Player Watch Jordan Dawson - Our New Captain!

By reports they want a top 10 pick and Sydney think Dawson's value is ahead of Cerra who is commanding pick 6 so yes they want 4 with nothing coming back to us
Dawson has had a good 2nd half of the year no doubt, but this time last year no-one here even knew who he was.
Would we have swapped Himmelberg for a virtually unknown pick 54 last year just after Elliot was looking Wayne Carey-like late in the season? I doubt it.
We'll get him somehow and I don't expect a Himmelburg fall from grace from him, but you never know. No need to sell the farm despite Sydney's increasingly desperate rants.

So it seems to be working - ABAB is keeping most of the Sydney board occupied. Whose cunning plan was it to send him over there and whoever it was, could you get young Brett Cummings to give ABAB a hand corralling our Sydney friends?

He's found they're lacking basic football knowledge. ;)

It's all making sense why one Sydney poster on this site thought we had 5 RS nominations this year.

maybe Longmire rated him as the 6th to 10th best player out of 44 in a majority of games? I’d certainly take that!

Fact is, he finished 9th, then 9th, then 3rd in their B&F while aged 22-24. There aren’t many blokes that do that in 3 consecutive years at that age while playing predominantly half back flank. That’s very impressive consistency for someone of his age, and certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed in AFL circles.

The leap from “solid contributor with a weapon of a left foot” to “potential All-Australian in the next couple of years” in 2021 was part natural progression, part move up to a wing to lace out targets inside 50 (this is where we clearly plan to play him) and part improvement of the Sydney side.

I think Best and Fairests are generally a far better measure of how a player is performing than things like Brownlows, media awards or AFLCA votes. If you aren’t a clearance king, you don’t poll well in those awards, end of story.
Start talking the big game with me when he backs it up again for a whole season to match what Sydney are claiming he's worth..

Im a johhny come lately re ladhams..i nearly fell off my chair when i read that port are demanding a 1st round pick for a guy they were telling to go explore his opportunities with. Hopefully no clubs take the bait and wait 1 year then get him for peanuts. A classic case of a bloke worth a back end 2nd rounder that is being overpriced.

If i was the dogs who really need a ruck i'd go ceglar for 1-2 years and come back next trade period

Maybe we should encourage him to hit the bluemour thread or the sack hinkley thread and do his best work there. He can be our 'proxy' there ;)
I can't post on the Carlton thread after the robust discussions around the Gibbs trade and telling them they need to look at the trade more closely and stating that LoB will be delisted in 2 years.

Swannies are suggesting they resign Dawson for 2 years which gets him to free agency.

In which case, he wouldn't get a 5 year deal from us, rather a 3. Maybe a 2nd round compo, end of 2nd round maybe?

So they're celebrating to keep a player that doesn't want to be there for 2 seasons to lose for pick 40. Or get pick 17 now for him.

And thats not even acknowledging that Dawson might just say to EABOD at the suggestion for only 2 years of contract certainty instead of 5?

Still about the Tippett deal? its almost a decade ago now i will be respectful as im on your board the landscape is vastly different to what it was back at the end of 2012.

its probably because still the most recent trade we compare to that involved a player. Only other one was a pick swap with carlton.

I feel his value lies around Pick 15-16 as an uncontracted 24 year old who we are paying at least 3 million over 5 years. If he was contracted, they’d have a leg to stand on to ask more (maybe pick 10-11). He’s not, so they don’t.

Rory Laird would have done similar, probably better.

If we said we want a top 10 pick for him when he's OOC and he requesed a trade to Carlton for family reasons while we were top 8, we'd have been laughed at by the media.

That is absolutely nothing to do with what’s being discussed, but thanks. I was responding to a post talking about Dawson’s lack of AFLCA votes and how a player’s position ties into those awards (the entire leaderboard is clearance players).

I certainly don’t think we would have been laughed at requesting that price for Laird, who was already an All Australian by age 24. There was never any chance he was leaving, so it was never considered.

Dawson, on the other hand, is not worth more than pick 15 as an uncontracted player in the open market. The offer of pick 17 plus maybe a small 2022 sweetener was as high as we should go, especially with the leverage of the PSD / SA home factor.

There seems to be a notion that because nobody on the Adelaide BigFooty board was talking about Dawson in 2020, that nobody knew who he was. People who watch a lot of footy certainly knew who he was, and knew how elite his kicking was. Just because there wasn’t threads on here about him doesn’t mean anything. This time last year it wasn’t considered a realistic chance that he would leave Sydney, so why bother discussing him? We don’t just have random threads on every good player in the league.

I have watched a lot of the Swans over the last few seasons, and he’s tracked very well since 2019 - just the sort of guy who very rarely plays a bad game, and very rarely makes a bad decision. His kicking is absolutely ridiculous in length and accuracy. Nice size. Nice mark. A lot to like, even prior to 2021.

Take him to the psd... we paid big time for the Tippett fiasco ... remember what they offered us for Tippett. Since they knocked back 17... just give them the 2nd rounder or psd.
