JLT2 - Crows v Cats

If anyone wants to melt down after a pre-season game, next week is the one to do it. That's the dress rehearsal. There is still uncapped rotations, 8 bench players along with different team strategies that are used this week. Who knows what we might be trying, or where they might be in a training load. Nothing to be concerned about yet.
Exactly. This board is ****ing stupid this time of year.

Lets be honest though, Geelong has ALWAYS been a bogey team for us and they have a very decent side on the park.

if we can be competitive and play smarter (stop bombing it long to Tuohy/Henderson) and just get our hands on the pill i wont be worried.

Haha, two goal diff and its melt city in here! Glad I don't have hardly any access to the net. Given the experience difference I was expecting a two goal to about 9 goal margin. We're on track for the middle of that so, meh for me for the moment.

Better in the middle this week, went bad late in the first quarter tho. Lot of wasted kicks to half forward area by us, just gifting them no pressure turnovers. Lots of players still to come into it, everyone getting a turn in and out of where the action is.

Have noticed in all the JLT games a lot of frees being paid and often large differentials, which seems crazy to me, must mean all the rest of the games in history have been umpired wrong?!?!? Anyway, last week we were beneficiary, this week its 8-1 down at half time - perhaps its the away team umpiring rule.

Hampton, Otten, ROB, Atkins have been good thus far.

Might check in again after the game. Have fun in here. :thumbsu:
Better in the middle? What are you basing that on?

I'm not too bothered about this so far. If both teams were full strength, Geelong are still the better team on paper. And today they're only really missing Guthrie from their best 22, but we're missing Sloane, Betts, Lever, Jenkins, Thompson (arguably), McGovern, and Cheney. So I think we've done well to stick with them.

What's happening with Seedsman? Is he injured?

Except we are using this to find midfielders and we've found one, Hampton.
& for Jeffcrowe he is playing in the middle & has matched up against Dangerfield & Selwood at times.

Atkins looks more switched on today than last week & also had time in the middle.

So I think Douglas, Hampton & Atkins likely to be in the middle with Sloane & M Crouch come round 1.

For those criticising JJ, there is a huge performance gap with Dear. He is enthusiastic, but still very raw.

Our rucks could be a concern. Well beaten & given away silly fees.

Otten's composure & class showing again, but can we play him with Lever also in the side with Talia & Hartigan?

Hopefully some players blowout some rust in the 2nd half.

This whole 2nd to the ball & the contest type gameplan not really paying any dividends yet

Never has been. this must be some new 4th dimension time travel thing we're working on. Apparently William Shatner is helping out on Wednesdays.

Did that ACL play on their minds a bit?
The intensity was off in the first half but it did return a little in the final 10 minutes.
The lack of pressure otherwise just didn't make sense.
Hoping the Don lays down the law and reminds them the team will be finalised next week.

Based on today Douglas shouldn't be getting a game let alone the middle.

The young mids aren't going okay at all. Hampton is looking good, Milera should claim a spot, and everyone else is varying degrees of mediocre to awful.

(This is excluding midfielders who played last year like Crouch and Atkins who have been good)
The latter 2 are still young mids, and Mrouch has been leading what midfield we have out there.

We may well struggle this year who knows but I won't be basing it on today, or next week or even round 1 against the flag favourites. It'll be what we do when the likes of Brouch, Sloane, Seedsman etc are back in the side.

I'm not massively worried about repeating the game style from last year against them. If we do have plans to counter them, we ain't gonna show them to Geelong during a preseason game.
I feel like we've heard this before... you know if we never show them they'll keep winning, right?

Wigg at least has shown the ability to get the ball, but cripes he needs to either lower his eyes, or at least give us some evidence of that "elite kick"
He looks to read the ball well, if he had hit a few targets everyone would rave about him. When he realises he has more time, he will be a solid addition to the midfield.

Gallucci and Poholke absolutely are not ready for AFL. Wigg's disposal is horrendous and shouldn't be near the team. Greenwood doesn't look ready either. Knight seems to be suffering from his year out of AFL. Gore a tackling machine but has little other impact at the contest.

On top of that, Hampton, Menzel, Cameron and Milera are class players but just don't get enough of the football

Agree however Milera needs to get more involved

I like how you dismiss context and then invoke it.

Look if you want to hang your hat on poor goal kicking as a measure of the contest then you are easily pleased.
Just ambivalent to preseason result with a heap of kids
