Spot on. There are no examples of players not getting to their requested state via the PSD are there?

Simply put Dogga doesn’t answer the phone to any other clubs enquires and they won’t pick him

I doubt we use the PSD but it is a very real threat

Ryan O'Keefe I seem to recall wanted out of Sydney but no deal could be settled on so he stayed?

Tom Papley I recall was in a similar position?

Don't hold me to it but I think that was the case?

Both were/are Swans players but I'm not sure of their contract status at the time, someone on here will probably know?

Your answers suggest not.
My point is that 2 out of the 3 clubs above us aren’t a danger in the PSD.
I agree Froggy. Some of the earlier posts in the thread were talking about front loading contracts and speculating if Collingwood or Gold Coast could fit Dawson in their caps.

If he has stated he wants to live in Adelaide he is not much use to a team in Queensland or Victoria. They won't select him. If you look at Jack Martin going to Carlton they had to front end his contract to get him past other Vic clubs. Everyone remembers Carlton selecting Nick Stevens in the PSD when he wanted to go to Collingwood.

There is no way another club selects Dawson in the PSD. But it's in the interests of both clubs, but Sydney in particular, to ensure he doesn't end up there.

A deal will get done and Sydney will get 'unders' as Dawson is uncontracted, the threat of the PSD is there, and he's already moved to SA.

Pretty sure that both those guys were contracted. Papley certainly.

It doesn’t, but I’ve got no idea who those other players are. So it’s easier to add the 2 SA based players.
Well that's one of the dumbest arguments ever posted on BF. "I haven't seen them, so lets grab the local kids (even if they are inferior)".

We should be aiming to get the best talent available, not just the best SA talent, or the best talent that Pick4To6 has heard of.

The. Best. Talent. Available.

If the best talent available at pick 4 happens to be from outside SA, then so be it. If they're from SA, then that's just a bonus.

I agree with this but Callaghan would want to interview really, really, really well if he's the one. :)

Yes so how can a Vic team with a PSD pick above us expect him to go to Victoria and live in the current environment?
I’m suggesting picking him up via PSD is a realistic option if the clubs can’t agree.
It's impossible to imagine any conversation that could convince Dawson to agree to North, GC or Collingwood. He simply has to remind them that leaving Sydney was all about heading home as he is looking at establishing his adult life around family and friends.
There's no chance another club forces him to them even if they can.

Be reasonable with Sydney but equally, don't be afraid of the PSD. It's part of the general draft system and allowed within the rules. It's actually a mechanism to assist low ladder clubs against being mauled by stronger clubs.

This trade is entirely in Sydney's hands. We'll make an offer and they'll take it or leave it. Tough for sure. But that's business sometimes...

It's not impossible at all, that's a ludicrous statement.

Back then the definitive CC play was this:
  • win a contested ball on the wing,
  • light the afterburners and easily pull away from his chasing opponent,
  • enter the F50 and have a "what now?" moment - pass to a teammate, or kick for goal?
  • if he kicked for goal he would miss and score a behind,
  • if he tried to pass he would hit his teammate's opponent on the tit - 10m from his intended target
  • turnover

  • 29.25 for the year
  • fewer than three clangers per game average
  • 8th in the league in I50 tackles
I think you're highlighting a few frustrating moments rather than his season as a whole

Let’s remember, we are the buyer, not the seller. Pick 23 may work for us, but it doesn’t always work for Sydney.

They may have far less interest in pick 23.

Pick 12 also allows us to grab Matthew Roberts or Arlo Draper and retain pick 23.

basically pick 4 for Dawson and Roberts with 23 on Draper.
How would Draper be there at 23?

I'll throw it back, why isn't it possible ??

Those clubs have ages to convince him after trade period.
I say why it's impossible within my original post. Perhaps you might like to read it again. You're saying it's ludicrous so it's actually up to you to state why I'm so wrong. Convince me and show me where this is wrong. You made the call on my post. I think you should back that call up now.
Still staying with my post...

Nothing is impossible, North in particular could find the money, Collingwood are very good at finding other ways should they want to.

Its very unlikely, but we wouldn't want to take the risk.

We should have more money than GC & Collingwood, wouldn't need as much as the roos given they aren't in SA.
Who was the last player that did they want to be traded home for family and didn't go home?
He'll get here, but if we get him for 23 we have performed an enormous miracle.

Im not suggesting we got straight for the PSD, but I dont see any need to go over and above 23.
Because he's worth more than that and Sydney actually want to keep him ?? 23 for a kid who finished top 3 BnF at a far better club than ours who we've offered a reported 5 years at 650K.

You reckon 23 is enough ??

18 of those goals came in the first 10 rounds, and 5 more were from the Prelim Final. Excluding the PF, he kicked 6.13 from R11 to the end of the season. I stand by my assessment.
