO.

Yeah and we may need help from gc in future trades. You don't purposely burn bridges.
Bullshit, they gave us a third rounder for Lyons when they didn't use one of their picks in the 20s, that should have burnt a bridge but here we are like we have Stockholm syndrome trading for Rankine

Sounds like GC are mildly interested in Poulter?

Perhaps a 3-way deal including Rankine, Frampton, Poulter and picks?
Seems we are after a future 3rd for Frampton according to Jon Ralph..

The Pies will offer up a future third-rounder for Adelaide’s defensive back-up Billy Frampton but first have to acquire that pick by swapping one of this year’s late selections at 50 or 51.

Adelaide is keen for a future pick and while the Pies could play hard-ball football boss Graeme Wright is being commended for getting deals done with a minimum of fuss.

This is the one Vader. Is feenix67 correct here? Would make things simpler.
They extended the period, allowing players to remain on the rookie list for a 4th year, for 2022 only.

Butts has now been on the rookie list for 4 years, and Strachan for 3.

Butts is at the maximum, even if they do allow players a 4th year in 2023 - which they said they wouldn't (but we all know the AFL lies compulsively).

Strachan was drafted in the same RD as Butts, no?
Actually, we're both wrong.

Strachan was selected in the 2018 RD, and has done 4 years.
Butts was selected in the 2019 RD, and has done 3 years.

I got them around the wrong way - Strachan is maxxed out, even if they do allow them to stay on the rookie list for a 4th year again.

Pick 5 could also fail spectacularly, FWIW. Hell, look at McAsey
Yep but it’s far better to have Rankine and someone else who is a chance to fail.
Than just Rankine

Nope Danger is correct both 2018

In which case they're both at 4 years... so the AFL extending the 4-year rookie rule from 2022 to 2023 won't make any difference.
I'll have to listen to CrowCast this week then to get what he meant

We lowballed lyons so we obviously didn't rate him very highly.

My biggest fear isn't what we pay for Rankine......

It's that Matthew Nicks will try and train the Rankine out of him.

Pick 5 for one the most talented young players in the comp is completely fair. He will instantly be our most talented player, would pick 5 be?
Agree with the player thoughts .....but what do you think we would have had to pay, if Rankine was Contracted ?

IF it's pick #5 and 3rd rnd pick ......why the hell is it dragging on .....seems pretty straight forward to me

We'd prolly have to give pick 5 and our future first if he was contracted.

Whats the incentive to get it done quickly though. I mean with our list spots being so tight, its hard to imagine us making any other plays for players

Don't forget, part of the reason Dawson and Rankine agreed to come to ADEL was because of Nicks

Dawson had a better year, than his last at SYD ......Soligo :whitecheck: ...Fogs :whitecheck: .....Thilthorpe :whitecheck: ....Hinge and Berry :whitecheck: .....all progressing nicely under Nicks

There's simply no evidence, what you're saying is true

Accept that .....but then, what is the advantage of delaying the trade ....serves no purpose, other than to "appear" to be negotiating hard ......we must have got a copy of the Dodoro trading manual ?

Yep ....that's what I don't get .....no discount in this trade at all, for an uncontracted player
