Rumor going around that Brisbane are thinking of trading pick 2 to GWS for picks 5 and 7 and picking up Anisworth and Tarento would that be who you would pick at those picks?

GWS crazy to do that deal....they are very attached to a certain player if so.... McGrath?

Hey Knightmare

Kim Hagdorn (who is probably the leading Western Australian based AFL reporter) on 6PR radio this morning said that he's hearing that a first round bid may come for Waterman. This was somewhat surprising, I thought he was sounding a second rounder at best. He also mentioned that Waterman may reject father-son opportunity to "make his own name" at another club, and noted strong links to Essendon with Worsfold coaching.

He intimated that his sources were club-based or recruiters themselves. Have you heard anything like this and would you be surprised if a club bid for him in the first round?

I don't believe recruiters will put to much stock on the skills testing.

In game skills performance, especially under pressure will be more important to recruiters than what a kid does in a controlled setting. Interviews, medicals and athletic ability will all be more important than the skills test. And the athletic ability really needs an asterix next to it. A kid's max vert etc, will improve with professional training, developing their core strength and muscle development.

It's no good being an elite kick or handball in a training setting if you can't perform the same way during a game.

If I was a recruiter, I would be paying more attention to a kids form during the skills testing. Is a kid a clean kicker or handballer of the ball. Is their form good. If they have good form, then coaches can work on developing those skills further. If the form is not good, and needs to broken down and the kid retaught how to kick or handball, this is harder, as it is harder not to revert back to how you have down something your whole life.

Sounding quiet with Hartlett set to stay. Port don't have much wriggle room to do too much.

Probably a relatively quiet offseason with smaller rather than larger moves likely.

.

Cheers for the response as always, draft wise; I feel port are stuck in a difficult position. The top 8 seem like they are setting due to most if not all football seasons at any level being over; combine results will also have a slight effect of course. Leaving port at 9 in between- there are no clear slider/s at this point maybe marshall but from that 9+ point in the draft players are described as solid, injury prone and/or lacking consistency in their games such as Bolton, venables and marshall. Who do you think is a good fit and what is your top 10 at this stage with bids?

Also I've noticed oliver florent is not on the first page of this thread and I think they're older rankings but where do you rank him now and if possible strengths and weaknesses to his game? cheers

I wouldnt mind if bombers bid on him at pick 20 i like what he offers and think he could play AFL pretty early with us.

You lost me at saying Hackdorn is the leading WA AFL reported.

Mate, Haggers is an absolute potato who has no actual sources. He makes things up. He is in no way either the leading or even a remotely legitimate WA AFL reporter.

I guess I mean he is the most prominent, him or Duffers. They're the ones we hear from most. Not that there's a lot of them

Regardless of his credentials, it's the comments themselves which I was looking for verification of

In the next breath he admitted to not knowing the rules on the trading of 1st round draft picks for clubs over a two year period - then didn't completely rule out Fremantle drafting liam ryan with pick 3. He's got no idea..

Ok I didn't hear that bit. Doesn't help his cred

Which reporter is legitimate?

Duffield is pretty legit. But he really doesn't write articles in which he says "x could go here" because he knows there's not much basis to it. I've even talked to him in person about it and he still doesn't make the claims others do.

There's an interesting thread on the Freo board, a Q&A with Lachie Neale's manager. In which he basically says Haggers had no inside knowledge whatsoever, and literally made things up - never bothering to verify anything with him. He does it consistently using 'it is believed' or 'it is understood' as his escape clause. Oftimes you see articles pop up a day or two after the rumour is posted on here or some other random trade twitter account tweets it.

Basically this standard of AFL journalism:

Anyway apologies for clogging up this thread.

Good to see Hartlett calling out Mitch Cleary for his BS....Now maybe people will cease from referencing this clown, as any kind of reputable authority.
