The word in bold should not be in your post!!!

I doubt there will be any JR lovers coming to his rescue after tonights performance. Does he think the "bounce pass" is an effective way to move the ball??

My mrs works at brumys in ivanhoe and ratts comes in most mornings, I have given her some instuctions to relay. So don't worry it shouldn't be long now...

Wait until Gilly gets online. He's JR's biggest fan here on BF.

What a great bump to invite more mindless ranting about Russell from cattle_prod and whinging after when we won.

I guess the footy department have no idea and need to be set straight from supporters behind a computer.

You can add yourself to that list if you rated his performance tonight, name a player that showed less that russell tonight (keeping in mind we are missing 5 players and there were 26 out there tonight)

You seem to be forgetting that posters on BigFooty have a much better understanding of the game than those on the match commitee. ;)

Fact is, we wouldn't have been down so much in the first quarter, if it wasn't for the ineptness of Jordan Russell ...

It never ceases to amaze me how some fans can be so 'precious' and 'fanatical' in their holier then thou worship of Russell ...

We cannot afford to play Russell against the Cats, and in fact, he shouldn't be in for rnd 1 against the Tigers either.

Realistically JR has to spend at least one month at Preston, and he has to question himself whether he has the mental toughness and committment to make it at league level.

BTW General you are in a minority, everyone around me today at the footy kept harping on about how poorly he played today ...
Dont gloss yourself and fall for the 'everything is okay' propaganda after today's win, the Hawks were missing, Croad, Hodge, Frankin etc

Honestly, does JR deserve a game against Geelong, considering the crap he dished out today ???

So I'm guessing you didn't watch tonights game then?

Enter: TheGeneral's rant about how Russell played well against Port Adelaide in the wet last year, and how he ran down Paul Medhurt vs Collingwood, and how he intercepted a hird pass to save us a game vs Essendon back in 07.

Yeah Yeah, we've heard it all before.

In case you havent realised; this is a public forum where SUPPORTERS of our club have the right to discuss sub par player performances and our opinions on all things Carlton - without coming under fire from a minority who think all is well in the land of Carlton.

See... it's inane comments like this that I don't understand?

Are you telling me, that I do not have the right to pass judgement on JR's game and have an opinion on his role in the club - because I'm not on the match committee ?

No your not allowed to because our match committee has never made a mistake and we have won the last 40 premierships

With our list where he is, he's going to have to play a lot better than he did today to keep his spot. Was shocking in the first and I barely troubled him after half time.

Problem with Russell is he seems to lack any consistency in his game - was better than decent last week, only to play as he did today.

That said, his form towards the end of 2008 was promising, but given he'll be competing with guys like Houlihan and Walker for a position on the HFF, he's gotta show a fair bit more than fluctuating promise to keep his spot in the side.

His disposal and decision making tonight was just plain shocking....having said that he does everything right up until he gets the ball  stole a few disposals tonight from his pressure on opponents.

Hawthorn's pressure was fantastic early which led to most of our turnovers, he definitely wasn't alone tonight. I don't think Stevens hit a target all night.

If this form continues in the season proper you would suspect he'd be sent to the ants for a stint. Only early boys...still only a glorified practise match

I posted in this thread last year and my thoughts were only firmed up further again tonight.

If I had to submit recruiting notes now on JR, they would read in short like this:

Strengths:
1) Plays tall for run with type
2) Strong and tough in the air
3) Solid tank

Weaknesses:
1) Weak attack on the ball at ground level
2) Disposal is below par for this level by hand and foot
3) Decision making is poor. Has a tendency to centre the ball no matter where he is on the field. Combines with ppor disposal, this creates a noticeable level of turnovers

Drafting range:

3rd round at best. Use as a wingman / HFF only

He did have a decent game against North, most of his distrubtion was pretty good tbh, couple of cracking passes as well.

Who did have a good game today, fev, judd, simpson, waite, cloke, armfield...gibbs was scratchy, murphy was average, betts was awol mostly, robinson got it but his distribution was mostly ordinary, personally I think JR was in pretty good company, it was one of those games and Hawthorn never stoped chasing hard.

The team will sort its self out, if JR can become more consistant he will play, otherwise he wont.

l would suggest you are the minority in your opinion of Russell, he will never make this level UNTIL his skills improve real fast as alot of younger players coming in will surpass him this year, he provides very little valve to the team and the patience of coaching staff has almost expired.
He has been given many opportunities with average performances, l suspect this will not happen this year unless alot of injuries occur.

Don't forget that lace out 20 metre pass against Port last year!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 year contract?
Must have drawn the contract up on mad Monday.

If only he can improve his disposals he would be handy. But he has been on the list for 4 years now that's a long time to not have improved much. And then we have Carrazzo as well with his shocking disposals. And Carrazzo has been on our list for what over 5 years now?.

I thought Jordan Russell really stood up tonight.

He played a fantastic game and really made some great decisions when he had the ball.

His first quarter especially was fantastic, he set up at least 3 goals while playing on the HFF.

I support him because of the often mindless and downright unpleasant garbage directed at him by supporters such as yourself.

I am sorry but the denigration of a player representing Carlton is not what I consider supporting to be.

If you are that upset and outraged by his continued selection in the side, then your problem is not with Russell - it is with Ratten and the match committee.

So if you have to vent your spleen, do so at them, because they are the ones who select the players.

On that subject - how can you possibly have any confidence in Ratten? Surely you don't want a coach at the helm who selects Russell in the side?

Alpha, surely it cannot to be fair to bag a player on another players thread after a game that he did not play in

I still thought russ was fine today, moving better this year. We'll see what they go for in team balance i suppose but i think he should stay.

I thought he did well today. He went in hard for the footy and is finding it alot more this year. He made some disposal errors but so did EVERYONE in the first quarter.

He keeps improving.

I saw JR do several good things today. Might have to get my eyesight checked and watch the game again.

Funny that ODN, I thought i was the only one...;)

Did you see Gibbs's absolutely terrible kick to know one in the last quarter? or the three backs who absolutely dominated by Roughy?

Or Gibbs, Murphy and Simpson having combined possessions of 4 in the 1st qtr?

Only Russels mistakes get picked up on BF... Go figure..
