Knight...on the Lions #7 pick I really want us to pick a player capable of playing from round 1. We need the quality developing in our team and obviously have alot of holes for a youngster to walk into the team if capable. So my question is, if Freeman is this type or is another Polec? for I see Scharenberg and Sheed as lock in round 1 players... I feel more then never the lions need a pick that can make a real impact very early in his career
With all the lost players I'm not surprised you'd like someone round 1 ready.
Freeman is different to Polec. He's more inside. But will take a year or two to establish himself.
Scharenberg I'm not expecting to see in round 1. He can play some year one but I'm not expecting him to become a regular so early.
Crouch and Sheed of those to be available are those I see as round 1 ready given what they've both achieved respectively.
Knightmare, where will Darcy Hourigan go and can you tell us a bit about him?
I expect Hourigan to go somewhere roughly in the pick 30-40 range to narrow it down.
He's a relatively short key forward. Strongly built. Carrying a little bit of weight and really goes all red in the face after a short run and clearly will need to build up that endurance.
That said in the u18s he's one of the dominant key forwards and someone with a presence and the ability to take a mark. Despite the "puppy fat" he's a good mover for his size. Quick on the lead and creates seperation.
Hey Knightmare, I was looking through some of the footage of Billings and thought he looked a bit like Wingard (or maybe that's what I wanted to see...) and was wondering whether you think the comparison is apt. In terms of foot skills, marking ability, ability to go forward or middle and whether you think Billings can have an impact as a more permanent midfielder?
Wingard is the more athletic of the two with Billings not quite so dynamic. But otherwise there are some similar traits with post possessing that real class.
I liken Billings more to a Dal Santo or Bartel.
Billings has the opportunity to develop into a full time midfielder but in those initial years I expect he'll start out more as a small marking forward who for short periods rotates onto the ball until he really establishes himself.
